  1. Sox are thin at talent everywhere. Supposedly the minors are improving but I don't see much sign of it.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 30, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) The k rate is fine if you do other things. Davidson hadn't. This year he is doing a bit better, but it is his 4th season in AAA. I don't know what was very positive about Matt Davidson and his bat the previous 2 seasons in Charlotte. It would be a miracle if he could contribute. This exactly. He could be OK against lefties, but how many of them do you face?
  3. A guy I have kept on eye on is Mendick, mostly because he doesn't strike out at an alarming rate. Would guess he could be a utility guy if teams still kept those.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 11:49 AM) The player we would hope to get is compared to Brett Gardner and that's exciting? Exactly. You don't take a #1 overall hoping for Brett Gardner.
  5. I'm guessing he has the wrong link: http://www.southsidesox.com/2016/6/20/1197...-jerry-its-over
  6. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/james-shiel...up-for-a-while/ Fangraphs article on Shields. Not too cheery.
  7. what's going on with the TV deal? Is that why he's trying to keep fan interest at least tepid?
  8. Hahn just does what he is told. He's a lawyer turned contract negotiator turned GM. There is no evidence that he actually knows anything about baseball talent evaluation.
  9. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 11:49 AM) The problem with this approach is that by the time the kids you draft and sign as foreign free agents are going to be ready to contribute, your good players are going to be FA's. So it is either move them now when they have a lot of value or roll the dice at being able to re-sign them and if you can't there is a risk that they will walk away and you get nothing in return with the impending CBA negotiations. And there's your answer. It likely doesn't matter what they do because they are incompetent at any front office skill.
  10. Jeff Liefer - please drop by when you can. anyone who played minor league ball knows a hell of a lot more than most of us. maybe change your name and go incognito.
  11. Davidson was ranked the 80th best prospect in MLB in 2014. Nice, but no "can't miss" type.
  12. Sox minor league teams went 0-5 today and are now a combined 51 games under .500. Fulmer got rocked again today.
  13. where the hell are you going to get players if you don't draft and develop them? nobody can afford to buy FAs to fill an entire roster. nobody can win every trade to make chicken salad out of chicken s***, especially not the Sox. They are the ones who get fleeced on most of the trades.
  14. The excuses come from the front office for why they suck every year.
  15. Steverson must have compromising photos of someone.
  16. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 17, 2016 -> 08:34 PM) Trayce Thompson's hard crash back to Earth the wa?
  17. i don't know how Quintana can keep his mouth shut about his team not scoring for him. he must be a saint.
  18. If the others are limited partners he doesn't need majority equity to do whatever he wants.
  19. Remember that taco stand in old Comiskey? I wonder what happened to those guys.
  20. search was less than 5 innings, more than 6 runs each. don't know if it is accurate, just what baseball reference spit out.
  21. looks like maybe the worst 3 game stretch since 1950. And Sox have 3 of the worst 5! Rk Name Games IP H R ER ▾ BB SO HR ERA 1 James Shields 3 9.2 25 24 23 10 4 6 21.41 2 Jeremy Bonderman 3 13 24 23 23 7 4 6 15.92 3 Jeff Samardzija 3 15.1 23 22 22 6 9 5 12.91 4 Felipe Paulino 3 13 28 22 22 10 8 6 15.23 5 Sean O'Sullivan 3 14.2 30 19 18 3 8 6 11.05
  22. hopefully Anderson is half the hitter and twice the fielder.
  23. I have no interest in rooting for a woman beater. Anderson is better anyway.
