  1. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 08:23 AM) Speaking of BA, any info on him? I can't fiind anything on future sox. Is he injured? Torn ligaments in his wrist, done for the year.
  2. Eggy through 5: 2 H 1 BB 10 SO Heads just orgasmed.
  3. Johnnie Lowe was a draft pick of ours this year. He's been pitching fairly well/decently up until now.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 06:07 AM) Only on this site would Egbert be higher than DLS Because we forgot that a 24-year-old being in the top 3 of almost every major pitching category in AA is s*** in comparison to a guy lighting up low-A ball. Egbert has four very solid pitches and knows how to pitch, while DLS has two good pitches and needs to develop a third. Don't get me wrong, DLS obviously has more upside than Egbert, but until DLS starts flashing a changeup with consistency, Egbert and Gio will take over for him. As for my Top 10: 1) Gonzalez (by a hair) 2) Egbert 3) DLS 4) Carter 5) Richar 6) Sean Burroughs II 7) Poreda 8) Broadway 9) McCullouch 10) Oneli
  5. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 12:25 PM) I think Moore is better GM than Williams. He's won both trades he's made with the Sox. And KC has a brighter future than the Sox. Look at the young talent base the two clubs have. The Sox have Josh Fields and ...that's it. KC has 3 young 3B better than Fields plus a bunch of other decent prospects. Start naming them.
  6. For anyone thinking that the Royals will not be occupying the cellar for the next several years at least, please mention to me one pitching prospect in their farm system outside of Hochevar who could make an impact in the next two years. Moore is going to have to either overpay once again for a free agent pitcher and hope to get lucky (Meche) or pull off some low level moves for back of the rotation starters (Bannister). They'll finish the season probably around 25 games under .500 and that's considered improvement by them.
  7. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 11:50 AM) good post....how many guys really are considered #1 starters? Hughes bailey, maybe gallardo, lincecum...theres nothing wrong with having the ceiling of a #3 starter....jon garland is a number 3, so is javy vazquez...i think wed all be thrilled if gio turns out to be a guy like that....is he gonna be a santana, peavy, type? i think we all knew the answer to that was no even before BP came out with anything...i for one would be very happy if gio becomes a guy who we can count on to give us 13-15 wins a year, which is fairly typical for a #3 on a good team... Exactly my point. There are only very few prospects considered #1s, and if Gio is a #3 and puts up numbers better than the league average, I'll be very happy.
  8. I'm just going to ignore the BP circle jerk because it's obvious a lot of you will just start being negative the instant a publication starts viewing our prospects poorly. For the ceiling of Gio, I find it kind of pointless. Very rarely are minor leaguers pegged as #1 starters, and even more rare is when they pan out to be #1 starters. Why is this? Simple: because many pitchers who are currently aces go through a learning process and adjust at the major league level, not the minor league level. This is why you have an army of AAAA guys who can't get a major league hitter out with regularity if their lives depended on it. Of course it is important to have good stuff, which Gio has, but it's more important to know how to pitch, change speeds, and most importantly adapt to what teams are doing to you. Thus, it's a f***ing crapshoot to say player A is going to be a #1 and player B a #4. Player A could be dumb as rocks and will keep throwing his curveball with no control until he flames out of the league while player B understands how to picth. This is why I think Egbert is our best pitching prospect: because every scouting report I read says he flat out knows how to pitch with four pitches. Yes it would be nice if the threw 95+, but if you can mix four pitches and locate them well, specifically down in the zone, odds are you're going to have more success than the pitcher who just knows how to throw hard.
  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 10:29 AM) What happened to Russell this year? Is he hurt, or figured out? He was vastly overrated by the organization. His peripherals were always mediocre and they came back to bite him. However, if he can keep throwing 95 out of the pen, he'll be very nice to have.
  10. Anderson won't be in the picture initially most likely because he's out for the year with torn ligaments in his wrist.
  11. For reference, Haeger's June splits: 31.2 IP 27 H 10 ER 16 BB 35 SO 2.84 ERA
  12. As for more trade speculation, McCullouch only went 1 IP for WS today (0 H 0 R 0 BB 2 SO). Just sayin'.
  13. QUOTE(SEALgep @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 09:52 AM) Frustrated a little? Anyway, he doesn't exactly have the easiest role, but he has some decent stuff. I'm not prepared to ditch him... He belongs in Charlotte to duke it out with the other AAAA pitchers we have assembled. Just imagine this rotation for the Knights: Broadway Sisco Masset Haeger Floyd Just good enough to be good in AAA.
  14. QUOTE(SEALgep @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 09:43 AM) Not to mention Masset as a nice throw in. Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
  15. The Twins aren't playing on their concrete trampoline, so I think things are good for us. Hopefully Jon can set a good tone and Gavin can finish them off in the night cap.
  16. DLS went only 3+ tonight because he was on a pitch count of 50 pitches due to the Futures Game. Also torn buttocks.
  17. DLS leaves with torn buttocks. Out for the year. Possibly forever.
  18. Phone or in-face interviews are always the best, but we don't get very many opportunities to do so for several reasons: 1) We're all living our own lives. I've done the most interviews of anyone on FutureSox, and outside of a trip we took in 2004(?), I've done only two interviews on the phone (Broadway and Honel). This year it's almost impossible for me to do any work (I really like just doing interviews and then writing a story about it) because I'm in Germany. I return home next month thankfully, so that means I'll have the opportunity to question more players if the opportunity arises. Jason works full time now and Heads is too busy basically picking up for lazy ass Jason (and everyone else). Heads also attends university full time. I'll be honest, I'm surprised we even get anything done. It's a real testament for Jason, Heads and the rest of the guys who work their ass off with the little time that they have. 2) Almost no player wants to take time out of their schedule and talk to us. I got really, really lucky with Broadway and Honel, especially Lance, but the opportunities just don't come to us unless we're there at the park. Since none of us are close to the parks, outside of me and Birmingham, it makes it even more difficult. And even with me, it would take me 8 hours just to get to Mobile and interview some of the guys. I would then have to pay for a hotel room, food, gas and everything else because we do this because we love minor league baseball (and the sluts, of course).
  19. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 12:41 PM) And I know it ain't happening, but it would be amazing if we could somehow sign Kevin Patterson. Patterson would be quite the feather in the cap, but you'd have to offer him 1st round supplemental type money for him even to consider signing. That being said, I think Griffith will sign but the others will not unless we start offering them 3rd-5th round money.
  20. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) My anus could really use a tongue cleaning, what's your rate? I'd rather funnel hot tar up my ass through a traffic cone. As for your second offer, Kemp is still worth more than those three combined.
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 12:32 PM) I can think of a quick way to clear 2 spots on the 40 man roster. Think "Gimpy" and "Grindy" then DFA. That would make too much sense, but this organization is quite stubborn as we all know. Hell, you could kick Bukvich, Phillips and Reynoso off the 40-man and there wouldn't be much lost either.
  22. Vazquez is on the 40-man while Wassermann is not. That being said, calling up Vazquez would be asinine. He's walked 22 batters in 33.1 innings in Charlotte and had an ERA of 5 last month. It doesn't matter anyways since Day seems to be healthy once again and will probably be activated from the DL on Saturday after Gavin pitches his part of the doubleheader.
