Yep. Can’t trade their remaining assets (Crochet and Robert) for a haul because teams are no longer willing to deal their top prospects. And can’t tank for high draft picks as easily as in the past.
-
I would agree with your detailed breakdown.
-
Neither of us know that, for the Sox or the Marlins. But you can find several articles right that have the Sox as the loser of the trade deadline and the Marlins as winners.
-
Once again, no one walked away from the Marlins and they got a good return on their trade assets. They probably won the trade deadline as sellers. Meanwhile, everyone and their grandma knows that the Marlins are a lower payroll team that has to move their pricier contracts almost each and every year. So why didn’t your analogy apply to the Marlins, like it did with the Sox?

Fedde has been worth 4.7 bWAR thus far this season. Kopech and his 0.4 bWAR were attached to that trade as well, so the Sox gave up over 5 WAR in that deal. You actually were okay with the Fedde trade but are a bit disappointed that 0.2 bWAR DeJong didn’t net a better return?

Zero BA T100 prospects traded at the 2024 TDL

Agreed. But gal’s point remains. There may no longer be much of a path to selling top assets for prospects any longer. Teams aren’t willing to give them up. That, along with the draft changes… Welp, good luck Getz… -
My guess is that the lowered attendance is impacting Reinsdorf’s bottom line of revenue, but that they still aren’t losing money. Jerry is going to have Getz cut the payroll to $100 million next offseason to account for these losses in revenue, but they will still be in the green overall.

Same post I made. Makes zero sense.

I was doing that as well. I seem to remember Hahn burning $33 million or so on garbage during the failed Machado offseason.
-
Worth a try. Maybe his power will magically come back in Chicago rather than Charlotte.
-
I doubt the Cubs were ever going to trade Taillon. They acquired an All-Star 3B to build for the future so dealing Taillon wouldn’t have made sense.
-
Agreed. I had Getz’s offseason as a D, which was only saved from an F due to the Fedde signing. I was then going to give him an F for the trade deadline because he failed to extract good value out of Fedde (plus Kopech). However, the Banks trade bumped my trade deadline grade for Getz up to a D.
-
Around $25 million dollars, or Bryce Harper’s annual salary. And this happens almost every year from my memory, but I’d have to look back and do the math.
-
Sheets shouldn’t even be at DH. If he has has options, send him down. Or DFA him. I don’t really care. He’s has proven himself to be worthless over the years. Since Benintendi “has” to play due to his contract, DH his sorry ass.
-
Both returns were on par or better than what the Sox got for Fedde/Kopech, while the Sox at least had the better trade asset than Rogers.
-
Sorry, this excuse won’t work. The Marlins are a desperate seller almost every year and they had a great trade deadline of selling their assets. Try again…
-
Or, he doesn’t have the ability to get a decent return for his assets (see Fedde trade).

Letter grades A through F please.

Embarrassing.
