  1. Yep. While the Sale return was larger (Kopech, along with the other two lesser prospects), Sale was better than Crochet and had an additional year of control. Also, teams aren’t giving up their top prospects like they did in the years of the Sale and Quintana trades. I’d trade Crochet for Holliday in a second, and wouldn’t think twice about it. However, I doubt the Orioles would agree to the deal.
  2. And the Sox don’t have enough bats for a decent lineup, much less any true star potential players. While you don’t want to lose Crochet, the Sox do have some promising arms that could fill the void. You also free up that $75+ million dollar extension that wouldn’t be going to Crochet for other players.
  3. When is the last comparable trade of a recent #1 overall prospect for an ace potential starter with two years of control? The Sale trade is all I can think of. I believe Moncada was the #1 overall prospect at the time but Sale had 3 years of control left and was much more established as a top starter than Crochet is right now. Sale was also under an extremely team-friendly contract for those remaining 3 years at $39.5 million total.
  4. Per Wikipedia: ”Chappas was measured by Harry Caray and publicly declared to be 5 ft 3 in (1.60 m), an inch or two shorter than established star Freddie Patek. He was one of the shortest players in Major League history, although Chappas stated in an interview in Sports Illustrated that he was closer to 5 ft 5 in (1.65 m), and implied that team owner Bill Veeck exaggerated his short stature for publicity reasons.”
  5. First of all, when does Reinsdorf ever approve including that kind of money in a trade? Even if he did, I think the Orioles would rather have 6 years of a cheap Holliday rather than 3 years of Robert for $40 million. 25:$15M, 26:$20M club option ($2M buyout). 27:$20M club option ($2M buyout)
  6. I’d only bet your house.
  7. I know it was the Panthers but I think the key is that Caleb appears to be improving with more game experience and is starting to catch up with the speed of the NFL compared to college, which was probably a shock to him early on. And to look this good with still a weak OL is nice to see.
  8. At least the Cease trade was just mediocre. The Fletcher and Vargas trades were highway robbery.
  9. Yep, that’s why I think they should be both be the price. Both are still very young but their prospect ratings appear to be much higher than their performances dictate thus far. De Vries has hit much better than Salas though.
  10. Holliday played more games at SS than 2B in the minors and the scouting reports I’ve read say he’s at least average defensively at SS. They moved him to 2B because they weren’t going to move their All-Star Gunnar Henderson from SS. But fine, I’ll take a 2B prospect with a .928 OPS in the minors. You think he’s overrated because of 190 at bats in the majors. He’s 20 years old. This isn’t a 24 year old Vargas with 509 career at bats.
  11. Getz listened to his assistant GM Josh Barfield on choosing Dominic Fletcher over Jake McCarthy, due to Barfield’s knowledge of both players since he was the the director of player development for the Diamondbacks. Getz then listened to assistant hitting coach Mike Tosar on acquiring Miguel Vargas because Tosar was the scout with the Dodgers who originally signed Vargas. Tosar was fired a week later. Perhaps there was input from others but only the above two guys were mentioned for both the Fletcher and Vargas acquisitions. You can’t make this stuff up. And by “stuff” I mean epic failures.
  12. PTSD from the Fletcher and Vargas trades.
  13. Is that Dominic Fletcher in a throwback uniform?
  14. Oh yeah, I tried to wipe that one from my memory.
  15. I like how I don’t know for sure if you are trolling in your posts. You are much better at this than @sin city sox fan.
  16. No, but that’s what a competent GM should be able to get back.
  17. No, the Fedde/Kopech trade was an awful deal for the Sox made by the worst GM in baseball. I don’t trust Getz for a second to deal Crochet and Robert for players that he and his advisors like. See Fletcher and Vargas as a reminder of how awful Getz is at choosing talent in a trade return. Robert looks like another Eloy and Moncada — poor performance and injuries. It is probably best to see if Robert turns it around next year but Jerry will never offer Crochet a deal that he will accept. I’ll take 6 years of a 20-year old potential star SS that fits the Sox new timeline of not being good for years. Robert and Crochet will not be around by the time the Sox are competitive again anyways.
  18. The Panthers are wretched. Must be nice to know you made one of the worst trades in NFL history to take a bust QB at #1 overall only for the #2 QB taken to be an absolute stud.
  19. Thankfully you can’t be banned for being a terrible baseball player. We have plenty of those. 😩
  20. Your favorite GM acquired or “developed” all of them. I’m pretty sure Remillard was DFA’ed twice this year and no team wanted him.
  21. This is true but there are still some screw-ups. They are broadcasting in H.264 video encoding rather than the standard MPEG-2 format. Many slightly older TV’s don’t support this codec so people can basically get the sound from the CHSN OTA channels with no display. Pretty stupid decision. It’s probably OTA mostly because the Sox, Bulls, and Hawks all suck and the majority of cable provider don’t care to pick them up.
  22. You have to get Salas and De Vries, and that’s probably not enough.
  23. Jack Elliot is out with a shoulder injury from last week. Here’s the game recap… https://www.chicagotribune.com/2024/10/04/cj-gray-brady-gomez-brother-rice-mount-carmel-football/
