  1. You know what’s better and more effective than hiring a Director of Leadership and Culture that has zero baseball experience? Hiring a quality GM with experience and a goddamn clue. A GM that doesn’t trade quality trade assets for scrubs like Soroka, Shuster, Lopez, Fletcher, Vargas, etc. (a.k.a. not Chris Getz).
  2. I still disagree that the shine wears off that quickly. But if it has, I hope they try to trade Crochet for Mayo again in the offseason. My guess is that the Orioles will still say no and the Sox will get back a headline prospect that is not rated as highly as Mayo.
  3. I agree that they went cheap. They were never going to trade their top prospects. I doubt they will even be a player for Crochet in the offseason due to the cost. Holliday has 184 plate appearances in the MLB. Mayo has 40. If these guys are already losing their shine already, the Sox may as well release Vargas and Fletcher.
  4. Are you trying to say Rogers is a better starter than Eflin? Uhhh, no. No sugarcoating needed. Also see @Bob Sacamano’s post above. They wanted two starters. One was a good pickup and one was horrible. But the way Crochet is pitching in the second half, the Orioles were wise to not give up a Coby Mayo for him.
  5. It’s pretty obvious that Elfin was their big starter move and they were never going to give up top prospects for a starter. And the way Crochet has pitched in the second half, the Orioles were wise not to give up any top prospects for him. Imagine if he was trying to throw 6 innings a start instead of only 2 to 4 like he has been? Rogers has been terrible for them and I think Getz likely messed up by not trying to deal Fedde to them for Norby instead of getting Vargas, even if he had to include some cash for Fedde’s small contract. All we can do is hope that Vargas hits next season.
  6. I don’t think we know that as a fact. There were teams still interested in Crochet after that news came out. And it’s not like Getz is going to let us know what the offers were. And who cares what Getz thinks is a good offer or not? He acquired bums like Fletcher and Vargas. His assessment on what is a good return in a trade means nothing.
  7. I agree that the Orioles trade for Rogers was a garbage move and they should’ve went after Fedde instead. But the Orioles did much better acquiring Elfin than Crochet. I don’t think it’s a sure bet that Crochet will pitch any better than Elfin in the postseason, once he already has 150 innings on the season. He is proving that now with a 6.46 ERA in the second half.
  8. I’m guessing not. Post All-Star break, Crochet has a 6.46 ERA. He’d be even worse if he was extended beyond 2 to 4 inning starts. Meanwhile, the Orioles spent way less to acquire Elfin and he’s been much better than Crochet in the second half. I doubt the Orioles want a mulligan on that trade. Cowser also had a terrible start in the majors for the Orioles last year and he is now an AL rookie of the year contender. As far as Eloy goes, the Orioles acquired him as a flier. It’s not like they gave up anything of substance for him to the Sox. The only team that “lost” by not selling Crochet high was the Sox.
  9. NIU just contacted us so we’ll see what happens.
  10. Thanks, he said his knee was fine for a week and even after the MRI confirmed his situation and he still wanted to play on it. He’s had knee sprains in the past but never a serious injury like this. No broken bones or tears until now, in years of playing Pop Warner and Bill George Youth football and his third year of high school football. We made him get the surgery so he can be healthy for his senior year.
  11. Thanks, his doctor said 6 to 8 months and that he’ll be ready for Senior year. BR didn’t have much depth on the OL to begin with and the backups are a big step down. They are going to be hurting in the run game and blocking for CJ Gray. I don’t have high hopes with two OL starters out already.
  12. No, BR is hurting. Unfortunately my son tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee. He didn’t even know and played an entire half on it. He just had surgery and will be out for the entire season. Will be healthy for senior year. Also, the starting LG, QwaMaine Spivery just sprained his knee so he is missing time. Without these two big boy starting guards on their OL, the QB CJ Gray doesn’t have time to throw, can’t scramble as much, and the running game is struggling. They are looking like the Bears on offense last year with their OL. BR was in both of the last two games until the very end, but I truly think these injuries to their OL were the difference. They win both games with a healthy OL.
  13. Remember when the entire premise of Getz’s offseason was acquiring vets to make the kids earn their promotions? Yeahhhhh…
  14. Too bad he isn’t also a “power lefty” like Gavin Sheets …
  15. Getz not signing free agents is probably a good thing. It would just be more money lit on fire.
  16. Getz’s entire offseason was a whiff outside of Fedde and DeJong. His other in-season trade for Fletcher was a whiff. But you have faith in Vargas, even though he now has a full season of at bats to his career in which he is is one of the worst hitters in recent memory? Crazy.
  17. He doesn’t work for him anymore. He can stop kissing ass anytime. 😩
  18. Fedde’s value to the Sox was only what he could be traded for. It’s just like having great closer on a terrible team. Fedde was a trade asset and Getz threw it away by trading him for a bust in Vargas. Getz’s best signing of his otherwise awful overall offseason turned into a guy that the Dodgers wanted to dump. He traded a 5.3 WAR for a -0.6 WAR. Simply embarrassing. The best Vargas ever did with the Dodgers was last Spring Training when he had a broken pinkie finger and the Dodgers literally told him not to swing the bat so he ended up drawing a bunch of walks facing bum pitchers in ST. If the Dodgers couldn’t fix Vargas’s bat, the Sox have no hope to.
  19. Exactly. I seriously won’t be surprised when Schumaker goes to any other team and the Sox then start up the Sizemore hype and say he was their managerial choice all along.
  20. I assume that means you are going to fire your vibe check in about a week, to follow along with why Getz acquired Vargas and what he did afterwards. RIP Mike Tosar.
