True. Further proof that half the starting lineup has no business being starters on an MLB ball club.

After seeing the playing time Sheets has received over the past couple seasons and where he has played, while being awful with both the bat and the glove, I don’t think we can assume the Sox will make the no brainer decision here. The Sox think he’s good because he’s a lefty and is perceived to have power.

Other teams must envy us…

It will be amazing if both Sheets and Moustakas make the opening day roster, which would indicate that the Sox are indeed this stupid and view him as a RF primarily. Crazy considering Getz is supposed to be Mr. Defense, that he would allow this. I know it’s just Spring Training but why play Sheets in RF if you aren’t going to be willing to do the same during the regular season?

White Sox agree to minor league deal with Brad Keller

Agreed, it does show how truly awful that Kenny and Hahn were at adding depth, even mediocre backup pitchers. They never had any. Basically, the opening day pitching staff had to stay healthy all season or else the Sox were screwed. And it makes no sense either considering all of these guys can be had for a minor league deal or a couple million. -

The irony is how similar the level of success is between the two teams. It shouldn’t be a surprise that JR would want to imitate a team that had a brief window of success, won one World Series, and went back to being perennially bad. The Sox were already the Royals, a decade earlier.

Branch Rickey… viagra to JR’s ears. -
Typical Jim Thome fluff. They all have a great swing and can be productive, etc.

“The 2024 White Sox — Losing with Respect.” -
No one could believe it because it makes zero sense. If you want to prototype a team, there are much better examples to follow on both sides of the spending spectrum with the Rays and Dodgers. But no, the Sox choose to copy one of the worst teams in baseball. There can’t be a dumber franchise in all of sports.

That’s amazing and embarrassing all at once. The Sox are the only team that would use a perennial loser like the Royals as the prototype for their big front office change and rebuild. The “bad” as Moustakas’s position is absolutely hilarious.

It’s definitely the worst I have ever seen. It think it has the chance to be historically bad. -

Worst 4-5-6 of all time?

Sure, they can… but they won’t. Have you not been paying attention to JR and the Sox in free agency over the past 20+ years?

Not a very well thought out post, huh? I bet you are feeling it right now… you literally had no clue how bad you were trolling yourself as you hit that post button. Man, I bet it burns… -
We’ve seen this song and dance before. Good enough to just make or miss the playoffs. Not good enough that it means a damn either way. ?

Half the roster is already cooked, but they still have to field a team. ?

I think it’s a combination of “Poles got his guy”, he didn’t want to potentially lose out on Bates to other interested teams, and he also thinks Bates can be an above average center on a cheap contract, rather than overspending to bring in a legitimate starting center. We will have to wait to find out if Poles was correct in his assessment. I don’t really think he was duped by the Bills. The facts were out there — Bates started for the Bills two seasons ago but he was on the bench last season. So either Poles sees something in Bates that the Bills didn’t, or Poles is wrong and Bates is just a backup quality OL. A fifth rounder is not a massive loss. Many fifth round picks end up being cut anyways. Now Poles’ trade of the first pick in the second round for a lazy bum WR will forever be his legacy if he fails to get the job done with the Bears.
