Guess Trade Values of Sox Starters
WhiteSox2023 replied to JUSTgottaBELIEVE's topic in Trade Winds 2024
Like others, I don’t think teams will want him at the deadline because of his innings issue (which you don’t agree with). I don’t even think the Sox will trade him until after the season is over. In the offseason, sure, I could see him being worth what you say, granted he keeps up his performance for as long as he pitches this season. -

So you quoted me saying that Cease is now worth as much as you initially thought to infer that I think Crochet is worth nothing? Nice logic there. Regardless, I will wait patiently for Steven Wilson to return another prospect like Drew Thorpe in the 50-100 range. Then I will admit to your prediction being spot on. -

Nope, I actually used exactly what you said to prove my point. ? -

Cease is definitely worth what you expected now with the Padres. -

You initially said that you expected two prospects in the 50-100 range and two prospects in the 100-200 range for Cease. The Sox received one prospect in the 50-100 range, two prospects in the 100-200 range, and a 29-year old non-closer reliever. You weren’t really as close as you think you were. Another prospect in the 50-100 range is worth a lot more than a 29-year old non-closer reliever. Steven Wilson isn’t returning a prospect in the 50-100 range. -

From what you said, yes. What two prospects did the Sox acquire for Cease in the 50-100 MLB range? Thorpe is one. A second one in that range would be a much larger return than just one, and what the Sox ultimately received. -

Sorry, dude. You have a history of over-hyping and over-expecting on trade return. Cease didn’t return anywhere near as much as you expected and neither would a worn-down Crochet. -

Getz and Barfield as talent evaluators
WhiteSox2023 replied to WhiteSox2023's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Zavala has unfortunately tanked this season but he’s still very young. DeLoach has lost his HR power this season. Seems like the Sox are better at picking pitchers over position players, which is a bit worrisome since they now need a lot more position players to build their team of the future. -

True, but it is now looking like it may have been a fluke season with where the Diamondbacks are at this season. https://www.azcentral.com/story/sports/mlb/diamondbacks/2024/02/22/mlb-offseason-grades-arizona-diamondbacks-lauded-for-trades-signings/72698582007/ Yikes. -
Ramos optioned to AAA, corresponding move before Friday's game
WhiteSox2023 replied to WestEddy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Still not much money for a team to jump on him but the velocity drop would probably deter teams more so than the money owed. -

Apparently, Go still has his 2-year, $4.5 million dollar deal with the Padres so he will probably clear waivers. -

Just saw this. Surprised that the Marlins of all teams would cut this guy over giving him a shot. -
Getz and Barfield as talent evaluators

Yep, I didn’t put it together until I read the excerpt again. I had forgotten that Josh Barfield was most recently with the Diamondbacks as their Director of Player Development, the same position Getz previously held with the Sox. Getz and Barfield have held the same titles/positions with two different teams and are now our primary and assistant GMs. -

WhiteSox2023 replied to WhiteSox2023's topic in Pale Hose Talk
In this specific case/trade, it was apparently our Assistant GM Josh Barfield, since he had seen both Fletcher and McCarthy play for the D-backs when he was their farm director. Getz still had to approve it obviously, so they are both responsible. -
Getz chose Dominic Fletcher over Jake McCarthy in the Christian Mena trade and he apparently relied heavily on Barfield’s advice. Can we get a re-do? The Sox got back the worst player of the three involved. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2024/02/11/mlb-2024-offseason-awards-free-agent-signings/72551453007/

More like the broken down nag that is about to be sent to the glue factory. -
Getz’s offseason was garbage and he managed to make an awful team even worse. He also gave away two pitching prospects and an infield prospect for essentially nothing (Fletcher and cash).
-
On pace for a 43-119 record.

How many near shutouts is this s%*# team going to avoid?
-
Swisher is a great example. Always a really good hitter with the A’s. Completely tanks with the Sox for a season and goes on to the Yankees and Indians and continues to hit well before he finishes his career. Is it just chance? Bad luck?

That same poster has been hyping all of the great trade value that Getz has acquired since the offseason so he has to stick with it at this point. The fact is, even with the returns from potential Robert, Crochet, Fedde, Kopech, Wilson, and Pham trades, this team will still be far away from competing. You have to assume around half of the prospects they acquire in these trades will be busts anyways and we are also banking on Getz to target the right young players (Mena for Fletcher anyone?). -
5-28, Toronto @ Sox 640CDT
WhiteSox2023 replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in 2024 Season in Review
But Lopez is our starting 2B, so he IS a part of the problem due to his .586 OPS whether the can play the field or not. Awful like a starting 1B with a .567 OPS or a DH with a .669 OPS that can never stay healthy. They are all liabilities, either in the batter’s box, on the field, or both. -
He sure stuck to his guns.
