QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 08:30 AM) Let Cubs fans make fun of the name, and least we aren't cheering for wife beaters. Yeah, we've been there done that ourselves.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 08:26 AM) So you think Guaranteed Rate was the White Sox first and only call? Maybe these other companies don't see value in putting their name on a stadium. It probably would be very hard to determine what kind of business is generated just by purchasing naming rights. I'm sure they took the best deal. I really doubt they were thinking, let's pick these guys because it will really piss some people off. If the White Sox were in first place right now, people wouldn't care about this at all. It's just a case of trying to kick someone when they are down. Of course they took the best deal. We don't know if John Deere, or any other well respected company, was interested in being associated with the White Sox at all. Probably not.

I chuckled and shook my head when I heard the news. Par for the course with this franchise. If that is all they could find, what can you do? And the G.R. guy said the White Sox sought them out, not the other way around. How about John Deere Field? Caterpillar Park? The CAT would sound pretty cool. Wallgreens? ADM? ConAgra?

I finally got used to calling it "the cell." Can we just call it Sox Park?

on white sox twitter feed there are some cool photos of Ventura/Fraz/Rodon visiting Children's Hospital. I can't figure out how to link those here.

Call has cooled off in a major way the past couple of weeks. Wonder if that is luck, fatigue, injury? -

I'm glad they passed on Desmond. Unless it was part of an "all in" thing where they got Cespedes, Fowler, etc. in addition. -

Which draft pick would have Desmond cost us? -
That blurb is total speculation. I listened briefly to WSCR this AM and on the update they said Ventura said that Shields would remain in the rotation. Honestly, I don't think they have anyone considerably better.

I'd really really like to win a 10K race for my age group. I mean nobody wants to win like me. Do I run 5-6 times/week, 30+ miles/week? No Do I follow a strict training protocol? No Have I hired a trainer to work with me? No Do I follow a strict diet so that I would lose the excess 10-20 lbs I have? No Do I have the latest technology that would allow me to evaluate distance, split times, heart rate, pace, etc.? No But let me tell you. there is NOBODY who wants to win a 10K like me. -

I would think one the worst organizations in baseball would be ecstatic to make it to the World Series. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 23, 2016 -> 10:31 AM) I don't think anyone is ecstatic to lose the WS. so if they would be less than ecstatic to lose the WS, what would they be to have the fourth-worst record in baseball from 2013-2016? -

the owners of the team would be ecstatic to lose the world series: they'd be making a ton of dough. -
Lawrie is what he is. The past five years he has put up OPS' between .706 and .729. Remarkably consistent.

A rotation of Q, Rodon, Shields, Fulmer, Ranaudo!

Sox org went 0-6 last night.

Maybe the guy's hurt or something. Got absolutely destroyed in his AAA start.

Are stats in rookie leagues predictive?
Hatchetman replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Back in the day they had a bunch of secondary drafts. I think that's what those were. Not the main June draft. I don't know the history of why those drafts existed or why they were eliminated. -

Good stuff. Reminds me of a guy I followed back in the day, Derek Lee. http://www.baseball-reference.com/register...id=lee---002der 42nd rounder, eventually did get a cup of coffee with Twins. -
I must say I was pretty unimpressed with Fulmer also. Bad command and 92-93mph heater? Theres a thousand guys in the minors that can do that. I'm not in the "wasted pick" camp yet though.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2016 -> 12:55 PM) You give other Gms way too much credit. we'll see. I'm not in the trade Sale camp, but if somebody's going to offer the sun and the moon and the stars too, go for it.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 18, 2016 -> 12:48 PM) Doesn't his approach to hitters this year kind of cause that? possible, but if I'm another GM I'm not betting my job on it. at least not for some of the insane packages people were fantasizing about.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 18, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) While I definitely appreciate your opinion and the thought you put into this post, I'm just going to go ahead and disagree with all of it. If you think this organization is going to sell off pieces next trade deadline if they're around .500, you're just fooling yourself my friend. OK, so what do you think will happen?

All sorts of metrics: contact rates against are way up. velocity down a bit. hard hit balls% up. comprehensive pitching measure like SIERA and xFIP at career highs. etc. etc.
