  1. I knew Getz had three children. I just didn’t know one of them posted in this message board.
  2. Why is it irrelevant? Yes, the Sox would have still been bad this season… that’s obvious. But it shows that Getz may have questionable player assessment skills. He sure didn’t seem to think Maldonado was done, while the Astros knew it all too well.
  3. Zavala was worth -0.4 bWAR this year and his salary was $756,700. Maldonado was worth -1.3 bWAR and Getz gave him a guaranteed $4.5 million. The Astros knew Maldonado was done. Getz didn’t. It was a bad signing.
  4. And it turned out to be a pointless trade because Julks is a soon-to-be 29 year old outfielder with a .670 OPS that prevented Colas from getting any at bats. Further, what good does a player like Vargas do for this team when he can’t play a position and has 5 years of control left, rather than 6 like a prospect that the Sox would have control over when they want to call him up? Even if Vargas pans out, the Sox probably won’t be competitive until the end of his control. With where this team is at, they should almost always be taking the promising prospect over a guy whose arbitration clock has already started. Also, please provide some commentary on the Dominic Fletcher trade as well. Finally, no one thinks Seby Zavala is any good. The point was that Getz could have kept him at a minimum salary rather than waste $4.5 million dollars on the corpse of Maldonado, whom everyone knew was absolutely done.
  5. No, of course not. But you are the one who has posted this snarky comment in two separate threads now so I’m not sure what you are complaining about here…
  6. Isn’t it surprising that posters on a Sox message board aren’t happy with the Sox ownership and front office when the team is on the verge of setting the record for being historically bad? I guess some people are fine with the Sox being the laughingstock of baseball. Low expectations…
  7. I’m pretty sure Vargas was moved off of 3B to 2B and then LF because his glove is so bad.
  8. I never said the Sox couldn’t afford it. But it is a bigger amount to them and they won’t be adding much to it other than more of the same — dumpster diving signings. Posters who thought the Sox would be spending money with Eloy and Moncada off the books will be proven wrong next offseason.
  9. And Benintendi’s salary for 2025 will soon be 16.5% of the Sox payroll, once Getz drops the payroll to the rumored $100 million per Jerry’s instruction.
  10. “In the context of baseball” doesn’t mean much considering the Sox have never kept pace with the spending trends in the MLB. 5/$75 is still the most the Sox have paid any single player and they aren’t planning on spending much money, per Getz. So a player salary of $16.5 million per season is a lot to the Sox.
  11. It’s the largest contract the Sox have ever given out but somehow it’s not a lot of money to the Sox? That doesn’t really make much sense.
  12. Meanwhile, the Sox were rumored to try to be attaching Benintendi’s contract in a Crochet trade and are still crying poor.
  13. Getz has been horrible in his short tenure thus far. It doesn’t take a professional scout’s eyes to see that.
  14. The bigger concern is that to the White Sox, it IS a lot of money.
  15. Getz essentially burned $24 million in a fire pit this past offseason. That’s pretty much Bryce Harper’s annual salary. Brebbia - $5.5 million Maldonado - $4.5 million Lopez - $ 4.3 million Soroka - $3 million Clevinger - $3 million Hill - $1.8 million Flexen - $1.75 million There is also the awful trade for Dominic Fletcher that cost Christian Mena, and the fact that Getz/Barfield chose Fletcher as the return over .800 OPS Jake McCarthy. The trade for Bailey Horn, whom was later dumped for cash. DFA’ing Romy González and Declan Cronin. DFA’ing Kevin Pillar too early. I’m sure there’s more, but those are the ones I remember.
  16. I totally forgot about Chris The Roider Davis. ”The Orioles signed Davis to a seven-year, $161 million contract in January 2016. In 2018, he set the MLB record for the lowest batting average ever for a qualified player, batting . 168. In 2019, Davis set the MLB record for the most consecutive at bats by a position player without a hit, going 0-for-54.”
  17. Proof that JR thinks it’s his way or the highway. He doesn’t like criticism or detractors. Two former players with World Series rings offer to give him some advice and he shuns them completely. I won’t say it but I can hint at it. Father Time needs to take care of the Sox biggest problem. Until then, we get to watch his sorry ass sh1t show.
  18. Meanwhile, Maldonado is at -1.4 WAR for the season and cost $4.5 million guaranteed. That’s -1 WAR worse than Seby Zavala (0.4 WAR) who is earning $756,700 on the season. We all agree that Colas should’ve been playing most of this ridiculously sh1tty season. Further proof Getz is a clown with roster management. Absolutely worthless Gavin Sheets is still playing over Colas. Romy González is at 0.8 WAR and making $740,000 on the season. Getz had to trade a valuable reliever away in Bummer to get a bunch of garbage back, including Nicky Lopez. Lopez is at a 0.3 WAR and is being paid a guaranteed $4.3 million dollars. So Getz essentially paid $7.3 million more to get -1.5 WAR less from the crappy players he already had on the roster. And keep in mind, this is just comparing two positional player acquisitions. If you factor in the rest of Getz’s acquisitions from the past offseason, it’s much worse. Trust me… Getz is a terrible GM, period. He was a former Director of Player Personnel and yet he has no clue on how to value players appropriately. He has whiffed far more times than he has signed a good player (Fedde, DeJong) and he got a bust return for Fedde.
  19. Ironically, most of the players the Sox were interested in (Benintendi) and ultimately traded for (Moncada, Kopech, Luis Alexander Basabe, and Victor Diaz) were either blah or busts. They would have ended up being better off trading Sale for Devers in a one-for-one straight up trade.
  20. Rafael Devers. This article explains how the trade went down… https://www.nbcsportsboston.com/mlb/boston-red-sox/how-close-did-the-red-sox-come-to-trading-rafael-devers-for-chris-sale-let-dave-dombrowski-explain/399563/?amp=1
  21. And trade for position player prospects, not busts with less than 6 years of control and no defensive position.
