Keady mostly likely leaving Purdue
Purdue129 replied to Purdue129's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I still don't know what to think. Right now I'm leaning towards hoping he leaves. Purdue has been loyal to him the last few years(Bruce Webber could easily be on the Purdue sidelines right now), and now it doesn't look like he'll be loyal to them and honor the last year on his contract. It seems like a 99% chance he will NOT get any kind of extension after next year, but he should still feel the need to finish things out. If I was Morgan Burke, I'd be pretty pissed that he went to interview without alerting the University. The whole campus seems ready for him to go after he pulled this stunt. Most of the discussion has turned from "will he leave?" to "who's the next coach: Lavin, Matta or Painter?" -
Keady mostly likely leaving Purdue
Purdue129 replied to Purdue129's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
The fans love Cuonzo around here and I agree that he'd probably do a lot better job of recruiting than Keady has done. I do think that Lavin would be given priority, given his previous sucess. Keady's done a great job at recruiting good kids who do well in class and graduate(minus Booker), but his recruiting tactics don't cut it anymore. He has to be willing to take a chance here or there on a kid who might not be a perfect student right away. Hopefully there will be some resolution to this soon... it's taking away all attention off the women's team, not that there is much. -
Keady mostly likely leaving Purdue

the "official" statement said something along the lines of: Morgan Burke(AD) didn't know that Keady was going to SF to interview this week, but isn't upset. If that's what Keady wants to do, Purdue isn't going to stand in the way. Until Keady decides let him be...yada yada yada who knows... -

official announcement in an hour on purduesports.com -
didn't see this posted yet http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=1767983 After a potential Hall of Fame career at Purdue, Gene Keady could be ready to move to -- of all places -- San Francisco. And not to retire. Multiple sources told ESPN.com that Keady interviewed with University of San Francisco athletic director Bill Hogan on Tuesday on the Dons' campus. Keady wouldn't confirm or deny Thursday that he was on USF's campus for the interview and neither would Hogan. Keady told his assistants that he would be leaving for California earlier in the week but didn't specify where he was going. Hogan was a head coach and athletic director at St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Ind., during 1982-91. Keady told ESPN.com Thursday that he "has made no decision'' on his future and when he does, "there will be a memo or a statement.'' Hogan interviewed former Dons center and Bulls coach Bill Cartwright and Arizona assistant coach Rodney Tention Wednesday in San Francisco. Hogan also interviewed Connecticut assistant Clyde Vaughan in his search to replace the fired Philip Mathews. Keady, who is Purdue's all-time winningest (505-249) coach in 24 years at the school, has one season remaining on his contract. Keady has a late afternoon meeting with the players but it's not clear if it's related to the San Francisco interview. Purdue is expected to hold a news conference to address the issue one way or another by Friday afternoon. Purdue missed the NCAA Tournament in three of the last four seasons. The Boilermakers beat Duke to win the Great Alaska Shootout but finished 17-14 (7-9 in the Big Ten) and lost in the first round of the NIT at Notre Dame. Keady, 67, is a candidate for the Basketball Hall of Fame -- selections will be announced at the Final Four. Keady led the Boilermakers to 18 NCAA appearances, going 19-18 with two Elite Eight finishes, in 1994 and 2000. Purdue was in the NCAA Tournament in 2003, beating LSU in the first round before losing to Texas. If Keady leaves Purdue, the Boilermakers would likely move quickly to hire one of three candidates -- former UCLA coach Steve Lavin, who works for ESPN as an analyst; Southern Illinois coach Matt Painter, a former Purdue player; and Purdue assistant Cuonzo Martin. If Lavin is hired, Martin would likely be his top assistant. I don't know what to think about this. With one year left on the contract you would think the University and Keady would both want to ride it out, but I have a feeling if he leaves it was a mutual decision. I'd be happy with Painter or Cuonzo, I don't want to see Lavin. In a way it's good I'm graduating in May, it'd be weird to come back next year and not see Keady all the time.

Illinois at Purdue Thread
Purdue129 replied to Elcaballo45's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I second the person who said shame on Purdue fans, it's been like this for 2-3 years now. Other than that, Lowe didn't get fouled, it may have looked like it live, but after seeing the replays, no way. What was up with cheering USA, USA to Kartelo... you had all week to come up with something creative dealing with his arrest and all you come up with is USA, USA??? -
Great game tonight... just didn't turn out how I would have liked it to. Looks like Purdue's only shot at the Big Dance is going to be to win the B10 tourney. Congrats on the championship Illini.
-
that would be awesome
-
If you want me to justify that comment by actually explaining where they got Boilermakers from, I'd be more than happy to.
-
Yeah, I don't know why they don't have it be all gold instead of black to match the gene pool. Don't forget who won the last two years at Purdue when Illinois was ranked #10 and #14 respectively. Also don't forget who won the game at Illinois this year... although that was when Purdue was playing half-way decent
-
Oh well, I'm just going by what I heard on the radio today. I'm surprised they kept the Krush in one section. I'm not going to argue with you though. Enjoy the game tomorrow. Hopefully it will be as good as the last two years here and the one at UIUC earlier this year.
-
I swear when I was home for SoxFest the Chicago radio was talking about the Bears getting rid of Holdman if they could. I'm not up in town too often, did anyone else here this? If there was any validity to it, I say go for it.
-
Illinois will only have whatever seats the University got from Purdue and if friends here bought their friends at U of I seats. This game sold out pretty early and has a special 'Blackout' theme to it. Purdue kept the seats for people buying them here. Also, the Krush has been divided the last 2 years into 3 separate sections each far away from each other and at the top of the stadium.
-
Yup I'll be there, and I'm sure you won't be the only orange crush there... just don't forget about last year, U of I came in favored and Purdue handled the game through out. I'm looking forward to a great game.
-
Izzo said he had learned his lesson in 98 when they had the banner ready and Purdue came in and beat them ...guess he didn't
-
Awesome!!!

Chicago is one of the few places that could have the money to get Kobe. The Bulls would be perfect for him too. He'd get to play in a big market, on a team where he is the leader. Hell, he'd be the biggest star in the entire Eastern Conference. If the Bulls don't make a run at him this off season, I think I'd lose what little faith I have left in the team. The excitement around the team would do a complete 180 by bringing him in.
-
Don't know if it's been talked about on here but Ivan Kartelo got arrested for PI and Battery early Sunday morning. So he'll probably be out against Whisky on Sunday, if not longer. The good wins vs. bad losses pretty much equal out, which leaves you with a team that when healthy can beat anyone or can score 39 against NW at home. You never know which team you're going to see, which makes it interesting for the selection committee. BTW... The RPI isn't up to 90... yet.

i'm interested if there's still any space available

White Sox mission: Combat the Cub factor
Purdue129 replied to Mr. Showtime's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm just glad I'm away from the tv and newspaper coverage of the Bartman ball this week. I'm sure the destruction of that ball will be the lead story all week. Stupid Cubs fans. :fthecubs -
I just hope whoever takes the 5th spot can play well enough to keep the job the whole year... that might be wishful thinking though
-
I also love how Cubs fans quickly forget how much they hated mangement and Maddux for leaving for money after the '92 season.
-
Purdue will need to win out at home and take one @ MSU or @ Whisky or they won't make it... in my opinion. Home losses to OSU and NW are unacceptable, especially from a team that has shown it can play well against top teams. Their RPI sucks, but they're 5-1 against RPI Top 50, which may be the only thing that puts them in.
