  1. QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 01:48 PM) Addendum to breaking news, they don't do it this way. Good night and have a pleasant tomorrow. Oh I forgot, teams have never overextended their budgets for small periods of time where they thought they could win championships. I mean, come on, sports franchises have never had economic losses, right? Right? Give me a break.
  2. QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) Again, what about the budget, why are you ignoring this aspect of reality? Do you think other teams know the White Sox are over budget as it currently stands? (let me help you, the answer to that question is "yes"). Further, do you think that possibly gives other teams a slight bit of leverage in terms of what to give up? (answer again is "yes"). Finally, do you think other teams might be conerned about Garland's arbitration award which might also factor in to what they'd give up to take on that big $$ number? ("yes"). Breaking news: You can have negative economic profits for a year and still survive as a business, more at 11 PM.
  3. Assuming Garland is traded to LA, I want to see Billingsley or Guzman in return. Brazoban would be nice, but when you're trading a 26-year-old who could very well put up a low 3 ERA in the NL, the Dodgers better be willing to give up a lot.
  4. Would all the Garland bashers who say such ignorant bulls*** like Garland had a "so-so" second half take the time to back their s*** up? Oh wait, if they looked at Garland's second half splits, they'd see that while there was a minor drop off in production stats, he averaged barely over a hit an inning and had a 3.65 ERA. He also had a bad month in August and then bounced back to a solid September and a great start in October. Hey guess what guys, Freddy Garcia had an ERA of 4.28 in the second half. Mark Buehrle had an ERA of 3.84 in the second half. Only Jose Contreras had a better second half ERA startingwise than Garland. And all of you are ready to chuck him out the boat? Why aren't you people saying the same stupid s*** about having a bad career prior to this season about Contreras? Jesus f***ing Christ, open up your goddamn eyes.
  5. I'm willing to bet that I could huff gas for three hours and type better than that.
  6. The Giants managed to somehow get older. Hats off to Sabean, that's quite an accomplishment. I can smell a Jesse Orosco signing coming.
  7. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 04:31 PM) Prior to his injury Miller was one of the bright spots in the Dodgers system. He has high upside and good stuff. I don't know much about how serious his injury was (I forget what it was) but assuming his stuff is back and he's healthy he's a guy whose value is at a low but has major upside. Arthroscopic shoulder surgery.
  8. Johnson Mussina Wright/Pavano? Chacon Wang? Enjoy being ousted in the first round yet again, Yanks.
  9. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 01:24 PM) Cerb, you no likey Elbert? I've got nothing against him, but if you're trading a 26-year-old pitcher at the height of his trading value you'd be wise to get some major league ready prospects in return, not a guy in Low-A.
  10. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 01:10 PM) If we want hitting prospects it Laroche or Guzman, no ifs and or butts. If we want pitching we have plenty of options: Billingsley/Elbert/Broxton/Miller/Jackson. All of those guys when healthy have darn good stuff. Miller and Jackson both have had some injury issues though (which should be noted). Broxton is the one thats major league ready and you could make a case that Jackson is (if he puts his head on straight). Bingo. The pool of players should consist of LaRoche, Guzman, Billingsley, Jackson, Miller and Broxton. If LA doesn't at least offer two of them, KW would be wise to hang up.
  11. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) If with the Dodgers.. Dewyln Young.. Otherwise no deal. Thank God you're not the GM. You're trading away a young starter who put up a mid 3 ERA in the AL and you want a player who reeks of utility player. Add to the fact that the Dodger system is f***ing loaded with pitching prospects and a very good Joel Guzman...and yet you still want Delwyn Young. Smart!
  12. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 05:16 PM) I have no idea where Dover, PA is... does anyone? It's some podunk town of about 1000 people. I only knew that because The Daily Show covered the story a bit.
