  1. Chapman was obviously just one example. I’m sure there were other relievers the Sox could have signed starting in early January before the season started for a matter of a few million to attempt to help try to cover for the loss of Hendriks. Obviously, they wouldn’t have been able to replace Hendriks’ production, but a team trying to truly contend would have more than likely made a move. The Sox? Not so much.
  2. When did this happen? Link? I seem to remember that Colas pretty much got the RF shot because he was hot in the minors and then in Spring Training. But mainly because Hahn neglected to acquire a legit starting caliber RF for about the tenth year in a row.
  3. Wow, dude needs to stop boozing late at night while playing his Xbox. Meanwhile, these same educated fans are ripping every Cease trade offer that is discussed here over on their board.
  4. Sox fans are freaking out? I figured most can read the tea leaves here. Cease pretty much already told the story, as have many other top Sox players in the past nearing free agency. It’s just a matter of when he is traded, not if he will be.
  5. Wow, I don’t think I’ve seen a pitcher with lower strikeout numbers. Guy is a tee ball stand.
  6. Exactly, the Sox had no idea when Hendriks would return, and he actually came back faster than expected, but the Sox wouldn’t add $3.75 million in payroll to replace their Allstar closer in a season that they were supposed to compete for the division? Just another example that shows that the Sox were never truly serious about winning, much like the bogus interest in Machado and Harper and the claims that “the money would be spent.”
  7. Why wait 2 years? May as well trade him with more than 2 years of control. Luis Robert may sell some tickets for Reinsdorf over the next two seasons but he isn’t leading the Sox to the playoffs.
  8. With how cheap Jerry is and how far away the Sox are from competing, I doubt they want any players whose service time has already started, however minimal. If the Sox were to take Hall back in a trade, I’m sure they would immediately try to convert him back to a starter in the minors but it looks like the Orioles made him a reliever because he was too walky in the first place.
  9. That’s a bit of an excuse. Hendriks publicly announced his cancer diagnosis on January 8, 2023, well before the season started. Knowing they lost their Allstar closer, who did they bring in to replace him? It definitely didn’t have to be as bad as the stat @Lip Man 1 posted. The Royals signed Aroldis Chapman on January 27, 2023 for a paltry $3.75 million. Think he wouldn’t have chose to sign on as the White Sox closer over going to the Royals for the same money?
  10. But it is an absolute no brainer to clean house right now, when there are good coaching options available, and before a key draft in which you can take the best QB available. I don’t think anyone but Poles thinks it’s a good idea to retain Eberflus considering these factors. His love for Eberflus is going to blow up this rebuild, TLR style.
  11. How many good OC candidates are still going to choose that type of instability versus starting fresh with a new head coach that isn’t a lame duck? Stability for them in their role, but then having to work with an entirely new coaching staff the very next year? It’s still a crappy setup.
  12. All Bears fans should remember this moment. If Poles’ entire rebuild fails as miserably as the White Sox did, this will likely be the day that started the downfall. Poles retaining Eberflus could be similar to Jerry hiring TLR, right when both teams were on the cusp of being good.
  13. What kind of OC worth a damn is going to sign on with a lame duck coach that has only one more season to prove himself? They would have to clean house if Eberflus fails again next year.
  14. The Bears always choose the dumbest possible path.
  15. I’d rather have Harbaugh make the decisions than Poles, who seemingly is afraid to pick a QB, if DBB’s sources are to be believed.
  16. I think most of the Cubs acquisitions will come from more free agent signings. They definitely have more money to spend.
  17. Yeah, Heyman said he thinks the new Rangers TV deal will bring in a one time cash payment of $100 million, allowing them to bring back Montgomery. I don’t think Hoyer wants to trade any of his prospects, much less the highly ranked ones. I think he is cautiously building for next season and beyond.
  18. I hope so. Montgomery back to the Rangers and Snell to any team but the Yankees and we may finally see this thing come to a resolution.
  19. I read through the DBB Twitter and it totally sounds like the Bears are going to F this up royally, if this guy truly does have sources. Sounds like they will keep Eberloser, replace Getsy, try to trade down the #1 pick, still draft a rookie QB with whatever pick in the top 10 that is returned to them in the trade, keep Fields, and let him compete with the rookie QB in training camp. Simply horrifyingly awful. If you check the DBB Twitter, he is now defending these moves to all the Bears fans that are saying it is the worst possible route to take. This strategy totally reeks of a GM who has no confidence in his own assessment of players and is desperately afraid to make the wrong decision. If Poles truly does this, he’s a coward and the wrong man for the job. I know it won’t happen but I will hold out hope that Harbaugh will be brought in to replace both Poles and Eberloser before this shitshow of decision-making actually happens.
  20. Awful. This has to be the worst possible option of all. Why can’t the Bears do anything correctly? Replace your coaching staff (Eberloser included), hire a new staff, let them have a say in what QB they want in the draft, and allow them to develop your new QB from day one. Trade Fields for the best pick(s) that you can get for him. What is so difficult about this? Why do the Bears continue to allow lame duck coaches to impact their franchise-changing decisions and infect their QB picks?
  21. Probably the case. Man, the Yankees signing Snell would really screw up everything. Getz would lose his leverage with Baltimore and also a suitor in NY that has a GM with the balls to make a deal happen.
  22. Weird. I’d rather add Cease as a starter at $8 million for 2024 and sign some flier relievers on minor league deals. I think that would be more impactful than wasting your last $10 million on free agent relievers. That would be the Hahn strategy.
  23. I still love love how the Orioles fans insisted that their younger prospects like Basallo (19) and Coby Mayo (just turned 22) were untouchable but at the same time didn’t understand why a 25.5 year old Joey Ortiz may have lost some value and wouldn’t be the headliner in a Cease trade. Take our old “prospects”, please! ?
