Be careful getting the right Basabe. They're twins with the same first name.
Exactly. Was thinking the same thing!
I don't care one way or another. He's better than the other AAAA bums the Sox have run out there. $3MM is pocket change to a real franchise. a rounding error. shows how bad our minors are that they can't come up with someone better.

When your depth doesn't get picked up by anyone in the big leagues and winds up in korea, you don't actually have depth.
Yep. He is horrible. Mr Gofer ball.
that list isn't right unless the rules have changed:
In order for a player to be eligible for the Rule 5 Draft, they must (A) not be on the team’s 40-man roster and (B) they must have signed at age 18 or 19 and spent 5 or 4 years respectively in the organization (essentially, they must be 22 years old and not protected).

Always a bad idea to turn down a guaranteed $34 million. His life is not going to change materially if he's lucky enough to make an extra couple million a season. With how bad he looked earlier in the season compared to previous years and the increase in injury risk with age that is a bit of a surprise.
I think I agree unless he knows something we don't.

$160mm payroll is what it kind of takes...
they could unload Sale, Melky, Frazier, Robertson and have a payroll of like $80MM. You think Jerry might like that plan instead?
Depends on what you define as a 1st round pick:
Drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 1st round (48th) of the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft from King HS (Tampa, FL).
