  1. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 08:20 PM) ........ im heartbroken. absolutely heartbroken.... my hero just ended his NFL career 10 years early. i couldnt be more depressed. And we're all glad it took you five posts to get there!
  2. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 07:07 AM) Sigh.. sure wish I was going to that show.. You won't be missing much, they're horrible live.
  3. There's a bounty of overrated offensive stats (SLG, OPS, R) but I think OPS takes the cake here. OPS needs to be weighted somehow to give OBP more of an influence on the stat, as an 800 OPS can be great (.400 OBP .400 SLG) or awful (.300 OBP .500 SLG). There have been many reports that say that OBP is 1.2x to 1.4x more valuable than slugging in terms of OPS, and I definitely agree.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) I speak 3 fluent languages, English, Serbian, and Spanish. I know that some jobs always need bi, tri etc. lingual people so...TIFWIW. I sincerely doubt that you're "fluent" in the latter two languages. Fluent is "Able to express oneself readily and effortlessly", not merely carrying on a basic conversation. I've studied German for 7 years now and I'm still miles away from fluency.
  5. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 09:41 AM) He just raked at high school (or college can't remember), and he's carried on with those numbers in Bristol. Gotta the .403 OBP at the moment. It's the Appy League, his BA isn't anything special. His first real test will come at Low-A.

Switzerland has four official languages: German, French, Italian and Romansh.
  7. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 07:48 AM) Agree, that he was stupid. I think he was simply dazed. Falling knocks the equilibrium off. He was likely just stunned. Apparently he nailed the camera on the net and that's why he was stabilized in a stretcher and such. Just what I heard.
  8. I thought when Chris entered the A-ha video in the Lois being a klepto episode was the best thing I've seen on Family Guy. Flat out unbelievable.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 01:54 PM) reason i'm doing the whole business thing well is........because i want a job, Then enjoy working in a cubicle most likely, unless you go to Grad School. I'd rather double major in Liberal Arts and test the employment waters before going on to Grad School. But then again, speaking two languages and specialzing in international economics and policy isn't as worthless as say Philosophy. "But they're always hiring at the philosophy store!"
  10. QUOTE(Randar68 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 08:47 AM) Haig has and never will hit mid-90's... BA also said Brian Miller had the best RH power arm in the system... Oh yeah, I definitely remember that one. "95+ MPH easy heat." Boy was I surprised when he was topping out at 90 with a violent delivery to say the least.
  11. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) I just got back from watching 2 innings at lunch and let me just say that you can PM me for the "I f***ing hate Juan Uribe club" What, you mean no one saw this coming? He was awful in Colorado and last year was an outlier year so he could get money and be horrible this year. Nice line of 244 .282 .380 going for him.
  12. Internet Explorer w/ SP2. Firefox is great because it randomly crashes and runs like a bad version of Netscape, not to mention half the pages don't even load correctly.
  13. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 08:33 PM) Chris Young was finally back tonight as well and homered. As for Haigwood; 13. Daniel Haigwood, LHP, 21, Birmingham Potential: 6 Big League Odds: 40% When it comes to prospects, Daniel Haigwood has improved his status more than any other Sox minor leaguer this season. Haigwood was the ace of the Warthogs' staff along with Charles Haeger for part of the year going 8-2 with a 3.77 ERA in 15 starts. Daniel struck out 84 in 76.1 innings while giving up 79 hits, earning himself a promotion to AA Birmingham. Haigwood pitched brilliantly in his first start for the Barons and is expected to finish out the season in Birmingham. The 21 year old lefty gave up just one run on 3 hits in 6.2 innings of work with 7 strikeouts in his only AA start. Haigwood features a 88-91 MPH fastball with good movement, a plus curveball and a good changeup. Haigwood pitched admirably in 2004, after missing the entire 2003 season, and is now at 100%. Haigwood walks roughly one batter every two innings and needs to improve on his control. However, the lefty has what it takes to become a back of the rotation starter and does an excellent job keeping batters off-balance. Haigwood doesn't project as a backend guy because his stuff is so good. He was a two pitch pitcher out of High School (fastball, curveball) and has been introduced to the change as he entered the Sox system. Not sure how well he throws it. His big key is getting his curveball, which is superb, over for a strike. He seems to be doing that just fine now, and BA says he can hit the mid 90s when he wants to, which I believe. When I interviewed him last year he said he was feeling 100% and back from his injury. I guess his AA performance would affirm that: 40.1 IP 20 H 19 BB 43 SO 4 ER
  14. So, who's going to hit the homerun which will account for our offensive production? Rest on your laurels, guys!

