  1. This really makes me wonder what the offers were for Cease at last year’s trade deadline.
  2. Maybe, but we all know that Getz will have to trade Cease eventually. Risking holding onto Cease until the deadline is one thing, but no argument can be made now that trading him next offseason would be more advantageous. We have now almost been through this offseason and the offers weren’t there. There is no way Cease is still a member of the Sox after this season’s trade deadline.
  3. True, he basically swapped similar picks. That makes more sense then, since Elias is a draft hoarder.
  4. I don’t see a path to a trade unless the Mariners interest was serious. Seems like none of these teams (Orioles, Yankees, etc.) want to give up their top prospects for a starter.
  5. Probably more surprising that Elias gave up the pick moreso than the two players.
  6. I know you never hope for injuries, but I bet Getz will be receiving daily reports on every teams’ starting pitching injuries from Spring Training until the trade deadline.
  7. It’s a no-brainer for what they gave up, but they will have to go through the same search next offseason as well, via free agency or trade.
  8. The benefit of hindsight is strong with that one.
  9. It doesn’t completely satisfy the Orioles needs at all. The Orioles need starting pitching for more than just one year, which is what Burnes will be for them. Their competitive window is not one season.
  10. But it’s not a good one to one comparison with Cease having two years of control. What does 1.5 times to double this package in value look like?
  11. Would you have taken this return for Cease? I wouldn’t, and I’m glad Getz didn’t either.
  12. I guess we have to wait for the full trade to be reported, but so far this looks light for even only one year of Burnes, which has nothing to do with Cease.
  13. They could, because they sure have the prospects to do so, but their rotation is likely filled out now. I doubt they will still go after Cease now. This trade aligns perfectly with Elias not wanting to give up his premium prospects. He basically gave up two replaceable guys that made sense to move because they don’t have room for them.
  14. Once their fearless leader went to the dark side, they gave up.
  15. Agreed, Orioles fans should be very happy. This is a better deal for them than what Cease would have cost. These are two of the guys they wanted to dump most.
  16. This could be the case, but the comparison between Cease and Burnes was never perfect. Burnes is better but he only has one year of control left.
  17. Uggghhh. This could get ugly. The rumors were that the Brewers more recently weren’t going to trade Burnes and were going to try to compete this year so I assume they received a good offer they couldn’t refuse.
  18. I’ll have to take my kids to Superdawg. The char-broiled polish looks pretty good. I always bought Hebrew National hot dogs but they aren’t into them as much anymore and prefer restaurant dogs. What is your recommendation on store-bought hot dogs? The best uncooked Italian sausage I’ve had is the fresh garlic sausage from the Original Nottoli’s on Belmont, not too far from Harlem. Amazing sausage to grill if you love garlic.
  19. Are you referring to the $1.50 foot long special with a drink at the CostCo food court? I’ll have to try it. They say it’s all beef. The 18” cheese or pepperoni pizzas for $9.95 each are pretty good for kids parties.
  20. You nailed it. Bernstein loves to get political. My favorite part of the segment was when Bernstein actually made the argument that some Chicagoans aren’t sports fans at all so they don’t care about Sox fans getting a new stadium and only want to know what this new ballpark will add to the city outside of sports. Parkins had to remind Bernstein that they are a sports radio show so sports is the backdrop for all of their discussions. I’m actually curious how much these guys get paid. I understand Bernstein due to his notoriety from the Boers era (even though he’s much worse without Terry) and Holmes because he seems to have multiple gigs including TV. But I wouldn’t be surprised if a guy like Spiegel was only pulling in a 5 digit salary.
  21. That makes sense because it’s his hometown and he went to high school there, but he doesn’t get the choice. Sucks that he’s only one pick away from where he wants to go but it is what it is.
  22. I guess I looked at his contract and thought he would be an expensive acquisition for an interested team — half the remaining $8 million of his salary along with his $4 million dollar buyout. So he would cost around $8 million but the Sox could’ve picked up some of the money if any team was offering anything for Clevinger.
  23. Sounds like the same BS as last year. Remember how he was going to mold last year’s team into a winner and then after the season when he was a proven loser, he backtracked and said he didn’t like the team? Now he’s saying he loves the team again, that Getz put together. Guy is full of it.
