  1. It’s a pretty nice signing in this climate for starting pitching. Bieber is coming back from TJ surgery and will likely miss the first few months of the season, but it’s either a 1-year deal for $14 million ($4 million buyout) or a 2-year deal for $26 million ($16 million player option). Getz won’t make a signing larger than this Guardians deal this offseason.
  2. Easy there, @ron883. 🧌😈🤣
  3. Agreed. Luis Castillo at 3-years / $68.25 million actually has value. Just look at what mediocre starters are signing for right now. Frankie Montas got 2-years / $34 million after a very mediocre season. Severino is a much better starter than Montas but about par with Castillo and just signed for a similar contract as to the money Castillo has remaining on his deal. However, Bellinger at 2-years / $52.5 million with his most recent performance (.751 OPS, 2.2 WAR) is a bloated deal that even contending teams likely won’t want.
  4. Luis Robert is injury-prone and has been up and down in his career. He may not be worth his upcoming 2025 salary and two option years for 2026 and 2027. Andrew Vaughn was literally a non-tender candidate, especially for good teams, but the Sox literally don’t have anyone better so they brought him back. If he wasn’t their own somewhat recent first round pick, the Sox probably would have non-tendered him. The rest of what you posted makes sense, but why none of it will happen can be summed up with one name… Jerry.
  5. Other than Jordan and a fluky 2005 season for the Sox, he’s been one of the worst owners in two sports.
  6. Playing for the White Sox, in a nutshell… “So to have that call at the trade deadline be like, ‘You’re going to the Dodgers,’ it was like, ‘OK, now baseball is starting.’ I was in a position to where I hate to say I was going through the motions. You know you’re not playing for anything other than your own career, and when you don’t want to play a selfish game because it’s not a selfish game, it makes it really hard.
  7. That makes sense then. They must think Montgomery will get bigger as he ages.
  8. It will be old news once some combination of Peyton Pallette, Grant Taylor, Caleb Bonemer, and Blake Larson make the majors and have some success.
  9. Crochet talked about wanting an extension, but I doubt he is looking to get only an additional year added outside of arbitration. Players have egos. I’m sure Crochet looks at a guy like Glasgow as a comparison, thinks he’s just as good if not better, and expects a similar 5-year extension and money.
  10. A bit too early to make this claim but hopefully he is the real deal and the Sox take more guys like him rather than what they have done historically in the 2nd round. https://soxmachine.com/2024/12/by-standards-of-white-sox-second-round-picks-gavin-sheets-crushed-it/
  11. I mentioned Robert’s propensity for injuries and horrible season last year as to why I wouldn’t put a dollar on him putting up a 2.4 fWAR in 2025. Also, the lineup is terrible just like last year so he will have zero protection once again.
  12. Damn, would suck to miss out on another Gavin Sheets! 😉
  13. He makes the payroll, he hires the GM, he also hires the manager sometimes. He is the reason a new GM and manager can’t start fresh with their own staff. If it isn’t mostly on JR, who is to blame?
  14. Man, I was just thinking about him during the past season as he called into the Sox postgame with Frank, Ozzie, and Chuck. He definitely didn’t sound great. Very tired. RIP.
  15. Rick Hahn didn’t intend to trade a superstar for the corpse of James Shields either, but it can happen. Unfortunately, it’s usually from better GM’s than whom the Sox have in place that are making these deals.
  16. Agreed. I wouldn’t bet on one of those guys to have a good season. Not even Robert due to last season and his propensity for injuries. The Sox lineup is mostly composed of AAAA quality scrubs and borderline major leaguers at best. Steamer is apparently a steaming pile of poop.
  17. I think teams are going to wait to see how Robert performs in the first half of next season before making any decent offer for him. If he’s 2023 Robert, teams will want to pay for him. If he’s 2024 Robert, no one will want to pay for him. 25:$15M, 26:$20M club option ($2M buyout). 27:$20M club option ($2M buyout)
  18. ✅ Continue to beg for a new ballpark funded by taxpayers. And that should about cover it for the next 5 years.
  19. At least Bowden put some thought into a trade offer including players that would be expendable to the Red Sox that they could replace internally while getting younger — Anthony replaces Abreu, Devers moves to 1B to replace Casas, and Teel replaces Wong. But it doesn’t help the White Sox all that much to not get back players with a full 6 years of control… Abreu — 5 years of control remaining Casas — 4 years of control remaining Wong — 4 years of control remaining
  20. You are right, and it sucks, but this is the way any GM would have to run a team when the owner doesn’t want to give any one player a large contract.
