  1. A down year kills a player’s value. See Dylan Cease and Luis Robert.
  2. Actually only 4 years of control for Casas and Wong. Let’s help the Red Sox re-tool their lineup and get younger while we get older!
  3. Wow. I understand the risk of Robert getting injured or tanking again in the first half. Then you are facing a $20 million dollar option for 2026. But is there no end to this team’s cheapness? Their guaranteed payroll for 2025 is at like $66 million right now. Selling him low doesn’t do much for this team either.
  4. The Athletic’s Jim Bowden reported that the Red Sox could include Triston Casas in a trade package for White Sox LHP Garrett Crochet. While Bowden is speculating on the exact trade package the Red Sox would offer for Crochet, it’s interesting to note his mention of Casas since there has been lots of reporting this offseason that the Red Sox are looking to move Rafael Devers off of third base. If the Red Sox were to sign a third baseman and move Devers to first base then they may view Casas as a palatable trade option if it nets them a potential difference-making starter like Crochet. Bowden suggested that “a package of Casas, Wilyer Abreu, and Connor Wong probably gets close to landing Crochet. The Red Sox could then replace Abreu with prospect Roman Anthony in right field, replace Wong with Kyle Teel at catcher.”
  5. This place will be in meltdown mode if the Sox trade Crochet for #53 prospect Justin Crawford and whatever the prospect return is for Alec Bohm.
  6. Getz apparently being delusional. Robert may be worth top prospects if he has a massive first half. I can’t see a team meeting that high of a price until he proves himself again.
  7. Since when do trades work like that? Maybe if they had huge bloated contracts and were bad players. But Bohm and Lux are both worth their salaries so it’s not like they have negative trade value. Bohm is projected to receive $8.1 million via arbitration for 2025, which isn’t bad for a 3 WAR player last year. Lux is projected to receive $2.7 million for 2025 and he was a 2.1 WAR player last year. So they aren’t bad players, but what does Getz think 4 to 5 more wins is doing for this team in 2025 and 2026? And you would be losing Crochet and/or Robert’s WAR/production, which could be a net loss. Either guy included in a Crochet or Robert trade isn’t going to increase the prospect returns. It will decrease them.
  8. Yep, more ridiculous trade targets. Two years of these two guys does absolutely nothing for this team.
  9. I mean, we already know Getz isn’t spending much this offseason in free agency. He said so himself two months ago. ”The Kids Can Play.”
  10. Yep, pretty crazy. Jerry is going to be banking those savings. Yet another long rebuild means more $$$.
  11. Yes, it was BAMTech, which was sold by the MLB to Disney. Each team received $50 million. But that was still chump change compared to what MLB teams get annually through revenue sharing — ~$200+ million. Just owning a team pays for itself and earns money. There’s reasons why teams maintain such low payrolls and it wasn’t always to tank for draft picks.
  12. That 1.50 WHIP is apparently sexy to Getzy.
  13. MLB teams profit on local TV revenue, ticket sales, merchandise sales, parking, concessions, etc. However, you need to look into revenue sharing as well. For example, MLB.tv revenue goes to the central MLB fund, which is eventually divided up amongst all 30 teams for revenue sharing, along with the luxury tax, and other forms of revenue. https://www.thetribune.ca/sports/mlb/
  14. Were the Jesse White Tumblers already booked somewhere else? I thought that used to be the Bulls go to performance.
  15. Big news here… 😉 “White Sox re-signed INF Nick Podkul to a minor league contract.”
  16. Sure, but it’s obvious Jerry doesn’t want to spend money on him or good free agent position players. So Getz is going to trade him for position player prospects.
  17. This is true as well. There’s what makes sense, and what the Sox do. 🤣
  18. Exactly. Benintendi in the second half… 235 PA .263 AVG .328 OBP .502 SLG .830 OPS 13 HR 38 RBI It makes zero sense to ruin any trade return by including Benintendi. The payroll is already one of the lowest in the MLB. You may as well see if Benintendi continues his good second half into 2025 and then you can likely trade him without it hurting so bad.
  19. There are really only two realistic outcomes and one is bad, very bad.
  20. I don’t quite understand your second outcome. There’s only one reason that a team would take on Benintendi and his contract in a Crochet trade, and that is to pay less in the form of prospects for Crochet. The return of a trade of Crochet and Benintendi won’t be “about the same” as a trade of Crochet alone. Teams don’t take on $47.5 million in salary over the next 3 years for free, and we all know that Benintendi’s .685 OPS and noodle arm in LF isn’t worth that money.
  21. Exactly. The Sox payroll is at like $66 million after anticipated arbitration payouts. There’s no reason for this team to neuter a Crochet or Robert trade return by including Benintendi. It’s not like Getz is going to spend any of the freed up money anyways.
  22. Oh god, they are still doing that? How horribly lame.
  23. “It’s unclear if the former All-Star has drawn any sort of attention or if the team is simply making him available.“ 🤣🤣🤣
