  1. I can agree with most of this and that Jerry has spent in the past when the team was in competition. However, he is now on the precipice of selling the team. I don’t see him allowing Getz to spend any significant money within the next 3 seasons until he sells to Ishbia. So while I am no fan of Getz, I will admit he is pretty screwed over by Jerry when it comes to free agency.
  2. Sorry, I didn’t catch that. I don’t agree. They will be better. I still think .500 may be a stretch though. 70 wins sounds about right. And I agree with your second paragraph as well. But I just don’t see Jerry letting Getz spend enough money in any offseason to fill the team’s holes until he ultimately sells the team.
  3. It’s not spite. It’s history. The major league team’s record matters. It’s very possible that Getz doesn’t have a season over .500 or even sniffs the playoffs within the next 3 years before Ishbia can take over at the earliest. I don’t think that’s a crazy statement. Like I said, even if you think Getz is a good GM, his owner isn’t going to let him spend the money required to get his team to the next level.
  4. That is good, but still not enough. And even if you think Getz is a good GM, can evaluate the free agent market properly, and sign the right players, he is neutered by an owner that simply won’t let him spend the money required to fill the holes on the team.
  5. He’s been on the decline for awhile now. Also, his agent is Boras so he probably still thinks he’s worth more than he is. I don’t see the Sox even being interested.
  6. For sure. If his walk rate wasn’t so high, he would be untouchable and likely already in the majors. But yeah, teams would be willing to take a chance on an arm like that.
  7. Even without a potential lockout looming, I still don’t understand how some people think Jerry has any motivation to spend money on the roster until he ultimately sells in 2029 at the earliest. The Sox are losing money because they stink and no one wants to pay to go watch them play. Meanwhile, the Sox don’t have a good enough farm system to improve without also spending money. The team will be “mired in mediocrity” until Ishbia takes over, cleans house of Getz, Barfield, and company, gets a legit FO in here, and spends some money. Hopefully that happens in 2029 and we don’t have to wait much longer.
  8. Good stuff. Thanks for sharing. Jeebus, McGarry’s strikeout numbers are insane. Too bad his walk rate is so high as well.
  9. Is this what you are looking for? https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/roster/40-man A Rule 5 watch would be interesting though.
  10. Well, apparently he’s winning 82 games next season so that grade is jumping to an A+ soon.
  11. They should. But are you betting money that Jerry will spend any money to do so?
  12. Brother Rice just owned St. Lawrence. St. Ignatius is their last opponent before the playoffs. Fenwick hung with Mount Carmel and had a chance of beating them. Unfortunately, they lost right at the end.
  13. Agreed. 2005 was the one thing this team and owner got right. I have every DVD about the 2005 team. They are actually pretty cheap now if anyone wants to buy them now.
  14. No thanks. It’s more fun watching you try to convince everyone that Getz is good at his job. How many more losing seasons will the Sox incur before you admit you were wrong? 3+ is probably a good bet.
  15. Yeah, you just went full on homer. I’m not a Sox fan, and am instead a Marlins fan, because I think Getz and Jerry suck at their respective jobs. Thanks for proving my point about you.
  16. 1) “I’m guessing Getz acted on...” Discussion over right there, but I’ll humor you. Regardless, Shane Drohan is no longer with the White Sox so no matter how well he performs going forward, it won’t be for the White Sox. 2) Once again, Getz DFA’ing Drohan to bring up Sammy Peralta did not prevent 4 more losses for the 2024 White Sox team, which was your claim. The dude pitched only 15 innings and finished the season with an 0-0 record and a 4.80 ERA. 3) Getz traded away a more valuable prospect in Fajardo than Drohan for an old garbage reliever in Cam Booser. I have no idea why you are referencing the Pirates. Chris Getz is not the GM of the Pirates. Once again, you continue to misrepresent transactions as if I ever said guys like Smith-Nigba, Bart, or Canario would lead the Pirates, or the White Sox, to a World Series. They were always flier acquisitions that the most losingest (is that even a word?) record-setting White Sox team could have given at bats to in 2024. So basically that’s more obvious hyperbole from WestEddy when he is losing a discussion. Get a new gimmick other than putting words in everyone else’s mouth as if it actually happened on this board, WE. It didn’t. So one again, where did Getz win in any of these three discussion points? Can’t you simply call a spade a spade?
  17. Getz already set the record with 121 losses in 2024. It’s funny that you actually care that he might have prevented the Sox from losing 125. But fine, I’ll roll with that assumption. So Sammy Peralta’s mediocre 15 innings pitched in 2024 prevented 4 more losses? Okay… You were actually trying to give props to Getz for his Rule 5 drafting of Drohan, just because Drohan pitched better for the Red Sox this year AFTER Getz DFA’ed him, and he is now Boston’s 41st ranked prospect. Meanwhile, your same favorite GM traded away the Red Sox currently #25 ranked prospect in Fajardo for an old garbage lefty reliever in Cam Booser. Are you still confused by my post? I’m not sure how you can’t comprehend your own hypocrisy in your efforts to fluff up one Chris Getz.
  18. I never said that about Thompson and Mena, but nice try putting words in my mouth like you always do to everyone. But if Getz gets credit for the developmental success of players he DFA’s or trades away, shouldn’t he also be blamed for not keeping said prospects? Afterall, Getz chose to add Sammy Peralta to the roster in 2024 rather than retaining Rule 5 pick Shane Drohan in a season his team lost a record-setting 121 games. That is the type of season in which a Rule 5 pick can easily be retained, had Getz thought Drohan was worth keeping. Getz DFA’ed Peralta twice that same season and he left via free agency at the end of the season. Getz also thought that 33-year old, -0.5 bWAR, lefty reliever Cam Booser was worth trading away Fajardo for. This is like praising Hahn and the Sox for signing and developing Fernando Tatis Jr. only for Hahn to trade him away for a washed-up bum in James Shields. Congrats, I guess?
  19. I just looked at the Red Sox top 30 prospect list and didn’t see Drohan. However, I did see Yhoiker Fajardo at #25. Getz strikes again!
  20. He’s also turning 27 in January and has yet to pitch in the majors. Is he even really a “prospect” at this point?
  21. I guess Getz and his staff didn’t think Drohan was worth retaining. Getz DFA’ed Drohan last year to make room for the great Sammy Peralta. Getz DFA’ed Peralta twice during the same season.
  22. I was actually referring to nrockway’s post. I brought up Getz because he’s one of the two big reasons (along with Jerry) that the Sox have the stinky record that they do. We were talking about managerial records and GMs are a big part of that, as are owners. Meanwhile, 83 wins for the Reds this year along with a playoff berth wasn’t a tough path, yet you praise Getz for helping to “improve” the Sox record from 41 wins to 60. You and most other Sox fans would literally cream in their pants if Getz managed to put up an 83 win season within the next 3 seasons.
