TJ surgery set for Friday. Getz couldn’t dare drop this talented 29 year old pitcher with a 5+ ERA in 2023 last week to make room for a waiver claim of 24-year old OF prospect Canaan Smith-Njigba. ?

Sox trade Matthew Thompson to Cubs for old friend Bailey Horn
WhiteSox2023 replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I love how you think it’s an outrageous thought that the Sox could ever make a bad trade. Their free agent signings are bad enough before you even begin discussing their poor trades. -
Yes, give him even more guaranteed cushion to be lazy and unmotivated. I think we have already learned that this idea didn’t work for either Moncada or Eloy the first time around.

Sox A ball player engaged to a celebrity of sorts…

Do you really think Billy Seidl has more money than this girl? -
There seems to be different listings on Fletcher’s height. His college page and FanGraphs both have him at 5’9”. I doubt he got shorter since college but maybe this listing was inaccurate to begin with. This would be a nice question for a reporter to ask him but Sox media guys are too busy worshipping Getz and Grifol. https://arkansasrazorbacks.com/roster/dominic-fletcher/ https://www.fangraphs.com/players/dominic-fletcher/26149/stats?position=OF MLB.com has him listed at 5’6” and 195. 195 pounds would be pretty damn stout for 5’6” unless he was all muscle, so I tend to believe that he’s 5’9”. Just for a comparison, Jose Altuve is listed at 5’6”, 166 pounds at MLB.com.

Sox trade Cristian Mena to Arizona for OF Dominic Fletcher
WhiteSox2023 replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If Fletcher ends up being a platoon outfielder with a .764 OPS, it doesn’t look like a very good trade. -
Sox trade Cristian Mena to Arizona for OF Dominic Fletcher

If Fletcher was in his early 20’s rather than 26, this trade really would’ve made more sense. -
Sox trade Cristian Mena to Arizona for OF Dominic Fletcher
WhiteSox2023 replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I thought this trade was great when I heard Mena was topping off at 92. If he can maintain 94-96, man, I don’t know about this one. Getz’s obsession with grindy players like him may be his undoing. -
Sox trade Cristian Mena to Arizona for OF Dominic Fletcher

The worst case scenario about this trade looks to be coming true. Mena has apparently found his lost velocity this spring with the Diamondbacks. “Prospect Cristian Mena’s velocity popping at Diamondbacks' camp“ -
Isn’t it also possible that these guys are just not good enough / injury-prone players / busts that weren’t going to make it regardless? I sure see a lot of other team’s top prospects get called up at much younger ages and tear it up.

No arguments here.

Sorry, I should have compared him to Lopez. I’d rather have Rosario at 2B. DeJong was cheap enough that he doesn’t really matter, although he’s so bad he should have been a minor league signing with a ST invite. Either way, tough to see how these guys will score any runs.
-
I wouldn’t really consider having a lot of bad arms in your rotation and bullpen that no one else wanted to be depth. And I don’t know if Rosario would be good here, but if you are going to go after cheap fliers that you could potentially flip for something at the deadline, he was a much better option than Paul DeJong. Rosario was a 4 win player in 2022 with the Guardians. If you are excited about the moves Getz made this offseason, thats fine. But it looks like classic dumpster diving to most other Sox fans, in line with what Hahn did when he wasn’t overpaying relievers.

Sox looking at building in South Loop

A no hitter. This team sucks.
-
Meanwhile, we paid a left fielder $75 million and his bat turned into utility player quality in the first year, but with the added benefit of playing a poor left field as well.
-
Hitless through 6 innings? Sounds about right.
-
And because Bellinger has always been a better player than Benintendi. That isn’t hindsight.
-
I’ll take this contract for Bellinger over Benintendi’s $75 million dollar contract all day long.

For anyone who has seen this. You can’t get much more honest or epic than this. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/mantle-piece/

There have been a multitude of decisions that prove Grifol is a clueless manager, not just his decision to play Sheets in RF. If his failed promises and outright lies aren’t bad enough for you, it’s obvious that we aren’t going to agree on this topic. How you give a terrible owner, a terrible manager, and a terrible team the benefit of the doubt the majority of the time is amazing to me. JR hires people that fall in line. This has been obvious for years. We have a new GM that was gifted the job and did not do enough for player development in his previous role to deserve the promotion. We have a total of two good positional prospects. Our GM wasted millions on dumpster diving for ex-Royals (another losing ball club) and other garbage players this offseason that won’t move the dial. Why does anyone associated with the Sox right now deserve the benefit of any doubt?
-
Pirates now somehow have two deals bigger than Benintendi’s
WhiteSox2023 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Exactly. Let me know when JR actually approves and locks up a $100+ million dollar contract. Yawn…
