I think KW is getting freaked about how much Jon G. gets in free agency next year especially if he has another year like he just did. I would say at least 12 mil./per for multiple years. Getting Vaz does two things: Insurance in case Garland or Contreras bolts next year Gives Kenny some leverage to resign at least one of them now before the money gets out of hand and/or make another deal knowing we have BMAC ready to start now.

Most GMs after winning a World Series would just sit back and try to keep the same team together. Not Kenny, he is acting like a GM desperate to win a World Series and thats the right attitude to take after winning the World Series. Props to Kenny for not just sitting back and basking in the glory which he could have easily done.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 10:48 PM) Somehow, I just have this feeling that next year will be the year that Crede's streakiness turns into a nearly .300 average and a 25+ home run campaign. Especially after he finally found a stroke that worked for him from September on. And then he will be gone with Boras as his agent.

Frank was the face of the franchise for over a decade. This is a bittersweet day for me. Im happy Konerko is back but sad that this is the end for Big Frank in a White Sox uni. I hope he can get healthy and get to 500 HR (As long as its not with Cleveland or Minny). Thank you Frank heres to a future Hall of Fame induction.

I hope so greasy. IU has better depth and that may be the determining factor. A lot may be riding on it because it may determine who wins the challenge which the Big Ten has never one. GO Hoosiers!! -
Sox interested in Mike Myers; Marte being shopped
HoosierSox replied to SSH2005's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 04:13 PM) Give it up for Soxtalk! We were all over this one weeks ago. I've been researching Myers moreso than any other player this off-season. Since we came up with this "crazy plan," I swear I must have checked, re-checked, and checked his stats about a hundred times. I'm all in favor of the move. Bring the Arlington Heights boy home and use him nearly exclusively against lefties. Before I go any further, let's all give Neal Cotts a big round of applause for making this all possible. Without his emergence last year at this team's premier left arm out of the bullpen, Kenny would not make possible the trade of a lefty with GREAT stuff and met potential that simply shot himself in the foot and bought his own ticket out of town. The signing of Mike Myers--who, for those of you that aren't aware, is a 3/4s-submarine pitcher...very entertaining to watch--makes possible the trade of Marte, someone who clearly isn't one of "Ozzie's boys" and seemed to talk himself right out the clubhouse door. I'm all for this one. All in. Marte still has tremendous trade value--yup, tremendous...these sorts of left-handers don't grow on trees, despite his recent struggles spanning nearly one and a half seasons--and should net quite a lot in return. Just throwing out this one: Seeing as I'm not one for Pierre on this team, how about a Marte trade for some primere left-handed minor-league talent to help replace the gaping hole left by the departure of Haigwood and Gonzalez? Although I'd love to see some kind of MLB talent netted with his departure, it simply might not be in the cards. Does he have MLB value? Absolutely. Would it be as high as the value he could net if traded for minor leaguers? /Myers mugshot avatar I agree. If Marte is traded I want to see us restock a couple of minor league arms that we lost in the Thome trade. I do not want to see Pierre on this team. We have a nearly identical player in Willie Harris. -
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) ESPN reports: Billy Wagner signs a 4 year deal worth about 43 million with the New York Mets. Wow once again the Mets overpay for a player. Wagner is good. BUT he is gettin up there in age. With the thin pitching market this year- i'm happy were thick with pitching. What do you expect? The baseball retarded Blue Jays set the market with that horrible deal they gave B.J. Ryan. Expect very inflated prices for relief pitchers this offseason. See the Cubs who overpayed for two middle relievers. Youre right though its good were pretty much set with pitching.

Willie Harris in CF>Crazy Carl.

Konerko has to be salivating at the possibility of having Thome in the lineup. Because of Thome he will see better pitches. Better pitches=More Home Runs. Come on Pauly.

