No where in the article does it mention the Red Sox trading Anthony over their other outfielders. ”And according to major league sources, the Sox have continued to explore trades involving their group of young outfielders — they currently have lefthanded hitters Masataka Yoshida, Jarren Duran, and Wilyer Abreu, as well as righthanded hitters Tyler O’Neill, Rob Refsnyder, and Ceddanne Rafaela. If the Sox deal from that group to add a pitcher, they could then return to the free-agent market to add a bat such as slugger Teoscar Hernández, in whom the team remains interested even after signing Giolito.”

Jerry won’t let any of his GM’s sign any “best player at any position” and the GM’s that Jerry lets run the show aren’t good enough at their jobs to find enough diamonds in the rough to make the Sox a good team with their dumpster diving. Madrigal has been useful for the Cubs as a backup infielder who can play 3B, but he will never be a quality starter. You hoping that the Sox acquire him would only make the Sox worse than Getz’s 2024 roster already will be. The Sox already have a slightly better version of Madrigal. His name is Nicky Lopez. He plays better defense than Madrigal but he’s just as bad of a player because he can’t hit either. Neither of these two guys is more than a backup on a good team, yet Lopez will be a starter at 2B for the Sox and you are still yearning for the Sox to bring back Madrigal.

2023-24 NFL Season Thread

Why would you be so surprised by this? He is the publisher and editor of Pro Football Weekly. They definitely have their whiffs but I’m sure he has some sources from other NFL teams. -
Sox sign P Chris Flexen, DFA Carlos Perez

I heard he told everyone their responsibilities and expectations. Right after that, Jerry told Getz how much he could spend from the dumpster to attempt to build a .500 team. “We won the division in ’21, we were .500 last year. That’s nobody’s goal to be .500, but that’s still average.“ Good luck, Chris. -

It’s not irrational at all. Luck only lasts so long. It’s a reason guys like Hill and Flexen fell into the dumpster that Getz just fished them out of. -

He might be worth a low A lottery ticket at the deadline that won’t pan out to anything. He’s not worth giving any innings to over the Sox own pitching prospects. -
Gavin Sheets has no glove and can barely hit above the Mendoza line. He’s barely a bench player in the majors other than being a lefty and having the ability to hit the rare homerun on a meatball pitch, so of course he’s going to get starts in the outfield for our White Sox.

They are going to help the Sox win the division. Just ask poppy. -
In an update to this story, Frank Thomas of the White Sox was rushed to the hospital after becoming violently ill after seeing Chris Getz’s most recent player acquisitions.

Pretty obvious Getz isn’t using any special analysis on these acquisitions. It’s basically who is cheap cuz they are either old and/or sucked last year. -

Well, they better prepare for more of the same this year. Who would actually pay to see the product they will be throwing out on the field? -

Exactly. Getz is literally overpaying washed up bums at this point, and you could argue that they shouldn’t even be receiving anything but a minor league deal. -
After seeing this ridiculous Giolito signing, Getz may be wise to wait until many more starting pitchers sign. Baltimore can’t afford anyone.

The best part is that this isn’t just a flier signing. Passan said Flexen was signed to fill out the rotation. Getz for the win. -

Chris Getz, Sox offices are closed! Didn’t you get the memo? Please stop working and report back to your family! That’s enough awful acquisitions for one week! -

Imagine a future in which the White Sox finally realize that signing one good player for $10 million is better than signing multiple bums for that same amount. Quantity is not always better than quality! Meet the new GM of the White Sox, same as the previous GM, and the previous GM before him. -

The years go by, the GM changes, but the dumpster diving never does. We all know the one constant. -
Giolito just set the market for former aces trying to return to their previous glory and it’s $20 mill a year. Last I checked, Cease didn’t have a 7.07 ERA. This is just about the best news for Cease’s trade value that could have ever happened. Orioles fans may need to readjust their prospect proposals. There isn’t a decent free agent starting pitcher that they could even afford in this market.

Giolito and his 7.07 ERA still helping us out. With these prices, who could the Orioles even hope to afford on the open market? ?
