Not only wasn’t he fired, but Getz is such a coward he didn’t travel with the team to answer questions from the press. He might be a worse GM than Pedro is a manager.
Does he normally go on every road trip?

So why wasn’t he fired yesterday?

Kjerstad was already putting up a .790 OPS.
And Eloy's is the Guaranteed Rate logo at this point.

Good luck …he can’t hit over 4 seasons of chances.
Neither can Eloy.

to the IL after 45 innings with a 90mph fastball? no wonder the yanks and padres gave up on him so quickly. Pros prob told them about something funky in his delivery that's adding extra stress to his arm.
oh well. worst case, he didn't project to be higher than a #3 anyways. Shut him down, teach him how to throw correctly, and hope for a better 2025.
Well, he threw a lot more than 45 innings this year.

I believe fathom was also referring to Thorpe’s bad past two starts and Zavala and Berroa also disappointing in the minors.
Weird he had two bad starts in a row and is now hurt. Probably not related, though. Surely.

Since the Sox are so horrid and there's nothing to talk about, would somebody open a thread and daily update us on Pham and Fedde and Eloy and DeBong and their daily performances and how they are doing? Thank u.
They are all dead to me.

This is also why I'm not that mad about not signing pitchers to long term deals. Keep them when they are young and cheap and treat them like running backs in the NFL.

The Cease trade is getting worse on a daily basis
Yeah he should have known he was going to need Tommy John surgery at the end of the season.

I'd have to look on the website somewhere when I get a minute but yes I was aware of it as well.
That it was the Sox doing it/showing up to be there?

First Kopech, then Crochet, now Thorpe. Sox love TJS obliterating early years of control. They need to sacrifice a goat or something to change the luck.
It's a pretty big issue around the league as a whole.

What types of staffers do the Sox usually send to those clinics?
What a disgrace.
I've always been curious about this, too. Do they just send someone from the Bull/Sox academy who wears a jersey?

They'll get swept this weekend, fire Grifol, and win the first game against the A's.

So the Sox rushed him back, and then crapped on him for being lazy. This is the same thing they are doing to Yoan.
Both can be true. That they rushed him back and he is lazy.

I apparently can not read. In my defense BP on a phone is not great to look at.

The first part of that tweet is clickbait.
I don't know anything about Keaschall. Is he definitely better than Vargas?
His numbers look pretty good but he hasn't been past high A.

I voted Sizemore because that's who I would want, but it should probably be Montoyo because who gives a s%*# about him or his future? So let him see this awfulness until the end.

Perhaps Jerry looked at other teams who've went through incredible stretches of losing such as Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Oakland, Detroit and felt the backlash wouldn't be that bad
Chicago (and it's media market) aren't any of those cities
Check out twitter, this team is getting absolutely destroyed. Has a major media market ever dealt with anything like this before?
You think he looks or cares about any of that? He should because of his new tv network, but I don’t think he does.

I get that viewpoint, but Grifol took an 81-81 team and made them a 101 loss team. This team should lose 100, it’s gonna lose 120. At some point you do have to limit the damage.
This is where I’m at. It’s a bad team the last two years that he is making significantly worse.

Yeah, it will come back down. Hopefully his random blowups are more to do with being a rookie than his 91-93 MPH fastball. He can improve his pitching strategy going forward, but not really his fastball velocity.
I'm not super worried yet. I think he just needs to locate and sequence better. Both seem improvable.

Today might be the funniest lineup I've ever seen.

While this is accurate on July 31st, 2024, I don't believe it will be on July 31st, 2026.
They won 101 games last season, won the division and made the playoffs.
This season, they are still in 1st place in the AL East, and will almost certainly make the playoffs. At that point, they have matched what the Sox "rebuild" did, and if they win a playoff series, then they already topped it.
They also are anchored by two of the best players in the league, which is something the Sox never had. Lastly, when the 2024 MLB Draft took place earlier this month, USA Today and Fan Graphs ranked the O's having the best farm system in baseball. Something the Sox could never boast during their short "window" of contention.
They are set up much differently than the Sox were.
Yeah I am sure it will be more successful overall, but to call it successful already would mean you'd have to think the Sox one was successful. Which we know it wasn't. So I'm not claiming it on the Astros level quite yet. Might never get there.

Fire Grifol tomorrow. Lopez can stay on the team I guess, but he starts once a week. Benintendi is benched. Sheets is let go. Bring up Colas and your outfield Fletcher/Robert/Colas everyday. Infield is Vargas/Baldwin/Sosa/Vaughn
Crochet pitches no more than 4 innings and gets piggybacked by Nastrini or something.

The two biggest rebuild success stories of the last decade were the Astros and the Orioles. Neither was built through selling off veterans.
now the White Sox rebuild, which lasted two years, was maybe 65%-70% via selling veterans.
even teams that are good traders, don’t really do it through top 100 players. They just scout better than the other team and they have a system that they can fit players into.Orioles rebuild thus far hasn't really done anything that ours didn't do.