Poll: Do you like the Rowand for Thome deal?
HoosierSox replied to dmbjeff's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Nov 24, 2005 -> 01:45 PM) Now that I've had a chance to really think about and digest this deal, I love it. I'm gonna miss Arow badly, but a healthy Thome, and I have no reason to believe he won't be healthy, unless something freakish happens, is a guaranteed bet to hit 40+ HR and knock in anywhere from 100-120 RBI. The OBP he's sported over the years is sick. And like many already knew, he's a wonderful guy to have in that clubhouse. Welcome to Chicago, Mr. Thome! I agree. At worst he could put up similiar numbers to Everett but if hes 100% healthy he will put up numbers equal to that of Konerko. Its a very low risk trade especially considering were stocked with young outfielders. Now it would be huge to resign Konerko. That would be a potential 80 HRs from the 3 & 4 slot. I think fans are going to get past losing Rowand pretty quickly. -
With Rowand gone now we lose a Gold Glove caliber CF IMO. I think that Anderson can put compareble numbers offensively with Rowand and maybe better. My question is is he an everyday CF. I have not seen him enough in the field to know what kind of jumps he gets and what kind of arm he has.

Can you guys tell me about Gonzalez and Haigwood?
HoosierSox replied to Hey_Look_Its_Chase_Utley!'s topic in Pale Hose Talk
From your description of Haigwood Chisoxfn he sounds a lot like Buerhle. Unknown lefty soft tosser who works fast and gets the job done. I hope we didnt just give up another Buerhle. -
White Sox acquire Jim Thome per ESPNnews
HoosierSox replied to Punch and Judy Garland's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Can Thome still play first base? Is it possible if Konerko goes elsewhere Frank will be back as the DH with Thome playing first. I really want to see Frank end his career in a White Sox uni but if Konerko signs it will be the end of Frank. Like the Podsednik deal we will have to wait and see how it works out but I have faith in KW after all we did just win the World Series. BA has better upside than Rowand imo. I think he should be the starting CF next year. -
Bob Nightengale: Sox Tell Phills They Want Thome

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) Ummmm something i dont think anyone has pointed out yet. But I DO believe that Thome is the most dangerous opposing team hitter who has ever played at the Cell. At least one of the most dangerous, I think he has hit the most Hr's there by an opposing hitter, i could be wrong, and im not going to look it up but I think its around 18 I think youre right and you know KW likes to get former Sox killers ie: A.J. and Jermaine. I would not be shocked at all if he was wearing a Sox uni next year. -
Jurrasic Carl>Piazza. Thats all I have to say.
-
How about this trade idea. Crede for Figgins. Seems pretty equal to me. Power and great defense for speed and solid defense.
-
I know this is an old topic but I thought they were supposed to be putting green seats in and they were going to be ready for opening day 2006. Anybody know anything about this.

tatoos are the devil.

I stayed up for every bit of it and my heart was racing from about the 9th inning on. I only got about 2 hours of sleep so I am definitely dragging right now but it was well worth it. Thank God Blum hit that HR or they still might be playing and I still would have kept watching.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 12:12 PM) he's not going to make Vlad money -- he's not an MVP candidate. He doesn't hit over .300. I dont know hes getting pretty close to being able to get Vladdy money. He was the ALCS MVP and with a relatively weak free agent market for power hitting first basemen he will get a lot of dough waived at him by NY, Aneheim, Boston etc. Lets hope he wants to stay at somewhat of a "discount" price.

Look what the Sox offered for Billy Wagner
HoosierSox replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Oct 16, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) If that were indeed the offer, anyone want to explain why Philly wouldn't have taken it? I call bulls*** on the writer. Exactly. Philly would be idiotic if they turned down that trade. I dont believe it either. -

I dont think there will be any middle road for IU. They will either lose the rest of their games or they will win at least 6. I sure hope its the latter. I also think that IU is one big upset away from this thing snowballing into a huge season. The tide is certainly changing in Bloomington. -
Should have been done 2 starts ago.

That was the best overall game I have seen IU play ever. They just totally dominated UK from the beginning. 2 weeks to prepare for Wisky may be a good thing. We have owned them the past 2 times. Go Hoosiers. -
