Obsessed with (the lack of) Sox off-season moves?
Hatchetman replied to shipps's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 09:45 AM) Not a good example. The Sox won a pennant in 1993, then the strike happened (which effected some teams more than others), plus it was no longer a new stadium honeymoon. And a drop from 3rd to 9th isn't terribly dramatic anyway. A drop from 2.5 to 1.6 isn't terribly dramatic? The point is if you piss off the fans they will stop coming...in a hurry. And raising ticket prices, lowering payroll, and putting a sub-.500 team on the field is a pretty good way to piss of the fans. -

Our attendance can fall in a hurry. We went from 3rd in 1993 to 9th in 1995. -
Bradshaw's stats look bad by today's numbers, but they were good back in the day. For example 1977 he had seemingly a horrible passer rating of 71. But that was good for 7th best in the entire NFL.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 11:50 AM) Beekman doesn't suck. If you ask me, he was our best and most consistent OL this year. Garza and Kreutz significantly dropped off, St Clair had a solid first couple weeks but then he was awful, and Tait was terrible down the stretch. Beekman is going to get "stonewalled" a lot of times on run plays because of his size but when he gets leverage he is a pretty good OG. we can quibble but the entire o-line blows and beekman is hardly a building block type of guy.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) What do you do with the defense next year? So many of the big money players seemed to regress this year. Is is the coaching or the players? I dunno what the salary cap ramifications would be, but I would cut Urlacher, Harris, Ogunleye, and Vasher. That's $25 mil in salary for essentially replacement level guys.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 11:02 AM) Yes, this team needs another OG, but what are you basing this on? observation of his run blocking where he regularly gets stonewalled.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 10:31 AM) Really? Graham, Olsen, Forte, Beekman, Briggs, Payne, and Harrison all were impressive this year and, I believe, the only one who's 30 is Briggs, and the others are all 27 or younger. how many on an NFL roster? you named 7 guys. other than briggs and forte the best guy is our punter. Beekman sucks BTW. That entire O-Line sucks. Hopefully Williams can be decent.

this team is going to suck in the coming years. sooo many holes, terrible drafting, poor development.....

QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 03:09 PM) Depends on what the return would be for Paulie. Why trade Paulie, who turns 33 next season, and get Nomar, who turns 36 next season? Just doesn't make a whole ton of sense to me considering KW's youth movement. well, if you could get nomar for like 1 year $5 mil that would save quite a bit of dough. I'm assuming dye and konerko are gone, neither of whom have been linked to bringing in a 1B. they'd have to find one off the scrap heap. not much out there. -

if we could unload paulie, maybe we could get nomar real cheap to play 1B? -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 10:01 AM) OBP machine? He's got a .337 career OBP and hasn't been able to match that the past 4 seasons. well, the machine is worn out. -
maybe pitchers knew they were going to go 8-9 innings no matter what, so they paced themselves. now they just go ballz to the wallz all on every pitch. (probably b/c half the hitters have been juiced for the last 15 years. )

QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 22, 2008 -> 10:04 AM) And my comments were simply intended to point out that comparing Marquez to Grilli, Masset, and Glover was silly. grilli was BA's #54 prospect in 1998

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 08:56 AM) He can join in the proud tradition of Sox standouts Wil Cordero and Albert Belle. Don't forget slammin' Sammy. -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 10:18 AM) Didn't the Twins hit something like, 323 with runners in scoring position? Now, that's luck. .302 vs .277 for us.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 09:02 AM) http://www.ajc.com/blogs/content/shared-bl...y_be_happy.html Good article in AJC about why the Braves were fortunate NOT to end up with Furcal. Also a pointed shot at Wren for trading Vazquez for Flowers. what exactly was interesting about that article?

furcal would've been a great signing. 3 years $33 mil. oh well.

Former Astros/Cubs pitcher Dave Smith dead at 53

dude was a major alcoholic back in the day...his face was all ruddy and bloated looking. -
QUOTE (Felix @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 01:25 PM) Incorrect. When you have a runner on first and no outs, you are expected (based on empirical data from 1999 to 2002) to score .953 runs. That number drops to .725 with a runner on second and one out. Simply said, you are more likely to score with a runner on first and no outs than you are with a runner on second and one out. in a bunt situation you may only need one run. your data doesn't tell you which strategy has the highest probability of scoring exactly one run.

I thought they finally lernt their lesson using s*** for backup C so they went out and spent the big $$$ on Hall.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) Alot of players are going to take massive pay cuts including Joe Crede. Well, his back is like hamburger so that's his main problem.
