Getz signs bunch of veterans in the offseason. The rationale is so he can give the younger players time to marinate in the minors. The Sox have a record poor start to the season. Getz freaks out and calls up young prospects that struggle. He also signs more veterans and cuts several young players from the 40-man roster to make room for these veterans. Getz is a terrible GM.

Guess Trade Values of Sox Starters

Unlike the discussions on whether to trade Cease during the offseason or the trade deadline, do we all agree that there is probably zero reason to not trade Fedde by this year’s trade deadline? -

Chasing Records — 121 losses, modern MLB record

The calculations and metrics were apparently based on the pitcher and his location rather than the shortstop. That was the error.

Yep, not sure why anyone wants to see Reinsdorf escape the embarrassment of a historic losing record after sabotaging the initial rebuild with TLR and refusing to go all in on free agency (Machado/Harper) and then giving Getz the nepotism hire, saying they are a few moves away from being competitive, and then having Getz cut payroll by around $55 million. Let him wear it. He’s earned it.

It’s almost like Reinsdorf is telling Grifol and Schriffen what to say to deflect and detract against this awful season.

Playing a proven bad 32 year old vet over a 26 year old that is running out of time to prove himself in the majors. Meanwhile, he has called up numerous young pitchers whom one could argue weren’t ready. Getz is really terrible at this roster management stuff. Is there any rhyme or reason to his madness or is he just throwing darts at pictures of these players taped to the wall of his office?
-
He is. He might like his dogs more than people.

He’s pretty bad. Doesn’t walk (3), strikes out a bunch (29), and occasionally hits a random home run but not enough of them (3). It’s pretty amazing he continues to be employed.

Sox looking at building in South Loop

I think Schriffen is definitely playing up the third bullet to get Stone to talk, but Stone is an old curmudgeon and doesn’t want to be prompted to respond unless he’s good and ready to. ? -

It’s very strange. Stone talks up all of his partners on Twitter but seemingly hazes and trolls them during broadcasts. I know he has a dry sense of humor but he is pretty rough. He acts like he is annoyed by his partner most of the time. Maybe he thinks it’s a funny gimmick? But he has done the same thing with Hawk, Benetti, and now Schriffen. -

If only Benetti would have enrolled in those Victorian dining etiquette classes as Boyer suggested. He might still be here… -

Stone Pony decided to go as silent on the broadcast about the same time as he went silent on Twitter. -

Yes, as the new guy he has to be overly rah rah and cheerful, which comes across terribly when the team is having its worst start of all time. He was kind of screwed either way. -

Schriffen seems like too nice of a guy to be doing this. I think he’s just doing his evil lord’s bidding. -
Guess Trade Values of Sox Starters

I never jumped on anybody. I said that since Fedde has never had this type of success before in the majors, I don’t believe teams will value him as highly as guys like Giolito and Lynn last year who have had success in the past, even though they were having mediocre years. Draft status doesn’t mean much if a first round pick never has any success in the majors. Carson Fulmer was a former #8 overall pick and he became a DFA / waiver claim candidate thats bounced from team to team. I hope Fedde keeps it up and Getz is smart enough to trade him for the best offer available. But also keep in mind that everyone was calling Crochet an ace after 3 starts. Crochet’s numbers are still very good if you take a deeper look but it sure didn’t look like he was ever going to struggle. Fedde will likely have to keep this up until closer to the trade deadline. I just hope some team comes calling more quickly while he’s at his peak trade value. -

Good point, haha. I’ll retract my statement. It was the best draft in “recent history”. They may have filled three positions (QB, WR, and P) for the next decade and also added two players at their remaining positions of need to develop.
