  1. "I think we need to get another guy or someone has to grow into that set-up role that occasionally closes, for us to be good down there," Williams said. In other words, the Sox want a Tom Gordon-type who can set up and close.
  2. i'd say the red sox and cards have about 5 difference makers each. we might have 2.
  3. one would expect milton to get better a full year after the arm surgery. you never know though. he'd be great if he could cut the gopher balls in half.
  4. damn! that's worse than eric young (6 in 149)
  5. After the emotions settle down, I don't think the yanks will trade him. They need pitching and he's a good pitcher.
  6. when's the last time the twins outbid anyone for a FA?
  7. plus he has a better chance of stealing off a RHP
  8. well, that's normally how it works. 9 hitters versus 8.
  9. yeah, but i think the cards have the best lineup in baseball since they added walker. they led the NL in runs, .6 runs above league average. we were 3rd in the AL, about .3 runs above average. too bad our pitching staff gave up the most gopher balls.
  10. i know it's not about speed. can you give me some examples of players who learned to become good basestealers (40+ sb's)?
  11. that would be a "premium" service I suppose. would that give you all games or just one team.??
  12. we were almost last in SB, last in CS....so i see the idea. but personally, i don't think you can teach someone how to steal a base. anyone know of any examples of someone learning to steal bases?
  13. hope they didn't use the same mechanic that fixed the flaw in contreras' delivery.
  14. guys that pique my interest polanco (he's gonna get a huge payday) olmedo saenz (press crede a bit - actually could be better) hollandsworth (a much better timo) chad fox (not sure when he'd be ready)
  15. i really think you are overestimating EY's defensive capabilities. he sucked when he played for the cubs. regardless, his OBP last year was WAY above what it was the previous 3 years. fluke? did he learn a new skill? i dunno, but i wouldn't count on it again. grieve had a ops+ of 106 last year....strictly in a platoon situation. think about a lefty of'er who only hits against righties. you should have an ops of at least 120..a matt stairs or dan pasqua type. but yes, he would be better than timo. unfortunately kw has pretty much said timo will be back. at 150 AB's or less they would be fine.
  16. i did look at the numbers closely. even examined their splits cuz i was giving cheat the benefit of the doubt. i just don't see any value there.
  17. man, you've been a sox fan too long...offseason wishes consisting of eric young and ben grieve. jesus man. EY is horrible at 2B. he only played 20 games there. 38 years old. holy christ, kill me now. one of those top three pitchers you mentioned would be nice.
  18. you need to shop at target AND bloomingdales to get what you need. i'd be pleasantly surprised if we signed a pavano/radke-type of pitcher. like i mentioned before it's been 8 years since we signed a significant FA in the offseason.
  19. well, to be fair, they only signed shingo and uribe in the winter (and politte). they turned out be good moves, but: 1. they didn't make the team significantly better, and 2. they generated no interest among potential customers.
  20. bob wickman's option wasn't picked up either. i wouldn't mind him. he keeps the ball in the park.
  21. he prolly won't be offered arbitration unless they can deal him to someone else.
