Soxtalk and YASNY featured in Sports Illustrated
greasywheels121 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in 2006 Season in Review
QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 05:33 PM) It's spring J... when have you known a spring to go by without some rampant rumors...? And with RC not starting the season.. watch if (when) he come back in July and is doing well. Holy hell will break loose on the subject. It's sad. I read that last line over and over, and had to ask Heads who it was. Because RC is officially forever engrained in my head as Rally Crede. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 04:43 PM) It came off odd since the writer says we shouldn't care about the legal issues, but thats insane to get this type of PR. Holy cripes. Did this issue come out today? Yep, news stands today. I'll get it in the mail tomorrow. -

I've got to be honest; this is way too busy for me to ever use. Maybe someone else likes it though.

Alford to interview with Missouri

QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 02:07 AM) Majerus would be cool. He did well at Ball State and Utah. I like the guy a lot, and I'd love to see him make Robert Vahhden play ohhfense down in the pohhst. However, he's too much of a health risk. He really hasn't done much to improve that since he left Utah, and Indiana's looking for a coach that can stay long-term.

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 02:22 AM) My guys tell me Gillespie is the man, he is awesome. Montgomery's my favorite still, but that doesn't seem likely. I'd be very happy with Billy Gillispie though. He'd be great for all the same reasons I mentioned Rick Barnes could/should be a candidate in the first pages of this thread.

Alford to interview with Missouri
greasywheels121 replied to thedoctor's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Ha yeah. I would've reluctantly accepted the guy, and I thought he was doing everything he had to this year to make himself the candidate for the job. But IMO, he dug his own grave on any momentum he did have with that loss. Yes, that was a lucky shot, but it should've never come to that. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 01:48 PM) I hope to hell Alford doesn't start interviewing while the season is going on. If he does I'll be totally pissed off. His job is to be loyal to the Hawkeyes and get this team to finish strong. I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt. Afterall, Iowa has given him the benefit of the doubt during his tenure here and gave him a nice extension a few years back (didn't he pretty much turn down the IU job a while back???). I'm one of the few that thinks Alford has figured things out and I want him sticking around Iowa City. -

I liked this more than I thought. However, if you're going to play it out of the country, keep it on this side of the hemisphere. You're not going to get much as far as TV ratings go, if the games are on in the middle of the morning or on tape delay.

FWIW, in an interview this weekend, he said he'll be wearing #8 this year.

IaSt. Hires Greg McDermott from Northern Iowa
greasywheels121 replied to thedoctor's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
You've seen the IU thread, McDermott wasn't mentioned once in 18 pages. And as I said last night, Doyel knows very little of what he speaks. -

Heads won't be happy, but it's a good hire. -
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 11:23 AM) The Big Ten should definitely be down a bit next year. OSU will have a ton of talent, and Wisconsin should be decent with everyone coming back (well, besides Nixon). Also, in a weaker year than normal, I think Michigan could do fairly well. They'll still have a lot of talent, but of course I said that this year too, when injuries and poor defense came back to bite them. The rest of the teams have a ton of question marks. You may laugh, but Penn State has the chance to fair well next year also. And if Vaden and DJ stay, (I'm pretty confident at the least DJ is, Vaden's still undecided), IU has a great chance to compete next year. We could have a starting lineup of Calloway, Wilmont/Ratliff, Vaden, Allen, and DJ.

QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 11:11 PM) *sniff* I'm no one Minnesota was good enough, just had a really rough start to their Big 10 schedule. And then you beat IU and the Mike Davis downfall of 05-06 began.
