  1. If the Sox don’t acquire a RF in the Cease trade, don’t be surprised to see the fluff pieces by Merkin early in Spring Training about how Colas is in the best shape of his life and working on his swing with the new coaches. Essentially selling Colas to Sox fans as their starting RF again.
  2. You pretty much described Maldonado’s bat perfectly. Now add the declining defense and it’s a perfect summary.
  3. I know it isn’t a large sum of money in today’s game but I don’t see the Sox spending that much for a one year outfielder in what will be a losing year. Getz would probably rather sign three relievers with that money as potential flip candidates at the deadline. I do agree with your second point that they are hoping the OF will come from the Cease trade.
  4. But they like to spread out smaller amounts of money on a variety of crap, not spend up to $10 million on one productive player.
  5. Nick Madrigal isn’t the answer to any question.
  6. There’s no way Getz is spending $8 to $10 million on an outfielder for this team. It will be some AAAA guy or a discarded and cheap OF from another team.
  7. The Sox brought back Mark Payton in November on a minor league deal after he spent last year in Japanese ball.
  8. Madrigal has almost zero trade value and we already have our own version of him in Little Nicky. Why would you want two of the same terrible player?
  9. I legitimately thought he was trolling with that post. Is there actually a dimension in the multiverse where his post is for real?
  10. Wow, back when posters actually had faith and hope that Jerry would approve Hahn signing a big time free agent. Cringey posts in there, considering hindsight.
  11. Yeah, it’s kind of like Jerry hiring GMs and managers. You just have to hope he kicks into picking a good front office.
  12. Nope. Fields already had ALL the weapons he needed this year in Moore, Mooney, and Kmet, along with three good RBs and a kicker who drained everything and received a 4-year, $16 million extension because of it. The OL also improved over the course of the season. Additionally, the defense improved GREATLY in the past few games and Fields still blew close games. These two Score tools have been worshipping Fields for the past two years so they don’t have enough pride and common sense to get off that train at this point. They are both blowhards. I seem to remember in the off-season that everyone was in agreement that this was supposed to finally be the season for Fields to prove himself, and he didn’t. Look at the stats. He’s basically the same guy he was last year. A slightly above average QB. The Bears need to aspire for more from the QB position.
  13. Okay, go ahead and see at how over-the-hill Maldonado and Hill did individually last year. They were a pile of suck. If you think players improve in their mid-30’s, more power to ya. @WestEddy got so clowned on his Getz opinions in the other thread that he had to revert to this Joaquin Phoenix Joker character. Enjoy, WestEddy. I’ll get my popcorn ready. https://www.soxtalk.com/forums/topic/116647-white-sox-getz-have-more-work-to-do-before-spring-training-opens/
  14. I’m not sure a team that had a directive to cut payroll is going to want to deal prospects for Cease at this point.
  15. When were Maldonado and DeJong ever stud players? And if you think guys like Moncada and Eloy, who already got their millions paid out, are going to be influenced by these veterans/coaches, I think you are going to be disappointed. Even if they did somehow influence Moncada and Eloy, neither guy can stay healthy enough to make an impact in a season. Both will likely be gone before it even matters, and they probably won’t even remember their coach’s name like Luis Robert couldn’t remember Montoya.
  16. For a non-contender like the Sox, agreed. Although he would have been a great flip candidate. But Getz already wasted enough money on a bunch of scrubs to pay a guy like Chapman.
  17. Yay, our GM signed a crappy reliever! Personally, I wish Getz would have taken the week off instead. Unfortunately, I doubt any other GM would’ve signed the awful Tim Hill before Getz clocked back into work when the White Sox offices reopen. You must be easily impressed if you like seeing your GM sign two washed-up bums with a combined age of 71 and still try to sell them as good moves. Woof…
  18. Yep, it makes zero sense. Even when everyone knows the Sox are going to be terrible next season regardless of what Jerry and Getz say publicly, instead of giving guys like Sosa and Lee a chance, they acquire bums like Nicky Lopez and Stassi/Maldonado.
  19. Unfortunately, the Bears fucked up their chances at Williams and MHJ by winning meaningless games. That would have been a wet dream draft. Williams / Odunze This is the way.
  20. The way Joe Flacco is playing at age 38 (turning 39 in less than a month) is more than enough reason that Bears fans should not accept Fields’ performance and why the Bears should be picking a new QB with #1. Fields has had more than enough time to figure it out. He doesn’t have the awareness in the pocket, the ability to read his receivers, or an accurate enough arm. I hope we can get a 2nd round pick for him from the Falcons.
  21. Agreed. I want to see an entirely new coaching staff brought in before the draft so they get a say in which QB they want. And would it be crazy to think that the Falcons would give up a 2nd round pick for Fields?
  22. Has a team with the #1 overall pick ever traded down to take a QB, rather than take the best option at #1?
  23. Do we have a “paper bag with holes cut out of it” emoji?
