QUOTE(itsnotrequired @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 08:43 PM) Hi everyone, WSI member here. I've started a "seating chart" thread over at WSI and would love to add any Soxtalk members that plan on attending the CotC event. Feel free to post your seat location(s) in this thread, send me a PM, register at WSI and post there, etc. It would be great to know who everyone is (I've posted the same thing over at South Siders). This event should be a blast. http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbullet...ead.php?t=67674 Welcome, and thanks for doing that!

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 07:42 PM) Nonetheless, it seems like at least one IU player wouldn't mind having him aboard...This same guy also thinks Alford could recruit the state: http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti...S0601/603200370 I hate that article; Alford's name is only in the headline because it sells papers. Ratliff dropped the names of the other top candidates, and said nothing negative about them either. I think there's only great detail about what he thinks about Alford, again because it's what sells the paper/article. With that being said, I'm glad Ratliff's sticking around and I feel he can bounce back from the thumb injury on his shooting hand. However, the coaching hire should not cater to who the current players want. This should be a long-term decision, and players will only play for the coach a max of 4 years. Just get the best candidate, and my favorite candidate at the moment as I've said to a few people, is Mike Montgomery.
-
I'd likw that over some of the other names. I still think a lot of things are better than Alford. However, take Doyel with a clump of salt. He doesn't know much of what he talks about.

This thing's longer than a Spring Training game thread. I wonder why this was split...

It's a seperate topic now because you obviously sparked a conversation that was too big for the Catch-All thread. That's for tidbits, not multiple page threads.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 12:55 PM) Drinking is more dangerous than pot IMO. Whats great about it? If they arent doing it for the high, they are doing it to be cool or fit in. If you dont drink at a certain age, you will be socially outcast in some circles. As far as smoking pot goes, it could be the same thing. Just not wanting to be "left out" or nerdy. Some kids do it because it just flat out feels good. There are more 25-45 year old pot smokers than many people realize. At any time in the corp workplace Im guessing a large percentage still dabble in smoking pot. Of course it is illegal, but with the 0 pot related deaths last year, who are they hurting anyway? Well thats my 2 cents. You obviously haven't seen the stoners that went to the fast food joint and ran over the girl on her tricycle.

Reds acquire Bronson Arroyo for Wily Mo Pena
greasywheels121 replied to SSH2005's topic in The Diamond Club
Not horrible for the Reds either; they definitely needed SP. I'm not sure what the BoSox are going to do with more holes in their rotation, but at least the Reds are trying to plug their's. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 11:33 AM) You are kidding right? Do you really think the White Sox would have a near $100 million payroll without the attendance bump they are looking at for 2006? If you had it your way, we would still be looking at a $75 million payroll and wondering how Ross Gload could replace Paul Konerko, and musing about how we could have had Jim Thome if the Sox were willing to pay him. I love seeing the full park, because it means that Kenny Williams has a much bigger checkbook to work with, vs being so self-absorbed as to care about my inconvience at the ballpark. Sorry winning is just way more important than long lines at the bathrooms for me. I love how he starts the post off saying it's a Cubs town, end of story. And then he lists off a billion reasons that it's changing and moving towards the Sox.

Rush returning to Kansas for Soph Year

QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 19, 2006 -> 11:15 PM) This sort of reminds me of Vince Young, who said constantly that he was going to be coming back to Texas for his senior year. When it was all over however, he ended up declaring for the draft. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, Rush isn't in to be a top 5 pick, so he won't have nearly as much pressure to enter the draft as Young had, but he should still have a fair amount. Vince Young also did all he could in college football and won the National Championship. Rush obviously hasn't proved himself at the big stage of his sport by any means. -
They definitely disappointed this year. However, it's got to be said, to put this all in perspective. All the "experts" kept asking what's wrong with the Big Ten last year, and complaining how it was down. And that resulted in 2 Final Four teams. I guess the moral of the story is to not believe computers or "experts".

QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 19, 2006 -> 06:51 PM) Man, I was going to make a sig similar to what yours is right now, but not Indiana Way to read my mind and do it first Ha make it; I don't care if you have the same style. Plus, it won't be as sweet as mine. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 19, 2006 -> 06:49 PM) My Minneapolis bracket is still perfect except that damned Montana/Nevada game. G-Town winning is nice though, Ohio State has been out of gas for a few weeks now and it really showed up today. ^^^ -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 19, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) Great post, Rex. I know it's tough that IU lost, but congrats on the stance you took on Gonzaga pre-tourney -- I thought IU would have their way with the Zags, and quite the opposite was true. I didn't see the game, but it's more impressive that Morrison, at one point, was like 3-of-15 from the field. This thread, IMO, comes off as very whiney. But, if I was in the same position (ie Marquette getting the short stick with calls), I could see myself doing the same. Just, not as far as to say these games are being 'fixed'. Sheesh -- take a step back there... That's all I was arguing, that we got the short end of the stick with the calls, nothing more. -

NCAA Refs/Gambling/Fixes
greasywheels121 replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
What are refs going to do when Duke and Duke West meet in the Final Four? Are they going to call a foul every possible second, because that's what that team is used to getting called on their opponent. Or will they swallow their whistles? -
Yesterday was actually good to me with my bracket. It just wasn't fun to watch as a fan.

greasywheels121 replied to greasywheels121's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Yeah, you're right Spiff. I've been using the refs as an excuse all year. Mike Davis is also a great coach, and I hope we resign him to a 20 year contract, because he never got a fair crack at the job. ------- IU does shoot a lot of three's, but never that many. That's not the style of ball IU's been using to play this solid stretch of basketball from mid-February to now. We've been going inside, with the guards and Killingsworth. Do you honestly think they would just randomly go to something that doesn't work on their own will? They didn't reall have a choice. They didn't get any calls when they did go inside, just ridiculous and invisible over-the-backs and elbows called against us. I just could not understand what was being called on the offensive side, and there were so many invisible fouls away from the basket for breathing on them the wrong way. There's no stopping that. -

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 19, 2006 -> 12:33 AM) As for the other games, I generally agree that Gonzaga and Duke get a lot of favorable calls, but at least in this game Mallon was a big factor inside. It's also hard to argue for Indiana when they jacked up 36 3's, which was over half their shots. The refs put us into that though; I understand you won't get calls without going inside. Indiana does shoot a lot of three's, but by no stretch did we want to shoot 30+. We've been using the inside a lot more in the recent stretch of good play in the last month. We didn't get any calls when we did go inside, just ridiculous and invisible over-the-backs and elbows called against us. I just could not understand what was being called on the offensive side, and there were so many invisible fouls away from the basket for breathing on them the wrong way. There's no stopping that. -