  16. QUOTE(danman31 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 01:59 PM) b**** please. All my classes start at noon or later. I only have 50 minutes of school on Wednesday's and Friday's. We've been over this. My schedule is insanely easy. Then take more classes. I tested out of 14 credits worth of one of my majors and I still took 16 or 17 credit hours my first semester. By doing this I'll be halfway done with all my classes and electives after this upcoming semester. This enables me to take 12-15 credit hours in Germany....which means more time for me in the beer halls.
  17. Off the top of my head: CLLC-Q 199 Collins Seminar (1) GER-G 305 Introduction to German Literary Themes (3) HPSC-X 100 Science and History of the Occult (3) ECON-E 201 Introduction to Microeconomics (3) ENG-W 270 Argumentative Writing (3) INTL-I 206 Nations, States and Boundaries (3) Fairly easy schedule, next semester I'll be taking the maximum amount of credit hours, which should be a blast.
  18. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 07:58 PM) Did you do the exchange program to Germany when you were in high school? My parents are trying to force me to go because my sister went and had a blast, but I'm not too thrilled about it. I would be gone all of June and a german kid would come here in April. No, I basically just did some minor extra-ciriccular German stuff when I was in High School. I am planning on utilizing IU's study abroad programs next year (3rd year of Uni) and study in Freiburg for the academic year (September to July).
  19. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 01:37 PM) Hoosier Courts @ Kinser. My friend that's a b-ball manager lived in Collins last year. He had a corner room, so it was really big/nice. I like that location too. Yeah, I've got a double as a single all to myself on a corner room, so it should be nice. And I found out that my floormate who lives right next to me is a fellow German major and he's really nice. The food at Collins is excellent but I'll have to try and ignore the artistes and emo kids. Shorter walk to Kirkwood from Wright is always nice.

By credit hours I'm a second semester sophomore at Indiana University Bloomington. I'm a double major in Germanic Studies and International Studies. The German department at IU is superb to say the least and I love the campus with the exception of some business scholl students and some students who live north of 10th St.
  21. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 12:19 PM) My last day of work is this Saturday. I gave myself a little over a week to be a bum. I get to go back on the 23rd, and then we start on the 29th. I'm so ready! IU... Where are you living this year? I'll be in Collins this year and I'm definitely getting trashed when I move back in.
  22. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) actually, then you missed his entire point. Your right, the irish don't care. But if your going to get rid of just the indian related names, isn't that racism? His point is that you can't pick and choose what's offensive and what's not. If you can't have a indian as your logo, you shouldn't be able to have an irishmen. Ask the demographic what's offensive and what's not. Indians have a pride issue with teams misrepresenting their tribes and their rituals by colleges. Irish people have more pressing issues to deal with in their mind. And if Downey's point is you can't pick and choose what's offensive, I'm going to lobby for the Indiana University Aryans where we have someone dress up as Hitler and rile up the crowd and have military manuevers while blaring Deutschland über Alles. By your's and Downey's logic, you can't do s*** because you can't say what's offensive or not! Hello University of Cal Aborted Fetuses!
  23. Someone posted this in another thread, and the Irish community could give two s***s about ND's little green dude. He isn't drinking heavily, beating up people and randomly pissing on blarney stones. He's not stereotypical at all. What Downey fails to realize here is that while some of the Indian mascots perform religious rituals, the ND leprechaun isn't doing anything. He's not praying in a church or eating the sacrement. He's holding up a sign that says "Let's Go Irish."
  24. Give me a break. Most Irish could give a s*** in ND has a leprechaun doing stuff during the game, we simply don't care. The little green dude doesn't pray to the Catholic Church or eat sacrement during the game, he holds up f***ing "Let's Go Irish" signs. Goddamn. As an Irishman, shut the f*** up, Mike Downey. I see the point you're trying to make and you've failed horribly.
  25. He still pops up the same amount of times, who cares. He's hitting 12 points higher and only has a 4 point increase in his OBP. He's a hole.
