Jon Heyman: Sox have little interest in moving Sale or Quintana
Hatchetman replied to Kyyle23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Encarnacion will be 34? What could possibly go wrong? -
What are the odds that Avi is still here in 2017?
Hatchetman replied to balfanman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 09:07 AM) No. Bernstein said yesterday (with help from Scott from Davenport) that there have been 238 fly balls (of 200 feet or less) to left this season with a runner on 3rd base. Only 6 of those runners have scored. After yesterday, that number is up to 7. It was a terrible setup, it was an even more terrible throw, but it wasnt a herculean feat to get that ball home. well, how many of them have attempted to score? And he obviously didn't have a grip on the ball. The guy is no good, but these things happen. His arm is probably the best part of his entire game. -

he caught the ball, couldn't get a handle on it and pretty much threw it straight into the ground. would've taken a great through to nail him. -

August 29th Game Thread: ChiSox at Detroit Tigers

It's all good. I recently learned that blown saves don't matter. -
I'm on the fence yet with Avi. Can he be on a 25 man roster and not be an everyday player, I dunno. Backup LF/RF/DH spot starter against lame duck pitchers? Not sure. He IS better than guys like Shuck, Sands, Coats. Wouldn't be the worst guy filling in on a temporary basis if somebody gets hurt.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 28, 2016 -> 07:15 PM) Rodon looks slimmer, looks to be in better shape. That's funny b/c I was thinking man is that guy stout!

Position Player fWAR: Eaton the 7 Dwarves
Hatchetman replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
BBRef has sox at 12.5 WAR for position players, good for #24 Fangraphs has them at 7.6, good for #28 I don't think the big picture is much different regardless which you use. -
Position Player fWAR: Eaton the 7 Dwarves
Hatchetman replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sox are 12th in pitching WAR, 28th in position player WAR. Team WAR is highly correlated with team record but it is not like a 1:1 thing. -
Position Player fWAR: Eaton the 7 Dwarves
Hatchetman replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No, 19th in offensive WAR at 1B alone. There are 18 1B who have had a better offensive season. At least according to Fangraphs WAR. -
I'm just glad he's gone. Toronto wasn't going to give anything of value for him, obviously. Who cares?

Just looking at Abreu's offensive WAR alone, he's 19th. Add his bad defense and he logically falls lower. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 03:42 PM) If they plan on having Burdi on the opening day roster, there is no reason for him to not come up now. That may be a clue as to if they are "going for it" in 2017.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 03:07 PM) , is the impact that has on the bottom line of the franchise, as compared to other franchises who don't have as high of a transient fan factor as the White Sox do. Show me your rigorous analysis that leads you to believe this is a fact.

Hate is such a nasty word. Can we all agree on "intense dislike?"
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 10:58 AM) tell ya what, they are probably too smart to buy naming rights, but with their recent move to bridgeport and all, vienna beef park would have been pretty great. Hell yeah it would have.

Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale
Hatchetman replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You can't believe anything these people say one way or another. They're rich for a reason. -
criminy, the Cleveland region has 2 million people and they averaged over 3 million in attendance over an 8 year period. That is incredible!
-
Since 2006 the Sox haven't managed to even put two .500 seasons together! That's terrible. How are you going to sell season ticket packages with that kind of momentum?
-
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 05:04 PM) Hahn pointed out that they wanted Burdi to work on some things out of the stretch. Only problem--he doesn't put anybody on base. https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/768928437532667904 Little bit I've seen him he was always in the stretch.
-
The correlation coefficient between Sox winning % and attendance is +0.44, which is pretty significant.
-
What's the Sox fan loyal metric, about 2.4? I'm just looking for the truth here. No subjectivity.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 12:29 PM) But they aren't winning and they do suck and we've all been complaining about the product on the field for years and nothing has changed. This is just like an extra (albeit minor and silly) nut punch from a franchise going nowhere. Another day another minor ignominy for Sox fans to absorb.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 09:21 AM) We had great pro scouting for 2000s and I don't know what the hell happened to it but it has been horrible. Possibly other FO's have become relatively more adept at the statistical analytics? -
Cub fans don't bother me one iota. But the never ending series of embarrassments and marketing blunders has an effect on the marginal fans and potential fans. Adolescents, for example: who wants to be the idiot in middle school riding the White Sox bandwagon? I know some will claim if you don't wave your Sox banner high and proud no matter the circumstances, you are a morally flawed person...could be. But this team is on a slow death spiral IMO.
