  1. Did Getz just turn into a good GM with these two trades?
  2. Does anyone think the Mariners were trying for a Cease and Santos package deal but they just settled on dealing Santos separately?
  3. Good rationalization by Getz. You don’t need a good closer (and one with questionable arm health) for a team like this one that is going to lose a lot of games.
  4. Best trade of Getz’s career. He peddled one year of success (and possibly an injured arm) for a nice return. We might actually have a lefty RF power bat. His strikeout rate isn’t very pretty though.
  5. They just signed Dinelson Lamet to a minor league contract. I’m sure they will also bring back Kershaw.
  6. If you look at the back of their baseball cards, it’s difficult to see any specific reason they were signed. ?
  7. The team needs veteran leaders that are also good baseball players, not a bunch of veteran leaders that are too old, can’t hit, and mostly flat out suck like the ones Getz acquired.
  8. .729 OPS last year. Assuming he is going to be a major leaguer is a big assumption.
  9. I didn’t include Fedde because he is on a two year deal and may actually return a prospect if he has a good first half or entire 2024. The rest of the acquisitions this offseason are one year deals for trash that won’t return anything in a trade. So yeah, more of the same offseason transactions, just like Kenny and Hahn. Numerous crappy signings that add up to a decent amount of money, rather than signing one or two good players that are actually difference makers with positive WAR.
  10. If Pillar gets $3 million, Duvall is likely out of the Sox price range (probably closer to $8 million).
  11. Getz most recently said he was still looking to add a right fielder. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is about it, outside of cheap minor league pickups and non roster invitees (mostly relievers).
  12. Exactly. It will take years for the Sox to field a good team. Jerry was flat out lying about contending immediately. Smart fans like yourself know better.
  13. Ironically, didn’t Madrigal actually improve? He was pretty mediocre at 2B for the Sox and somehow he played well defensively at 3B for the Cubs last year, even with his awkward mechanics and weak armed throws to 1B.
  14. I know Gallo sucks but how does Pillar get $3 million guaranteed if he makes the roster and Gallo only gets $5 million? Pretty sure I’d rather have him than Pillar for $2 million more. Sure seems like Getz overpaid here.
  15. Who? It’s pretty obvious the Sox aren’t looking to spend any more than $3 to $5 million on any one player. I have no doubt Pillar is their main plan for RF on opening day. You may as well guarantee him the $3 million.
  16. Yes, it’s the same pipe dream as it is every year. I could actually see AV and Benintendi improving but we all know Moncada and Eloy will be injured at some point in the season, if not the majority of it.
  17. This makes me wonder. If the Sox acquired MLB ready talent in a Cease trade, like a RF and/or 2B, would they even be playing in the majors this year or would the Sox have them in Charlotte? It sure seems like Getz wants to play these crappy no bat / all glove veterans. He must dream about a lineup of 9 David Eckstein clones just like Jerry.
  18. Kevin Pillar has agreed to a minor league deal with the White Sox that will pay him $3 million if he makes the team, according to MLBTR’s Steve Adams. Pillar is probably being assured of a roster spot here, but the White Sox will be able to wait until mid or late March to decide who gets bumped for him. Ideally, the White Sox would have signed someone better to serve as a caretaker in right, but at least Pillar will be content with a platoon role if Oscar Colás develops. If Colás fails to progress, Pillar would be a fourth major offensive liability to go along with Paul DeJong, Nicky Lopez and Martín Maldonado in the bottom half of the team’s lineup.
  19. He will continue to hit bombs against the Sox.
  20. Oh, I know Hahn was even worse with that offseason in which he essentially burned $40 million, but Getz hasn’t been much better. Here’s some of his one year signings that I don’t see how they even move the dial at all for the Sox. That’s $20.5 million total on a bunch of trash for the same team that was afraid to pay Bryce Harper $25 million a year. Predictions on the combined WAR from these guys? John Brebbia $5.5 million Nicky Lopez $4.3 million Martin Maldonado $4.25 million Kevin Pillar $3 million Paul DeJong $1.75 million Chris Flexen $1.75 million
