  1. Vargas also produced at every minor league stop. You get player B and then he goes through the same struggles when and if he gets to MLB. I don’t see the big advantage there compared to Vargas, having been significantly higher rated to begin with, already in the majors and having gone through the adjustment period. This year Vargas has an .440 OBP and over 1.000 OPS at AAA and 107+ OPS at MLB level. He’s been over .400 OBP each of last three years. I don’t see how someone like Starlyn Caba would be preferable just because the don’t yet have 350 mlb PA. Sure the extra year is a consideration but seems to me like there’s a significant gap between Vargas and guys ranked closer to 75-100 at the moment. None of those guys have come close to “producing at every level” compared to Vargas
  2. I don’t see what that has to do with the question of Vargas’ value vs. a current lower top 100 infield prospect, but OK
  3. So if the Sox trade Fedde for a top 100 prospect who hasn’t yet struggled through his first 350 PA, that would have been good, but getting a guy who a year ago was ranked in 30-40 range is a fail? He was rated a 65/55 bat a year ago whereas infielders currently rated in lower part of top 100 would be like a 55/50 bat at best
  4. Vargas was rated in top 40 a year ago with a 65/55 bat
  5. Well yeah it doesn’t look great, but depends on how good Vargas actually is. If he is a high obp infielder with power, the Sox obviously can use that
  6. If Vargas is an above average starting infielder over the next five years, then this will have been a pretty good trade, in my opinion. Don’t really know how good Vargas is, so it’s hard to say at this juncture. Looking at the secondary pieces, their rankings are pretty disappointing, but at least they are high OBP type guys and I suspect Perez may be currently underrated. Getz has obviously put an emphasis on acquiring prospects with advanced on base skills at their age, which is good
  7. I just want to point out I predicted Kopech as a member of the Dodgers’ rotation by 2026 on a couple occasions a few months ago. Not sure how to search the forum in order to prove it, but I hope it is duly noted nonetheless
  8. Yeah but he was a top 40 prospect last year, and he’s had over .400 OBP each of last three years in minors. What bothers me is that he has hair on one side of his head but not the other, in his baseball ref pic. I mean, what the H?
  9. Yeah it seems like there should be a prospect coming from the cardinals. Are we sure we have the final trade info
  10. Sox lineup going to expose Woo as a bunch of woo today. His low walk rate will be of no use, since every average pitcher can put up a low walk rate against the Sox. Woo doesn’t make it out of the fourth. Dejong bombs and Sheets eats Woo’s dinner
  11. Sacks just filling up with Seaman tonight, boys
  12. The upside is greater with Robert but I’d rather put my money on Arozarena actually producing over 150 games a year, so it kind of evens out in my mind. This is somewhat concerning return relative to Robert imo. Hopefully if Getz doesn’t get an A/A- return, he just holds. Don’t get why Rays even made this move
  13. That seems like a very light return. Arozarena hasn’t exactly been tearing it up this year, but he’s still been well above average overall the last few years with 2 more years of control
  14. Not sure how McGwire was a failure as a hitting coach
  15. I think Fedde might be able to command a better prospect than either of those guys, given that there are nine teams within 1 game of the WC or better in the NL and seven in AL, plus the Mariners and possibly Rangers in contention for Western division. So at least 18 teams possibly in market. There’s not enough Fedde caliber starting pitchers to go around considering the numbers of inferior ones on those teams. A package of B prospects would be ok, but given the budget value of his deal in a seller’s market, just hope sox really maximize this trade. Probably need to trade Crochet first to do that, so teams can’t use Fedde as a fall back position anymore
  16. Because they currently have Christian Pache and Weston Wilson on the roster
  17. I’d rather just eat Benintendi for three years than drive down the return. Sox have to knock any trade of Crochet, Robert or Fedde if not out of the park, at least into the gap
  18. Hopefully, because a Jones headliner isn’t worth either of them
  19. Pretty sure he’d still be the manager of the Guardians if he were interested in managing
  20. No clue what you’re talking about
  21. I honestly thought back in december that there was no way Sheets would be on the OD roster
