BTW, the minors are in much better shape now then they were in the mid-80s. Mike Bertotti, Tom Drees, Aubrey Waggoner, Joel Davis, Russ Mormon, Tony Menendez, Grady Hall.
• Is the White Sox' contract extension offer still on the table?
According to one source it is.
But only time will tell if Ordonez accepts the original deal or still tries testing the free-agent market at the end of the season.
The original deal was reported to be 5 years, $70 million. That is what I'm talking about. If that deal is on the table RIGHT NOW, the Sox are crazy. I seriously doubt that it is...
Of course I'd sign him to a one year contract if possible. I have no idea how this will play out because Ordonez already turned down a terrific offer. Maybe he doesn't want to play here anymore.
Most of these guys are 2-3 years from getting to the majors. Then another couple of years before they could be considered solid players. That's 5-6 years from now. Who the hell is going to be on this team in the mean time?
I don't believe you can survive by consistently dealing prospects for vets over the long haul. It's just the sheer number of guys we've given up over the past few years....
He's only going to sign if he believes he's getting "fair market value." Assuming he's going to get "fair market value", it doesn't matter when we sign him. He gets it all the same.
..when evaluating the trade. We've got him for half a season. At the end of the season we have the chance to sign him just like every other team. If we had not traded for him, we'd still have the chance to sign him to a long term deal.
There was some interesting stuff said in regards to Boston and New York. KW said those teams can draft the best talent and not worry about the money it takes to sign them. And they have extensive international scouting systems and have money to sign foreign (non-latin) talent.
Wonder who he's comparing them to?
If you've been a fan of this team for any amonut of time and don't feel the need to rant every now and again, you're nuts. Let the guy say what he wants. Why do people feel the need to control what other people say/feel?
