2023-24 NFL Season Thread
WhiteSox2023 replied to CentralChamps21's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
You are doing way too much maneuvering in your head and making way too many assumptions at this point in time to predict 2025. How can you even know that the Bears would have a top 12 or so pick in 2025, at this time, based on a trade down? The Bears own pick likely won’t be as high as 12 in 2025 because they will probably be at least an average or above average team by then. And you don’t always end up trading down the #1 overall pick with a terrible team. -

You can’t just assume that if the Bears trade down yet again, they will get a high enough pick to draft the best QB available. At #1 overall, you have a shot at the best QB in the draft unless you choose poorly (like the Bears with Trubisky and like the Panthers with Young). CJ Stroud is already the man in his rookie season. Fields is still unproven in his third season. I’m not taking a chance on missing out on a Stroud-type talent again. -

Yep, I’m ready to move on. I don’t care what Fields is doing against mediocre teams in garbage time. The Falcons may not have been officially eliminated yet but when your team is starting Taylor Heinicke at QB, you are already finished. I just pray that Eberflus returning next year is a fake news. Hire an entirely new coaching staff, take a QB with #1, and recoup by trying to get back a 2nd rounder for Fields from the Falcons. Let the Falcons pay Fields the huge contract and find out if he is legit. I think they would be more than happy to for a 2nd round pick. -
Now explain why a team gave up as much as they did for Giolito, in the midst of a mediocre season?
-
Amazing how we actually have recent proof that a worse pitcher with less control brought back more and yet some posters are still clueless to reality.
-
Jerry was definitely talking [lying] about the Sox being better in 2024, during his press conference.
-
Exactly. I can’t go dry-hump employees in the corporate world, even if I am just joking around. I would be terminated immediately if it was reported to HR, which it would be. Vizquel is a moron.
-
I wish there was an easy way to check this but I wonder if Bob ever even reported the Vizquel story initially two years ago, or if he completely avoided it for his buddy Jerry.
-
Nice to know Bob works under the direction of Jerry Reinsdorf.

It all goes back to one man. He is to blame for everything. The GM’s he hires, managers he chooses for his GM’s, the stupid allocation of money (i.e., ticket sales vs. data analytics), the free agent spending strategy (quantity over quality), etc., etc. The guy probably has zero clue what a bad owner he is cuz he lucked into Jordan and won a WS in 2005 after an offseason of moves that all magically hit. He got extremely lucky once so he thinks he can do it again. Nothing changes until he is “gone” unfortunately. How many owners have boasted that a 2nd place is great cuz the fans keep coming back due to hope that the team improves, rather than saying anything less than the playoffs ever year is a disappointment? What a pathetic loser of an owner to allow such a stupid quote to escape from his mouth.
-
Losing is a strategy, isn’t it? Oh wait, the draft order changes completely screwed that strategy over. So now we just have to hope the Sox actually draft well without having more obvious top 3 to 5 overall picks to select from. I’m sure the Sox won’t mess this up…
-
Righty versus lefty may not matter to Sports Guy but it damn sure matters to MLB GM’s. I realize Andrew Vaughn is heading toward mediocre/bust territory but I remember everyone saying he was the best pure hitter in the draft but knocking him for unfortunately being a right-handed hitter.
-
This is a good point. If Mayo can’t stick at 3B and is just a righty power hitting 1B, is he still worth a ton? It does look like his power is legit, unlike Andrew Vaughn.
-
No, he’s actually very busy dumpster diving for crappy players.
-
@T R U was right. This never ends well. ?
-
You’ll be back when Jerry finally opens up the purse strings for a top free agent like Hahn promised!
-
You want a 29 year old arbitration eligible starter with 4 years of control, for THIS current Sox team? Thankfully, you will never be a GM, my friend.
-
This is great to see.
-
There’s no way Getz wants a 29 year old starter who is already arbitration eligible, or a headlining 2B prospect with a questionable glove, as the top return in a Cease trade.
-
Thanks. ??
-
I don’t buy this at all.
-
I don’t think any team starting both Madrigal (3B) and Lopez (2B) would be a team in competition, with the importance of offense in the modern game. Losing that much power at a power position like 3B would be rough. The team would have to be stacked at many other positions.
-
Is there any way to quantify $17 million in cash to the top 100 rating of a of prospect? Say the Braves sent all prospects and no cash for Sale and his $27 million dollar contract. Just curious to see what one year of $27 million dollar Sale would be worth? Grissom + ???
-
I don’t see Getz taking on the risk of injury to Cease for the first half of 2024. Hahn had three big trade chips for his rebuild in Eaton, Sale, and Quintana. Getz only has two obvious ones in Cease and Robert right now.
-
Very happy Cease isn’t going to the Braves. Getting back a no power, weak glove 2B that might end up in LF would’ve been disappointing.
