  1. You have to assume he's not going to improve. Now if he's your #8 or #9 hitter, you can deal with that, especially since he's so cheap. This team needs to make some changes, however. Except for that one big home run year in AAA, his minor league stats never suggested to me he'd be a star. (though he did win a couple league mvps - not that those mean a hell of a lot).
  2. Look, I don't mind having the guy. We ignore the depth issue every year and it bites us every time. But if this would be our "major" improvement, I'd be rather disappointed to say the least. The planning horizon for this team for the last 4 years has been one year, f*** the future... How goddam bad do we have to get before they wake up and realize this team needs major changes?
  3. Take an average of his last four years and then account for him being 38 and make an educated guess as to his level of production. He's not a difference maker and that's what we need. I don't see him being much better than Uribe.
  4. I don't want any stopgaps. This team needs more. You want to compete with Minnesota and Cleveland with guys like 40 year-old Vizquel? This team needs a major talent infusion, not a 40 year old SS who's going to hit .270, no power, no speed, no OBP....
  5. I think his career was a mild disappointment. Two time minor league POY. Came up as a rookie and won ROY AND his only gold glove. Had the major knee injury and then tons of injuries thereafter. Never had 500 AB's in a season. Showed what kind of talent he had in 1997 when he hit .324 and 21 homers. Lifetime OPS+ of 89.
  6. i like those ideas especially mota.
  7. Oh, i see. cool. good luck.
  8. Baseball is unpredictable. That's why it's silly to expect him to improve. He's got over 1000 major league at bats. He's 26. Lacks plate discipline. I just don't see any logical reason why he would substantially improve. I hope he does....
  9. Crede is like Garland. They are what they are. Eagerly awaiting major improvements is a waste of time.
  10. Why are you using 75%? That's a debatable value to begin with. Secondly, it is a rough number to evaluate the average of all situations. The true value changes from pitch to pitch throughout the game. Tie game bottom of ninth, one out, the value would be closer to 40%.
  11. well, he's losing his morning show. i don't know if they'll put him somewhere else.
  12. Sox don't usually call many guys up. Don't know why...cheap I guess.
  13. I have a split personality regarding prospects. The optimist thinks a guy like Stewart could be crafty lefty type, the realist says guys that don't dominate the minors won't amount to anything in the majors. How many crafty lefties started out that way?
  14. Look, we've given up a million prospects over the past 3 years. What's a few more? We need help more than ever now. Has KW suddenly changed his philosophy?
  15. I don't know about you but watching the Sox lose is no fun at all. Maybe I have the wrong attitude. Things are not looking good right now. They still have a chance, but I wouldn't put any money on it.
  16. munoz was a surprise turned into a major disappointment. usually there's some guy who's cruised under the radar who turns it up at AA or AAA. I don't know if anyone's done that this year. Diaz was doing it for a while.
  17. i'd rather gamble on hairston. he can play 2B. good stolen base guy.
  18. I don't like his approach. He's way too tentative up there. The Sox and he need to realize that he's going to strike out 175+ times a year. Just let er rip. Look for mistakes on the inner half. If he could hit .240 and hit 25 homers and play a decent CF, he'd be worth giving a regular job. He reminds me of cory snyder when hrniak tried to alter his approach to hitting. Looked completely helpless.
  19. woah, i said i liked simon, but i didn't mean as a full time player. i mean bench, pinch hitter type.
  20. I like simon because he can make contact with a little power. Who would we release? He's pretty much limited to 1B.
