  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 05:16 PM) eh, not quite not quite what?
  2. His value is higher as a 3B. If he can play 3B and he looks to be a major leaguer, trade him or Fields.
  3. collins was the best fielder of his era along with being a fantastic base stealer. greatest 2B in history > greatest DH in history
  4. frank had 8600 plate appearances for the sox, collins 7400. that's close enough for comparison.
  5. QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 5, 2009 -> 12:33 PM) riggght WTF do I know? http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/...es-above-bench/
  6. 1. he wasn't the greatest player who ever played for the sox, that would be eddie collins 2. the sox should offer to let him play in charlotte if he wants to get in shape should another team be interested
  7. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 10:11 AM) Obviously lying to congress is a big deal especially if you're under oath, but how is lying to investigators (assuming you're not under oath) a crime? This doesn't make sense to me. what kind of question is that? a crime is a crime. its a law. they don't always make sense, although this one does to me.
  8. somebody post the projected individual performances so we can all get a laugh.
  9. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) "Manning up" only when caught is not "manning up" at all--its just saving your skin, and its motivated by the same greedy, selfish instincts that made him lie in the first place. http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=362...ce=search_video He's a liar and a cheater. That's not a "man" to me. Exactly right.
  10. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 09:02 PM) There are two sides to that story. There is no doubt there are a ton of idiots that call in. I deal with it every day. However, without them, B&B would have a totally different show. They welcome it, because it makes for good radio(or at least in their opinion it does). Goff and Abbatacolla welcome those "Orton is God" calls. They are the ones letting them pass though the screen, getting them on air. For every smart call they let on the air, they let 5 meatball calls on. The problem is there aren't as many meatball calls as you are lead to believe, but most make the air so they can do their shtick. I have assumed this for years. I think it's pretty lame actually.
  11. nobody cares about PED use now. half the league was/is using them.
  12. this debate would be a lot more interesting if he had gotten 135 more hits in his career.
  13. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 11:00 AM) No way, they both have said they dont have a problem with him. I listened to them the morning he was fired i'm positive i've heard hanley criticize him before. WSCR now has downloadable podcasts in case anyone is curious enough to go back an listen.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 12:56 PM) Pedro? I'd pass. Would be nice to occasionally get a big name guy at least remotely close to his prime and not 5 years afterward. dude, this is a sox forum. maybe you are confused.
  15. this seems kind of dubious since the most logical thing for him to do would be to throw in front of scouts to show his arm is ok.
  16. apparently he was on the score this morning, but i didn't hear it. Interesting b/c mully and hanley have ripped him on the air before.
  17. if he weren't a dh for most of his career, I think he would be worthy. but he was.
  18. just keep repeating, "everything will be fine." fields will hit 30 homers and play decent defense alexei will make the shift to SS and play just as well as cabrera getz will hit .280 and play solid D konerko will rebound to his 2006 performance AJ will catch 135 games, so we don't need a capable backup owens will have an OBP of .360 and steal 50 bases clayton richard's ERA of 6.00 didn't really show his true ability. #5 starters don't matter, everyone's #5 sucks. what's the worry?
  19. looks like a setup for the peavy deal.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 11:43 AM) Using a period over the strike year for any sort of attendance trend or comparison just doesn't mean anything. Anyway, bottom line is still that the Sox have a floor of somewhere in the low 20's in attendance for 2009. They won't be dropping off into oblivion. OK. let's go back the previous time the sox made the playoffs. after winning the division in 1983, attendance peaked in 84, which was third in the league. two years of suckitude later they had fallen down to 10th. Over the past 43 years, the sox have only had attendance in the upper half of the league 13 times. WE DO NOT DRAW UNLESS WE WIN! if the sox suck for a couple of years, we'll be right back at the bottom with a payroll of about $50 mil. of course we'll draw OK in 2009, most of the tickets are already sold.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 11:32 AM) Was that 3rd to 9th overall MLB attendance or just the American League? that is just the AL (14 teams).
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 10:53 AM) You cannot look at 93 to 95 attendence numbers in gross fashion like that - its ignoring a huge polluting factor, specifically the strike. ALL of baseball fell off. So, now, that drop (RELATIVE, 3rd to 9th) was not terribly dramatic. going from top quartile to bottom half is dramatic to me, but hey, whatever.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 10:32 AM) If attendance lags early for walk up sales, they will put back in the half price nights, family deals, etc which will always help numbers. The Sox have been through hard times with the team, the economy and the competition from the cubs and have always come out ok. What are you talking about, "always come out ok?" This team drew a paltry 1.3 million in 98 and 99. the team failed to hit 2 million from 1994-2004. We're already off 500,000 since 2006.
