I don’t think this team is much better just because of Sizemore over Grifol.  The players may not be as depressed as they were playing for Grifol but it’s still a talent issue.  Just look at how putrid the lineup and pitching staff are.  Sizemore can’t work miracles.

Sure it's still a talent issue, but it was a talent issue WITH guys just going through the motions and lifeless. Made it far worse than it needed to be.

Hey man let’s just keep hiring the unqualified cheap guys.  Maybe there is something to it, as it has worked so well for us up til now

What available qualified guy would you like that is out there? Francona?

Is there a path where Grady is considered for manager beyond this season?

He’s in his 40s.  Learned to play from the old guard but isn’t the old guard.

If the players like him and play hard then all my boxes are checked.

I’m interested in Sox baseball again, just a tiny bit, so maybe there’s something to this.

I think if they win at a more "regular" (not over .500 or anything) clip and play with some actual passion and aggressiveness maybe they'd keep him around. I know Getz said what they are looking for, but I guess that could always change.

    Comments after last night's game:

I really like Baldwin and Lee.  They can only get better next year.

Grady Sizemore with his curly mullet might turn out to be the permanent solution.

Gavin Sheets should play more 1st base and Vaughn should be traded in the off season.

The Lenyn Sosa experiment should end now.

Nicky Lopez looks energized playing shortstop and has played surprisingly well.

I don't think either of them are around next year.

To the shock of no one, the Sox make a managerial change and the team starts playing better. Maybe if they had done this months ago we would only be looking at a bad season and not a historically bad season. Just add it to the list of bad decisions this franchise keeps making.

I truly think that. I think it's a bad team that Pedro Grifol made far worse.

Baldwin has sneaky power. Could easily be a 15-20 homer per year kind of guy. Of all the rookie position players they’ve played this season he’s been the most impressive imo.

I don’t think he’s looked super overmatched. Just gotta lay off some stuff.

Elko's college numbers, while not at Vaughn's 1200-1300 OPS level, were certainly the equal of early round picks Burger and  Sheets.  That he Elko was drafted so low suggests that there was something "missing" (bat speed?  just guessing).  Any idea whether what was missing has been found and whether he's a legit prospect or a AAAA guy?

Guess we will find out next year? At least I hope.

Gavin Sheets hasn’t hit a homer in 2 1/2 months, and only has 6 doubles during that time. I don’t understand why he is on the roster, but if he must play, does he have to hit in the middle of the order?

He should be gone tomorrow and Colas or Deloach should be up.

I know people don't like the "eye test"  but after going to my first game in two years I'm not liking what I see from Vargas.  His body language just says it all. His posture at the plate, on the bases, and on the field just screams "lazy" to me.  He's not a ballplayer, he's just a talented player without a clue how to play the game.  Kinda like Moncada and Robert two other Sox busts.

Interesting to point out only those 3.

No. The Vargus trade is a real head scratcher. He was a DFA candidate with all the injured Dodgers coming back. So, we give up Fedde, Pham and Kopech for him and 2 A-Ballers.

He was not a DFA candidate wtf are you talking about?

    Greenberg with some interesting information:

"He made scores of mistakes — strategic, interpersonal and inspirational. He was Baseball Jim Boylen, which is a uniquely Reinsdorfian, Chicago sobriquet to describe a coach. To put it in purely South Side terms, Grifol was the worst Sox manager since Terry Bevington.

This year, it was no secret to those around the team, or the game, that Getz wasn’t enamored with his manager.

Behind closed doors, the two sparred during the season over player usage, a disconnect that was understandable. Getz’s focus was keeping guys healthy for the trade deadline. Grifol was trying to win games to save his job and his reputation."

Wonder what guy was the main fight over player usage?

This guy isn’t an ace.  He’s a decent pitcher who had one good half season.  They got an underwhelming return for Cease and it will be worse for Crochet.

Well if he is a decent pitcher who only had one good half season and isn't an ace, how could the return be underwhelming?
