  1. Okay, go ahead and see at how over-the-hill Maldonado and Hill did individually last year. They were a pile of suck. If you think players improve in their mid-30’s, more power to ya. @WestEddy got so clowned on his Getz opinions in the other thread that he had to revert to this Joaquin Phoenix Joker character. Enjoy, WestEddy. I’ll get my popcorn ready. https://www.soxtalk.com/forums/topic/116647-white-sox-getz-have-more-work-to-do-before-spring-training-opens/
  2. I’m not sure a team that had a directive to cut payroll is going to want to deal prospects for Cease at this point.
  3. When were Maldonado and DeJong ever stud players? And if you think guys like Moncada and Eloy, who already got their millions paid out, are going to be influenced by these veterans/coaches, I think you are going to be disappointed. Even if they did somehow influence Moncada and Eloy, neither guy can stay healthy enough to make an impact in a season. Both will likely be gone before it even matters, and they probably won’t even remember their coach’s name like Luis Robert couldn’t remember Montoya.
  4. For a non-contender like the Sox, agreed. Although he would have been a great flip candidate. But Getz already wasted enough money on a bunch of scrubs to pay a guy like Chapman.
  5. Yay, our GM signed a crappy reliever! Personally, I wish Getz would have taken the week off instead. Unfortunately, I doubt any other GM would’ve signed the awful Tim Hill before Getz clocked back into work when the White Sox offices reopen. You must be easily impressed if you like seeing your GM sign two washed-up bums with a combined age of 71 and still try to sell them as good moves. Woof…
  6. Yep, it makes zero sense. Even when everyone knows the Sox are going to be terrible next season regardless of what Jerry and Getz say publicly, instead of giving guys like Sosa and Lee a chance, they acquire bums like Nicky Lopez and Stassi/Maldonado.
  7. Unfortunately, the Bears fucked up their chances at Williams and MHJ by winning meaningless games. That would have been a wet dream draft. Williams / Odunze This is the way.
  8. The way Joe Flacco is playing at age 38 (turning 39 in less than a month) is more than enough reason that Bears fans should not accept Fields’ performance and why the Bears should be picking a new QB with #1. Fields has had more than enough time to figure it out. He doesn’t have the awareness in the pocket, the ability to read his receivers, or an accurate enough arm. I hope we can get a 2nd round pick for him from the Falcons.
  9. Agreed. I want to see an entirely new coaching staff brought in before the draft so they get a say in which QB they want. And would it be crazy to think that the Falcons would give up a 2nd round pick for Fields?
  10. Has a team with the #1 overall pick ever traded down to take a QB, rather than take the best option at #1?
  11. Do we have a “paper bag with holes cut out of it” emoji?
  12. Nevermind, I missed the + sign next to Houston.
  13. I’m pretty sure he meant to say… While Povich would not be included in a trade for Cease, he could be included in a trade to Houston for Valdez.
  14. Both with two more years of control and with what is likely to be pretty similar salaries over the next two years, I’d take Valdez over Cease myself as well, lol. Tough to argue with consistent results.
  15. Re: Cease and Robert being traded… This definitely reminds me of the recent past and the only exciting part of being a Sox fan was waiting to see the trade returns for Eaton, Sale, and Quintana.
  16. At 34 years old and given his K/9 the last two seasons, I sure as hell wouldn’t put my money on it.
  17. Hahn — loved offense, neglected defense and leadership Getz — loves defense and leadership, neglects offense Hahn & Getz — love wasting money on garbage bench players and relievers
  18. I always loved the Kermit doll jumping off the building but this one is even better.
  19. Every little signing of each bad player adds up to an overall pile of crap. The same as every other past offseason.
  20. Look deeper than ERA. Look at his dropoff in K/9. He’s toast now.
  21. Getz’s two most recent acquisitions will be a combined 71 years old when the season starts.
  22. Other teams (Astros and Padres) dumped these guys for improvements. We pick up their trash.
  23. So what is the plan here? Sign all the worst free agents available, don’t develop any of your own much younger players, and do the same thing next offseason once all of these awful one year contracts are DFA’ed or expire?
  24. $3.75 million for Chapman. Hahn, I mean Getz, just paid a combined $5.8 million for two much worse players. Nothing has changed. The Sox are the same as they always were. The little amount of money they spend in the offseason is spread out amongst a few terrible players that should likely be cut before the end of their contracts. Awful.
