  1. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 2, 2007 -> 01:16 AM) The whole playoff thing was out of place, and completely stupid. Thom Brennaman is a baseball announcer and is easily one of the best in the business. Don't hate on him.
  2. That was the great football game I've ever seen. No, f*** that. Greatest sports game I've ever seen. Words cannot decribe how epic that was.
  3. First f***ing play of overtime. God damnit, just go for two now Boise!
  4. QUOTE(3E8 @ Dec 31, 2006 -> 01:43 PM) Pretty impressive. That's a better package than we got for Freddy. Are the Yankees picking up salary? About 10 million I believe.
  5. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 31, 2006 -> 11:18 AM) Every pitcher is an injury risk and I imagine that the White Sox won't even be in on the bidding. Although, I should add that I was being mocking when I said, "We don't take that kind of risk." It's no secret that I dislike our organization's three-years-ONLY policy. That's why you trade Buehrle and Thome to free up like $30 million dollars. Then you sign Santana to a 3-year $100 million dollar contract and make him pitch every day. He's bound to set some kind of record then!
  6. I banged KW's cleaning lady two hours ago and she told me that the Sox are gonna trade for Griffey and Chavez for Nick Lemon's shoes, Demetrius Banks and a new offensive statistic. I'll keep u doods posted.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 08:41 PM) It's disturbingly close. Nearly identical WHIP, Buehrle with a slightly higher ERA (.3), Buehrle WL at 97/66 and Zito at 102/63. A better 2nd half from Buehrle last year and his career numbers would be better than Zito's. Zito is regressing and it shows, although a move to the NL will probably help his career stats down the road. He's not the same pitcher he was when he won 23 games, but he's still very good. But not $17 million a year good
  8. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) So your saying there wouldn't be any significant fan uproar when we let Mark walk with nothing but two draft picks in return? If you offer something like 6/90 and he turns it down, a lot of the fans will live with it. Of course the ignoramuses will b**** and moan for a while, but I'd rather go the arbitration route with him.
  9. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 02:03 PM) The point is moot. He would not accept arbitration. No it's not. You judge the worth of the two first round draft picks versus the prospects you'd get from a trade partner. If teams are lowballing you and not willing to give up the amount of prospects you deem right, you try your luck in arbitration and then possibly the draft.
  10. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) What? It's fairly obvious that KW is letting the market affect him in such a way where he's going to let probably 3/4ths of Contreras, Garland, Buehrle and Vazquez walk. If KW is going to do this, and I think he will unless the market corrects itself, which it certainly won't do next year, he's going to need time for an in-house replacement to develop. Thus you hope Buehrle accepts arbitration in 08 or you trade him now for prospects. If he's going to be worth $17-$18 million, the trade negotiations start at Humber, Pelfrey and Milledge.
  11. He's better than Zito, but due to his off year, I'd say Buehrle is worth about $15-17 million a year. Because he obviously isn't worth that type of money, I think the best plan of action would be to try and get Mark to accept arbitration in 08 to give time for a replacement in the farm system. A "good" pitcher like Zito getting $18 million a year is just one more sign that baseball needs a salary cap.
  12. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 26, 2006 -> 02:45 PM) Let's make sure we get our stats correct. Danks pitched extremely well at high-A Bakersfield (2.50 ERA). Then he struggled when called up to AA Frisco for the remainder of the 2005 season. Then he started the 2006 season in AAA and pitched better, but not great (4.15 ERA). Then he was called up to AAA Oklahoma where he struggled before finishing strong. Let's do, so pay attention. Danks pitched High-A ball in the California League, at both Stockton and Bakersfield, which is a hitter's paradise. The fact that Danks bounced back from a subpar half season at Stockton with an outstanding season at Bakersfield says loads. He then was promoted to AA, the hardest promotion for a minor-leaguer to handle, at 21, and pitched very well in 2006. In 2005 he was 20-years-old and in AA, so cut him some slack. God forbid he can't dominate AA at 20, the f***ing bum. And then, at 21, he was promoted to AAA PCL, which is even more of a hitter's league than the Cal League. Some ballparks, namely Albuquerque, I could hit home runs out of. Think Coors Field, no humidor, and then lower the gravity a bit. The fact that Danks averaged less than a hit per innings and a strikeout per inning, for a 21-year-old, is simply outstanding. But if you want to hold him to the standards that he should be turning water into wine, knock yourself out. Now compare our situation to others in the AL Central. Minnesota lost 40% of their rotation in the offseason and Carlos Silva is usually a lock to suck. Here's their projected starting rotation: Santana Bonser Silva Garza Baker/Slowey/??? Their oldest pitcher is also 32. They are going to have growing pains, not to mention some of their pitchers are going to flake out (Reyes) and come down to Earth a bit (Neshek). The Twins shouldn't be worried about now, but rather two to three years down the road if even 25% of their prospects pan out. They're looking very good. Tigers are looking at: Bonderman Rogers (pine tarring and fluking his way to an abberation near you) Verlander Robertson Grilli (laffo)/Maroth/Miner I'd go to war with our rotation against theirs, 5th starter and all, any day of the week.
