I’m guessing the 30% of major leaguers who earn their bread pitching in relief wouldn’t be too thrilled with this proposal
-
I kind of agree. Either go back to having the best two teams in each league face off straight away in the league championship, or reduce the season and go hogwild on playoffs. What’s the point of a 162 game season when you can lose to a team that you were twenty games better than in that massive marathon of a season. You’d think 162 games would be enough to determine a 105 win team was better than an 85 win team. If you’re going that route, cut the season to 112-120 games, expand the playoffs to like sixteen or even twenty teams, then have a series of round robin pool play to eliminate teams until you arrive at the league championship series. Would make for way more interesting baseball with teams constantly facing elimination for two months

Sox planning more playing time for Vargas/Fletcher

After the Renteria to TLR to Grifol turn of events, I have to say I have come to the conclusion this is 100% the top consideration. Like many others, I was critical of Renteria for his in game decisions, but let’s face it, manager’s tactics come down to a lot of luck anyway. In retrospect, I’ll take the questionable moves every day of the week if you have a manager maintaining a cohesive team with a winning mentality. Like Berra said, 90% of baseball is half mental. Give me the psychological therapist. Half these ball players are nuts anyway -
LAD&PHI had "attractive" offers for Crochet
46DidIt replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Where did you get respectable offers out of that? It mentions a couple prospects that were not offered, a prospect offer rejected due to injury, and that Benintendi was included in talks for salary relief in exchange for lesser offers -
Trading a productive major leaguer under long term control for a solitary B- prospect is never a good idea IMO. If they got two Eders I could buy it. Straight up? nah

Robert has always struck me as a guy going though the motions, but with his talent, the motion produced good results when he was locked in and healthy. But he doesn’t seem to possess a real ball player mentality
-
Thanks. Forgot about that one.

Baldwin, Sosa, Vargas and Fletcher are already on the roster. DeLoach sucks. I’d rather just hold off on Quero but you may be right there. No excuse for not playing Colas though imo. Who is AHT?
-
Colas for Sheets, but otherwise, yeah

Schriffen says he was aiming at “Sportscasters”

The evidence seems to be on his side -
Playing on a 120 loss team was so disheartening, HOFer Richie Ashburn just up and retired despite being perfectly healthy and having just hit .306 with a .424 OBP. Yet Grifol persists.

Did you guys forget about this one:
-
Yeah but if you have a horrible manager why would you want to keep him. Presumably, if you had a horrible team you’d want to improve it
-
We’re only a couple good Baldwin games from a complete lineup of .200+ hitters. ?

I was gonna go with Alice Cooper

At this age, just setting my cigar in a holder is a thrill.
-
The season would have to be 332 games long for this team to win 80 games
-
How is it any more meaningless than anyone’s current status then? As I pointed out, he has .440 OBP and 1.000 OPS at AAA and 107 OPS+ at mlb THIS YEAR. The only thing different is Vargas past rookie threshold
-
Vargas also produced at every minor league stop. You get player B and then he goes through the same struggles when and if he gets to MLB. I don’t see the big advantage there compared to Vargas, having been significantly higher rated to begin with, already in the majors and having gone through the adjustment period. This year Vargas has an .440 OBP and over 1.000 OPS at AAA and 107+ OPS at MLB level. He’s been over .400 OBP each of last three years. I don’t see how someone like Starlyn Caba would be preferable just because the don’t yet have 350 mlb PA. Sure the extra year is a consideration but seems to me like there’s a significant gap between Vargas and guys ranked closer to 75-100 at the moment. None of those guys have come close to “producing at every level” compared to Vargas
