yeah and hundreds who will be and dozens who will be stars. just nobody knows which are which when they are 18 years old.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 03:35 PM) If guys like Tatis aren't going to become major leaguers, it isn't a bad thing to turn them into actual major leaguers. That is everyone else's point. Why are they signing guys who won't become major leaguers?
-
Greenie and I and the other malcontents are not quibbling over Tatis, per se. we are complaining about constantly trading young guys for over-the-hill bums.
-
theoretically it would give you two all-stars at the same time that you have developed/acquired some decent talent around them. 2 all-stars aren't doing the Sox any good RIGHT NOW because the rest of the roster is so bad.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 03:07 PM) He was assuming what the team was going to do, and that it was going to be the worst case scenario. Which, according to history, is a pretty good assumption.

I understand how the draft works OK, I'm just making a point. You don't pony out $700K to a 16 year old unless you think the guy *might* turn into something special.
-
well the Sox valued him ($700,000) the same as our #7 prospect curbelo.
-
All you have to know is the Sox gave him $700K to sign which is a boatload for this org.
-
Lot of people thought that was a dumb trade at the time and even more do now, so don't try to bully Greenie.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 01:29 PM) Quintana to the Pirates in a trade centered around Austin Meadows. In addition to Meadows the Sox get back either Tyler Glasnow or Mitch Keller, Ke'Bryan Hayes and the comp pick they'll get for losing Liriano. I have always been really big on Austin Meadows, he can hit for a high average, has very good plate discipline and projects to be an above average defender in CF, although I do like him better in LF because his arm from the outfield is average at best. At 6'3 200lbs, MLB Pipeline has as a 60 runner and he is learning to tap into his power. I've been thinking the same as you but don't see how Pirates can be aggressive buyers given their situation.

Anthony Ranaudo starting vs. Cubs on Wednesday
Hatchetman replied to Ducksnort's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well Fulmer is certainly more deserving of an MLB roster spot from what we saw last night. -
You are right. Especially after what he has done this year I'd be ecstatic. He was 25th in MLB OPS last year. Let's throw a party.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 01:01 PM) He's not wrong in that there will be people criticizing the front office no matter what happens. I can't wait to read all the posts about all the great packages the Sox delusionally passed up if/when Sale isn't traded this week. There are hundreds of people who post here. There will be all sorts of opinions.

I agree everyone would be "fine."
-
hold up now. are we really comparing Abreu to Frank Thomas? LOL. Abreu could be 37 years old for all we know. He's had one good year in the majors. Expecting him to repeat 2014 looks less and less likely with every passing month.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 11:58 AM) Of course they are going to do it their way. Do you do everything everyone else's way? The problem is, there is no way the White Sox can win with most unless they come up with all these prospects people think teams are more than willing to give up to get him. If they trade him for less, they screwed up. If they don't trade him, it will be these guys were clearly available and they blew it. There has already been talk they waited too long and blew it. You are hilarious. Already defending the front office for what they may or may not do.

when Melky is your best hitter, you have major problems.

QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 11:14 AM) The Sox aren't gonna move Sale or Q. This FO only knows how to do one thing and that is rebuild on the fly. It's very difficult to teach an old dog any new tricks. The Sox will bring back the same core next year and try to dumpster dive again in the offseason with veterans to fill CF, C, and DH. That is certainly what history would suggest.

The Top 30 White Sox Prospects, Midseason 2016

OK, on Fulmer. I'm no scout or pro evaluator I admit. But probably the biggest game of his life....fastball 91-92? what the hell? I understand being all over the place with control, but you'd think he'd be overthrowing, not trying to throw darts. -

So Fulmer has bad mechanics, poor control, and his fastball tops out at 92. Why did they draft him again? -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 08:50 AM) Hayes isn't really (still) a propect at this point... Why not? -
Her latest album is pretty good if you like pure pop.
-
I would consider offering Frazier an extension if he is interested. He's better than our usual 3B disasters.

would you rather have Call or Coats? What's the downside with Danny Hayes? One of the few guys we have with decent plate discipline. -