  13. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 24, 2006 -> 03:55 PM) And so, Mariotti comes out of hibernation. And gave us this gem: he peddled can't-miss McCarthy to the Texas Rangers for three pitching prospects who never have been in the majors Masset pitched in September last year and unless Danks' left arm flies off, he'll be up next year. And how McCarthy is can't miss is beyond me. Typisch.
  14. I just arrived home after 3 1/2 months in Europe. I want to go back to Europe to forget about this. Masset I like, Danks is not worth McCarthy.
  15. Rotoworld hits the nail on the head again: Royals acquired first baseman Ross Gload from the White Sox for LHP Andrew Sisco. Awful. At least Rafael Soriano for Horacio Ramirez could be justified by the not quite non-existent chance that Ramirez could somehow be a No. 3 starter in the AL. Gload is a 30-year-old backup first baseman with little chance of being more than a useful pinch-hitter going forward. Sisco is a 24-year-old left-hander with terrific stuff who the Royals made the mistake of forcing into the bullpen. Players like Gload are available as minor league free agents every year. Players like Sisco become available only when you're lucky enough to catch a bad GM on the right day. We're growing less impressed with Dayton Moore by the minute. Gload can hit a little in his limited role, but he's no better equipped to help the Royals than Justin Huber is. Huber is probably the next youngster Moore will sell off for at a big discount.
  16. I could have sworn Allan Baird got fired last year, but this and the Meche signing make me believe Moore is a robot controlled by Baird from somewhere in the US. What a stupid, stupid trade for the Royals.
  17. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 12:42 PM) By all means I'm not saying it will, but thats the only way (if I were GM) I'd be cutting a deal with the Phils. Just like there is no way Hirsch is as good of a prospect as a lot of people on here seem to think. I don't know if Hirsh is a stud or not, but I agree trading Garcia for prospects isn't a great deal unless you know the prospect is a slam dunk like Pelfrey. If you're talking Garcia for Hirsh + a regular, then it's a different story.
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 12:38 PM) words Garcia for Rollins, Rowand and Turnbow won't happen. Won't happen if we throw Anderson or whomever in there as well. I don't see any reason why the Phillies would trade Rollins and why we would need another guy who throws 95+.
  19. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 01:33 PM) My fearless prediction is that the 2007 team will feature Pods in LF, Alomar as backup catcher, Sweeney/Owens in CF, and either Vazquez or Garland traded to Texas for minor league closer Nick Masset. And a 4th place finish. I'll be happy to be proved wrong on any of this. If only there was some sort of machine that prevented people from posting if their brain activity wasn't high enough. I can hope. The off-season hasn't even seen the Winter Meetings and people around here are preparing for the apocalypse. And what the f*** are you even talking about Vazquez/Garland for Masset? Last time I checked, he wasn't even the main piece of ANY rumor regarding to the Rangers. And where would Anderson go? What would we get for him? Jesus, some of you really need to take a break from posting for a while and go outside or something.
  20. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 10:32 AM) Oh, and there is a reported no-trade clause in the deal as well. So so much for unloading that salary. Yup, no-trade clause is being reported by ESPN. Still waiting on the clarification over option years to crown this the stupidest move possible for the Cubs.
  21. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 19, 2006 -> 03:36 PM) Not Zito or Schmidt, but I imagine they'll go after Lilly or Igawa. They don't need Lilly considering they have a perfectly good meatball producer in Cotts to take his place for cheaper. $51 million to talk with a pitcher, and now 8/136 for a guy that is 31 and had outliers across the board last year (in his pay year nonetheless). What's next? No, seriously, I want to see an even dumber move than the aforementioned.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 19, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) No way is Hendry done in the FA market though or in the trade market trying to improve his starting rotation. So he's going to convince the Trib to throw him another $100 million to get Zito or Schmidt? s***, they've probably tapped out all of their reserves given to them, and they're offering Matthews or Pierre $10 million a year.
