  1. The Marlins offer is only $2 million guaranteed to Tim Anderson, and he gets to start at SS. Getz definitely jumped the gun on the defensive guys he wanted. Rosario is a ridiculously better signing than DeJong for only $1.5 million, even though Rosario’s glove is in question. DeJong has been so bad over the years that he should have only been given a minor league deal and had to perform in ST to earn his spot.
  2. JR is paying that $5 million dollar buyout as fast as he can.
  3. And what has changed? Getz acquired a bunch of unproven pitchers or pitchers that came from the dumpster because they were old, bad, injured, or all of the above.
  4. You’re going to have guaranteed back-to-back enjoyable seasons then.
  5. At least if you are going to dumpster dive, go after guys like Rosario that can bounce back. Not guys like DeJong and Lopez who simply are what they are at this point.
  6. And as down of a year that Rosario had last year, he was still better than DeJong. Yet Getz gave DeJong more money.
  7. A 27 year old 1B/DH with a career OPS of .690 has no trade value, and even less to a team like the Orioles that has much better prospects that can play all over. And just because our dumb manager throws him in the outfield doesn’t mean he can play there.
  8. Rosario was a 4 win player in 2022 with the Guardians. Nicky Lopez and Paul DeJong must feel like they hit the Leury jackpot getting paid more than Rosario.
  9. “Publicly Funded Field.” Make the address 1 Billion Boulevard.
  10. Back to the Pirates. Getz is weak.
  11. In his press conference announcing the Getz promotion, JR said that the Sox could win in 2024 with a few tweaks to the roster, and they didn’t need to waste a year or more rebuilding. Meanwhile, every acquisition this offseason has been for a guy fished out of the dumpster.
  12. Exactly. If Getz can’t cut a guy like Scholtens loose for a 24 year old lefty outfielder with good minor league numbers, he’s doing the GM thing wrong.
  13. Moustakas has never played any position other than 3B, 1B, and 2B. I have faith that Pedro won’t play him in the outfield like he has with Sheets.
  14. Ultimately, it probably means nothing in the grand scheme of things but Moustakas can backup 3B and 1B and it ideally means Sheets is not on the opening day roster so Grifail won’t have the opportunity to play him in the outfield.
  15. That ship has sailed. Even with the injuries to their rotation, I think it’s pretty obvious that Elias isn’t giving up either of those guys for Cease.
  16. Who says the Sox can’t sign Boras clients?!? ?
  17. Sucks that he had a chance to play with his brother in Seattle but now is the chance for the Sox to grab him. They should’ve grabbed him the first time he was cut by the Pirates. For a team that has trouble finding lefty corner outfielders, the Sox should be jumping at any that become available and hope one of them pans out (DeLoach, Smith-Njigba, etc.).
  18. Meanwhile, Smith-Njigba is a 24 year old lefty corner outfielder with good minor league numbers. Worth a shot. Sheets had his chances and has proven himself to be a DH that can’t hit.
  19. Bingo. With Moustakas on board, this is a no-brainer move. If they want to keep Sheets in AAA, cut someone else to make room for Smith-Njigba.
  20. Eh, maybe, but I doubt Grichuk is more concerned with going to a competitor rather than getting more money. Pillar gets $3 million if he makes the roster. I wouldn’t be surprised if Grichuk is a White Sox if they offered him a million more than Arizona and guaranteed him $3 million.
  21. Supposedly, Hahn wanted to trade Tim Anderson to the Marlins for Jake Eder but Kenny overrode him and sent Burger instead. I have no idea if this is true but this is the rumor as I remember it. The Marlins must be offering Anderson a cheap one year “prove it” deal so he can try to have a good season and hit free agency again.
  22. Sox will have another shot at this guy. “Mariners designated OF Canaan Smith-Njigba for assignment to claim RHP Levi Stoudt off waivers from the Reds.”
  23. Yikes, this makes the Pillar signing look awful. Basically a 1-year, $2 million dollar deal for a guy who can play all three outfield spots and had a .779 OPS last year.
