Getz, please claim this guy and see what he can do in Spring Training. A 26 year old lefty bat that can play RF, 1B, and some 3B. Monster numbers in the minors last year. He hit 30 HR and stole 32 bases. His strikeout rate is awful but he would basically cost nothing so it’s worth a shot. He also has a sweet ass name, haha. I’d cut Sheets for this guy. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/01/angels-designate-trey-cabbage-for-assignment.html

Probably already posted here but just in case it wasn’t. https://www.nbcsportschicago.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/white-sox-news/white-sox-asking-for-the-sun-and-the-moon-for-dylan-cease-reports/535746/

The Sox were innovators in this area with Dave Wilder.

Seriously. This means absolutely nothing. Bruce actually had one of his first coherent and sensical tweets above in a long time, talking about the risk of not trading Cease before opening day.

Chicago Cubs Offseason Outlook brought to to you by Caulfield
WhiteSox2023 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You keep saying this and that the Sox have had a better offseason than the Cubs, which I can’t see how with all the dumpster diving Getz has done. But let’s see where both teams end up come opening day. -
Outside the Box: Trade Cease+ for Daulton Varsho+
WhiteSox2023 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No, this doesn’t make sense for the simple fact that Varsho has too much service time already and Jerry isn’t going to want the primary return in a Cease trade being someone that he will have to pay money too via salary arbitration or a contract extension. He and Getz will both want cheap young players with minimal or no service time. -
I’ve been saying this for awhile. The risk is definitely too high. Also, When the GM is literally saying they are still looking for OF help (probably Whit) and to trade Cease, I think that says it all.

Chicago Cubs Offseason Outlook brought to to you by Caulfield
WhiteSox2023 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It’s a good signing. Some posters here were talking about how the Cubs were having an awful offseason. Hoyer was always going to spend some money. He was just waiting on the free agent market to settle down so he could get some deals. -
Royals sign Adam Frazier...nobody surprised
WhiteSox2023 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox are paying Nicky Lopez only $200K less. Wretched. -
Sox looking at building in South Loop
WhiteSox2023 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I won’t believe it until @tray says it’s happening. @tray has been saying there’s no way this is happening. -
Agreed, especially because Whit is a righty bat and can play both 2B and RF, while we currently have lefty bats in Lopez for 2B and Colas for RF. At the very least, we could potentially have a mediocre platoon situation at both positions, rather than utter garbage. ?

John Brebbia signs with Sox, Romy DFA'd/claimed by Red Sox
WhiteSox2023 replied to Fielder Jones's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It’s a one-year, $4 million contract with a mutual option for $6 million (and $1.5 million buyout) for 2025. Anyone surprised they paid a reliever this much? Also, the Sox scouting department thought Romy could be a starter at 2B at one time, didn’t they? -
Yes, poor Puig. Stroman and Anderson are definitely guys that Puig and other players should have modeled themselves after. ? One guy likes to accuse people of being racist and the other is in the news more these days because of his side piece action rather than his baseball performance.
-
He created his own reputation starting with his Dodgers days. He only has himself to blame.

2024 Offseason Spending Tracker
WhiteSox2023 replied to South Side Hit Men's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What a lovely roster for the price. -
And he’s done it, what, twice in his career? He won’t stay healthy. We all know it. This is fool’s gold.
-
This would be the only thing that makes sense. It’s pretty unlikely that the Sox performance in 2024 is going to get Sox fans excited and amicable at the 2025 SoxFest. ?
-
IMO, that’s a stupid decision if they are as bad as we mostly think they will be in 2024. They may as well wait until they have a halfway decent season and then bring back SoxFest, since they have already proven to be so cowardly about facing the music over the last couple years.

Sox select John Schriffen to be TV PbP announcer
WhiteSox2023 replied to fathom's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It’s not, but why would Brooks and JR not want their PBP broadcaster to get national exposure and fame, other than his price increasing? They have been filling in for Stone for years. I don’t think he even ever flies to the west coast. -
Anyone who can get injured in this way cannot be counted on. And back issues will quickly end a guy’s career (see Joe Crede).

Very crazy. These teams don’t want to give front office control to Billy boy. -
JOC Pederson to D-Backs, $9.5 million/1 year deal
WhiteSox2023 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox had Naquin last year. He should cost nothing more than the minor league minimum if they even want him. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/08/brewers-trade-tyler-naquin-white-sox.html -
The chances he even stays healthy enough to survive until the trade deadline with a high enough number of quality at bats to make him a desireable trade target for a contender are next to zero. My guess is that no team is interested in him at the trade deadline or if the Sox put him on waivers. The Sox end up paying out his full $24 million salary and his $5 million buyout.
-
He would have to be amazing in the first half and his massive salary is still going to limit any trade return for him. A .788 OPS in the first half isn’t going to cut it and if he’s mediocre, no one is touching him.