  13. This trade makes no sense for both sides. Texas trades easily their best starter for a seriously overhyped pitcher in Eaton, a worthless prospect (who used steroids nonetheless) in Sledge and a reliever with a WHIP of 1.4. And the Padres get Young, another overhyped prospect (Gonzalez) and a very low level prospect. Even if the Pads flip Gonzalez for Wells, it still isn't a trade that will make the Pads better than the Dodgers. Awful trade for Texas, merely a bad one for San Diego.
  14. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 10:42 PM) Offhand -- the PCL is a pitcher's league, right? Only if Birmingham is considered a hitter's paradise. The PCL is notorious for inflating offensive stats, especially in Albequerque.
  15. QUOTE(danman31 @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 04:24 PM) Ryan Rodriguez top 10? Am I missing something? Meant Hernandez, me is durrrrr.
  16. Here's my Top 10: 1) Anderson 2) Sweeney 3) Broadway 4) Fields 5) Owens 6) Liotta 7) Hernandez 8) Tracey 9) Rogowski 10) Getz
  17. QUOTE(sec159row2 @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 12:56 PM) http://townhall.com/hrd.html?sid=179266&lo.../mediamyths.asp Oh yes, the highly regarded Free market Project, which is of course neutral, telling me hard hitting economic facts! Laissez-faire, laissez-faire, laissez-faire! Excuse me while I go read The Weekly Standard, NewsMax, and the Wall Street Journal so I can finish my pro business circlejerk.
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 01:30 AM) I tend to like him to on the downside (if he doesn't totally bust) to Mike Cameron and on the upside Andruw Jones (not as good defensively, but I think he can do similar things when it comes to power and steals). Jones is flat out the man defensively. Notice I say if he doesn't totally bust out. I say that because I either see Young totally stinking it up or becoming a pretty good player. I don't see him having a "mediocre" career. I'm not worried as much about his strikeouts because he hits the ball hard and he has a good eye. If he were to play in the majors right now, he wouldn't hit for much of an avg, but you'd still see a good number of xtra base hits and he'd contribute in other ways, imo. Slow down, chief. And remember, you were slobbering all over Deininger and look what happened to him. Jones' last three full season in the minors went like this average wise: .277/.313/.369 And Young's were .262/.277 The comparisons to Jones are unneccessary and flat out wrong. As for hitting 50 HRs, he'll never do that unless he learns to consistently hit breaking balls. His AFL scouting report said that when pitchers strating throwing him straight junk he went through the floor, which might have been an indicator for the Sox to devalue him a bit. I think the Mike Cameron comparison is valid, and if he does imitate Cameron's numbers or does slightly better (look at Cameron's AA numbers), the trade still works out well for the Sox. Trading a Mike Cameron clone who doesn't neccesarily fit in to the organizational scheme for a 29-year-old who is basically a bet to throw you 220+ IP is a no brainer. And remember, I hear that Paul Konerko guy, the guy we got for Cameron, is pretty good.
  19. I'd give my Dad enough money to retire about 8 years early. He's basically putting my brother and I through college, and I sometimes feel really guilty about now contributing more to my tuition.
  20. 2 yrs/11 million Wow, thanks for spending wastefully, Detroit.
  21. Linkin Park, Creed, oh my could this tread be epic.
  22. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 08:03 PM) That's definitely forgot about defense. The past few years, defense was something we could hold our hat on. This year, we think we can just outscore everyone, and defense doesn't matter. Apparently it f***ing does. I'm hoping that the return of DJ can spark some defense for these assholes. It seems that only The Rod and DJ ever play defense on this team.

    Dear Life,

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 06:59 PM) Cerb, having gone through this myself - DEFINITELY when the insurance calls you, tell them that you're not feeling well enough to talk at the moment... even if you are. Let them f***ers stew. After a couple or three days, then talk to them. Yeah, the insurance company called me today and I told them how I was feeling: very f***ing sore and my wrists still hurt.

    Dear Life,

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 05:33 PM) s***ty s***ty story Mike. Makes the cold I'm suffering for during crunch time seem minimal. Good to hear your alright and hopefully that presentation went well (if you could even think). I do think you got a viable excuse (teach my ears are ringing from having my car totaled). The presentation got delayed because of technical problems. So now my Thursday looks like this: 1115-1230 Final 230-345 Presentation 700-900 Final FUN
