  1. i miss the ole ron schuler reclamation projects...sabo, kruk, devereaux, magrane, hammaker, righetti, etc, etc.
  2. wait, in that post you compared us to the teams that have won 4 of the last 8 championships. we haven't won a playoff series in 85 years. I wouldn't care if we finished in last place for 25 years if it meant a championship. the brewers and expos will be under new ownership shortly and will certainly be better run. detroit has moved into our "league" of competitiveness. we're better than the D-Rays and Pirates, I'll give you that. royals too. i don't want to argue with you b/c we're both stuck in our views, but i can't let impressionable youths see your post and not hear the other side.
  3. i'd rather have gibbons. he's a lefty and should come cheaply. younger too.
  4. on the radio KW said he'd be a setup man and close some games. he's not considering him as a starter but said that could change during the year should they need another starter. seems like a lot of dough (relatively) compared to the contract that Politte got last year. we need all the relievers we can get so i hope he isn't the only acquisition.
  5. KW was just speechless when Boers said, "will you join us after the Jermaine Dye signing is announced?" Dead silence and then they all started laughing.
  6. I think he'd scoff at you.
  7. He's a natural born hitter. Five years from now, he'll still be hitting like crazy.
  8. i think this thread should be closed and erased from the computer memory banks.
  9. people say burnitz's stats are padded by coors. but our park is almost as bad. he'll be 36. i'd take him for one year.
  10. Dye really hasn't been an above average RF since 1999-2000. Looking at the past 3-4 seasons (throwing out his horrible injury plagued one), he's about a .330 OBP, .460 SLG type of hitter. OK for a stop-gap, but not someone to commit to for 3 years, IMO.
  11. it seems like the price of doing business has increased this offseason.
  12. MoS- I agree with you 100%. But i'd rather overpay for something other than an old broken down RF on the downside of his career.
  13. I was a proponent of signing Dye, but I had in mind a one year deal. No way in hell would I give him a 3 year deal unless it was for like $2 mil/per.
  14. ok. i thought we had a lot more than 53 million tied up. (discounting PK)
  15. i wouldn't complain about signing pedro, but he's not the 20-6, 1.90 ERA Pedro anymore. More like 16-10 3.50 ERA. As long as KW knows what he's getting.
  16. explain the math. i thought plan A was (RJ-Konerko)+(vizquel)=16-8+5=13
  17. didn't plan A include unloading Konerko's salary?
  18. brett boone kevin brown lenny dykstra clemens maybe
  19. well, that doesn't sound too promising.
  20. in any line of work you're evaluated on results, not good intentions. edit: but as I've said before, KW has a job for as long as JR is around. he does what he's told, speaks well to the media, does a halfway decent job. i'd be interested to see what he could do with a $90 million payroll.
  21. i would say OG should be on the hot seat if after four years he has accomplished nothing. don't you have higher expectations? KW certainly isn't the worst GM but he aint the best either. if they don't make the playoffs once in 5 years in the weakest division in baseball, how could anyone with a straight face say KW doesn't deserve to be replaced? excuse me for not being happy with mediocrity.
  22. he keeps his gms (baseball&basketball) for a looong time. hawk & schuler quit on their own. he hated himes personally for some reason. krause was gm for like 18 years. KW isn't completely incompetent. did he fire roland hemond?
  23. as an aside I think KW has the job for life if he wants it. JR's life that is.
