  1. Gomez is another 140K 30BB guy. Just what we need.
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 6, 2016 -> 10:40 AM) They'll start the season with Melky, Frazier, and Lawrie. They'll sign two different catchers again. Same old stuff. Rowand will whip them into shape.
  3. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 11:22 PM) Zangari had 3 doubles today with an RBI. Up to .271 on the year. up to .207 on the year if you include the .166 at kannapolis.
  4. well a few years ago, Stony said Abreu was "far better" than Rizzo, so I don't know what to think.
  5. JR: This is fine!.....wait a minute... https://thenib.com/this-is-not-fine
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 08:39 PM) Interestingting http://southside.locals.baseballprospectus...ar-it-all-down/ I agree with that for the most part. Bottom line is: situation hopeless. From the comments: Mark This is…bleak. Well written, but so bleak. July 29, 2016 at 8:12 am Mike Musary Thanks. It’s unfortunately the sad reality that the White Sox find themselves in. 7. way back in the good old days, when I was just a wee lad, before the days of carrying 10 relievers, you could have a 5th outfielder. That is what Avi should be.
  8. Since 1980 Name BB% WAR Garret Anderson 4.70% 24 Mark Grudzielan 4.80% 23.2 Frank White 4.90% 23.1 A.J. 9. So far he seems to hit exactly as one would expect from his minor league #s suggest. Upon casual observation his defense looks good enough to play SS. However, Stony was on B&B the other day and said the Sox should work him in CF as he didn't know if he could play SS. I dunno what Stony is seeing but he knows the game better than I do. His bat doesn't play in CF IMO.
  10. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 10:31 AM) however for once can they hire a guy with previous successful MLB managing experience? No way in hell. He'd want to bring in ALL his own staff/coaches. That doesn't play around these parts. Sox only hire desperate people. ------------ I predict Sale has a meltdown at some point calling somebody a naughty word again which will "force" the Sox to trade him (can't abide by insubordination). They will trade him for a youngish position player and a couple of prospects. Add a couple replacement FAs and be "all in" for 2017.
  11. Jon Heyman grades the teams at the trade deadline: 26. Chicago White Sox. Their sale was a dud, though there are worse things than keeping Sale and Quintana. As for the others, there was no evidence of a real market for David Robertson, the outfielders or even Todd Frazier. “Only moving Duke was surprising,” one rival said. “I’m not sure the market gets better in the offseason.” On the plus side, they did get Charlie Tilson, a speedy outfielder originally from the elite suburban public New Trier High (it draws from tiny Wilmette and Winnetka) that also produced GM Rick Hahn and many other luminaries (Charlton Heston, Rock Hudson and Ann-Margret). Though, it didn’t help that Tilson had to go on the DL one game into his Chisox career with a season-ending torn hamstring. Grade: D. http://www.todaysknuckleball.com/inside-ba...trade-deadline/
  12. QUOTE (shysocks @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) Is there anyone in their right mind who wants the Sox to sign a guy with a qualifying offer in 2017? Unfortunately the guys running the team, though I am not sure they are of right mind. There is no other way to "go for it" in 2017. On that chart of yours, each slot lower takes away .38 WAR on average. So the difference in 10 slots is 3.8WAR. not earth shattering, but not something to ignore either.
  13. Looking at some WAR leaders I noticed BBRef lists how they were acquired. Top 40 WAR leaders 27 acquired as amateurs by the org they are playing for 7 traded for 6 via free agency http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/...e-batting.shtml
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 02:08 PM) Puig's OPS is about .030 better than Avi's. The Dodgers are going to have to eat some cash or take on some unwanted contract to move him. LOL. career .830 vs .690
  15. nobody will claim shields. no way in hell.
  16. Damn HeGone, you really hit it out of the park with that post. Somebody needs to print that out and shove it into JRs hands.
  17. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) However, I think there's little evidence to suggest that having a marginally higher pick in the draft is how certain teams have built winners recently. Do you disagree? If they get the #10 slot, they won't forfeit the pick when they sign a free agent. If they get #11 they will. Big difference.
  18. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 09:57 AM) Are you sure about this? How much worse can this organization get when you think holisitcally about the state of things today? The team is at the bottom of the league in attendance and TV ratings. The farm system is in the bottom five in all of baseball. Four losing seasons in a row which matches the longest streak in the team's history. Only one playoff appearance and playoff win in over a decade now. A management team whose credibility is increasingly being questioned in the media. What does "rock bottom" look like in comparison to all of this? Maybe they can make a nice swimming lake at the bottom of the limestone quarry.
  19. QUOTE (spiderman @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 08:48 PM) What happened to him? Serious injury? pulled hammy trying to chase down a fly ball. looked worse than that though. wouldn't be surprised of he tore something.
  20. Shields 26 batters faced, one K. how is that even possible?
  21. Sox say Tilson strained hamstring to be evaluated tomorrow. fingers crossed.
  22. Danish got DL'd. Collins 0-3 3Ks so far. That concussion must have been somewhat serious.
  23. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 07:57 PM) What happened to Tilson and how bad did it look? looked like he tried to change directions at last second trying to run down a deep drive. knee/leg gave out on him. ankle twisted. looked pretty bad. best case no surgery but I doubt it.
