  1. We are stuck with LaRoche unless we deal him for another bad contract.
  2. I'd take a sniff and see. Even though he's not that great a hitter, our DH's are historically so bad he could help out there too.
  3. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 09:52 AM) I'm not looking to trade any of them. SP is a strength, but the "depth" is overstated, IMO. Sale is elite, Quintana is a great #2, Rodon is a 3 with big upside, Danks is an overpaid #5 man in our #4 hole, and Johnson is a 4/5 with the upside of a 3. Behind that, we have Fulmer and some prospects that certainly have upside but that look like they are most likely going to be relievers. 1. You cannot assume Fulmer is ready as quickly as Rodon was, and even if you DO, you have to remember that Rodon pitched like a back-end guy most of the season. 2. If you remove Quintana from that #2 slot due to a trade, the whole thing suddenly looks very shaky. I think Rodon will become a strong #2 at some point, but it's very much a question mark if that happens this year -- he still struggle with command frequently and control almost as often, and he needs to learn to trust his fastball. And until he does learn to trust his fastball, we're not going to know if it has enough movement to be a big pitch. If it doesn't his control suddenly has to get really good. He's got work to do. 3. Remove ANY of them for a significant injury -- even Danks -- and you're in trouble quickly. You could argue we need to ADD a starter or two, at least of the "one-year pillow contract" type. My thoughts exactly. SP strength can go to weakness in a big hurry.
  4. Nobody's complaining, but I find it kind of surprising someone with his lack of success and injury history would be worthy of a spot on the 40-man roster.
  5. Can't figure this one. 9th overall pick in 2009 but has never been remotely good. like buying a lottery ticket I guess.
  6. These guys probably want 3 or 4 year deals to move their families, etc. Sox will get whoever's left when the music stops playing.
  7. I did not know Hostetler was originally a Sox scout. Now I am depressed. Thanks a lot guys.
  8. $68 million? That's chump change when you're talking Upton, Heyward, Cespedes.
  9. What's the highest $$ value contract the Sox have ever signed?
  10. This Steamer thing isn't projecting wins is it? Just WAR. Maybe we can make the playoffs with a 20 WAR team. You never know.
  11. Yes, I've mentioned it before. They're position players account for like 3 WAR if I recall.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 09:08 AM) strategies change with drafts, there shouldnt be a blanket strategy for every draft that is exactly my point. because a team went over/under on a pick means nothing in isolation about whether it was dumb/smart/cheap/aggressive, whatever.
  13. In the draft now you have a set amount of $$ to spend. so who cares if you go over/under on any one pick in particular as long as you use all the money you are able to.
  14. My daughter and I made some Halloween decorations this weekend: Unhappy Family
  15. I PREDICT.....Alexei will be back at SS, but the 2016 opening day 3B and 2B are not currently on the roster.
  16. QUOTE (bjm676 @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 12:11 PM) Frustration, Disappointment, Anger. So really, more of the same. LOL. Spoken like a Sox fan from birth.
  17. what's done is done. nobody reads the damn newspaper anymore anyway. just win some games.
  18. put them on a scrambled UHF station --- that way ownership can control their own message.
  19. 1994 was a freakin' tragedy. unbelievable that happened.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) What would it take for him to be considered inadequate? He's been the GM for the Robin Ventura era, except the season they won 85 games, who supposedly has shown all he is inadequate. Gave him an extension. Signed Jeff Keppinger, Belisario, thought Hector Noesi was a #4 starter, likes Avi Garcia, had Gillaspie and Micah starting on opening day, so apparently doesn't think much of defense. Still seems to think Tyler Flowers is a good idea. Blew $4 million on Bonifacio. Blew $4 million on Scott Downs, spent $25 million on LaRoche, the list goes on and on. Say it again Dick! Time for a major overhaul of the front office.
  21. Hey Dick, you're preaching to the choir, but taking a poll at Soxtalk isn't much more accurate.
