http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti...S0601/602120479 As I said earlier, I'm glad the 'black-out' didn't happen. I wasn't going to participate, or plan to in any other kind of protests/what have you. But I find it retarded for people to complain of the 'black-out' being racist. I think it was more of wearing Iowa's colors for the day. And if the 'black-out' is deemed racist, what about the two 'white-outs' we did against Duke and UConn? What do those mean? -

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 12, 2006 -> 10:18 AM) Unfortunately he is in a job where results are the be-all end-all. I feel bad for him to an extent, but hasnt he had some problems with recruits de-committing and players transferring, not to mention an up and down record? A little bit, but a lot of that plays into the position Davis has been in. He's gotten a lot of flack for not getting the Indiana players to stay in Indiana, but he hasn't had much trouble getting big time players from out of state to leave their state to come here. Players are hesitant to come here for Davis right now, because they don't know if he'll be here. For example, Darrel Arthur would improve next year's class a ton. If it was certain Davis would be here, DA would be here. However, that's not the case, and Jimbo will rock chalk about that. -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 12, 2006 -> 09:59 AM) I really feel sorry for Mike Davis. There is no question he is a good man and he really makes a connection with his players. I just think he was thrust into a situation he was not ready for. I would imagine the past few years have been hell on him. IU fans right now are worse than they have ever been and it is getting quite personal. I can't see any way he survives this season and remains at IU. But I wish the guy well. I do hope he gets another job somewhere else at some point and has success. Davis: "I didn't quit" Yeah, I feel bad for the guy. He was just never in a position to succeed, following Knight. I was in his corner up from the beginning until about two weeks ago. With the way things are anymore, it's almost impossible to defend him anymore. And as you said, I hope he has no problem finding a job elsewhere and having success at it. He deserves it. -
QUOTE(Drew @ Feb 12, 2006 -> 04:02 AM) The Oakland A's had a really good campaign that was recognized in Communication Arts, which is one of the holy books of the advertising creative community a few years ago, simple yellow boards that said clever things like "Rest Area: November 2004" and an ad appearing on the BART that said "A's fans: please be courteous by not eating or drinking on the train. Non-A's fans: Please be courteous and move to Saskatchewan." A Google revealed others recognized by smaller awards. I'm not sure if it's simply because there is so much sports advertising that's unimaginative if it doesn't just plain suck, or if Goodby-Silverstein (IIRC) was the agency that did it. The Giants' campaign last year was brilliant, done by Kirshenbaum/Bond. So popular that locals were stealing these ads from bus shelters and BART stops. One from the set: Are they implying something, since the bat looks so small in Barry's hand?

This debate will definitely pick up more once the work week starts. I voted for Lincoln. Who knows if this would all be the same country, if things didn't work out the way they did in the Civil War.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 10:17 PM) Trust me, Davis isn't the type of person to go out and fake being sick to not be at a game. If he resigned tomorrow that would be another story/ I don't think thats the case and I think he'll be there the rest of the year (unless you see the team totally play without any effort the next couple games). But he's definately a lame-duck coach cause he's gone (unless they somehow shock everyone and make a HUGE tourney run). First they got to get back on track and pick up a few more wins to ensure they make the tourney. Yeah. As I've said earlier, Davis is a great guy. He's just not a motivator. I just got to stop following the message board stuff. I was telling my roomy about all the rumors circulating, and they were all news to him. -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 10:04 PM) It's not just at IU. I'm sure Purdue fans aren't too damned happy with what is going on there. Rule basketball in Indiana and you rule the state. Painter's going to get that program turned around eventually. And my roommate/manager said Davis was actually really sick. He went out to his house, and he said he looked white. I have no idea what to believe anymore. -

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 08:47 PM) I don't see it changing much. However, apparently Andy Katz was on ESPN a few minutes ago. He said he talked to Davis, and there's no way he's resigning. We'll see. I still find it impossible for him to be able to show his face in Assembly Hall after being sick or "sick" when all these rumors are flying. It's funny reading the open forum on Peegs right now. A lot of those people are 10x worse with how they view Davis, compared to how WSI views the Cubs. Article on such: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/stor...andy&id=2327443 QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 09:26 PM) So much for that gut feeling. Booyah. --------------- Morrison hits a 3 at the end of the first half, and Gonzaga is down 43-48 to Stanford. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 08:26 PM) Come conference play people have figured him out. He needs to improve his passing and imo, take it up stronger when he shoots. He did do nice against Iowa, but at the same time most of the game the Hawks had him totally contained. Plus Hansen was in foul trouble for part of the game and we all have seen how Hansen can control Killingsworth. Why don't they use Vaden much? The only times I've seen IU play he seems to always light things up but they don't seem to draw many shots up for him. He's a big guy who is strong enough for post moves and can shoot the hell out of the ball from beyond the arc. I really like that guy (even got his name right this time). Rex can attest to this. Vaden's really hasn't looked good at all this year. He's really become the new Bracey, except he doesn't take 50 shots a game. He doesn't really go into the paint with that much success. He's either completely on or completely off. That's why I was surprised you thought he had a good game today, I wasn't all that pleased with his performance. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 08:23 PM) If Majerus goes anywhere...I-O-W-A. But Rick isn't going back to coaching unless he sheds some pounds and quick. I love when Majerus does Hawkeye games cause he always says nice things about the team. That said Alford is finally doing what I thought he was capable of. Will it be an abberration or has he simply learned a lesson about quality individuals and how much they can help a program. I think the whole Pierce debacle taught him something. Its too bad Recker got banged up a few years back cause that squad with Evans, Dean Oliver, and Recker was seriously one of the best Hawkeye teams I ever saw and was capable of a lot. Just curious....being in California, how'd you end up an Iowa fan? Did you have family go there or something? -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 08:11 PM) How was Killingsworth unknown? The guy was the leading scorer on Auburn before transferring and was one of the better players in the conference. Well no one had an answer for him at the beginning of the season. People certainly didn't have an answer for him. -

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 07:41 PM) Let's see... IU = in a state where basketball is King. It's ridiculous. I was at the library studying for a test a little bit before and after the game, and it's absolutely the only thing I heard being talked about. Jay Wright sounds like he would be a good candidate. This is just me putting this out here, but do you think Mark Few would be considered? He's not going to get any farther at a place like Gonzaga. Apparently, Andy Katz was saying this morning that, if the job were to become vacant Tom Crean (Marquette) and John Beilein (Pittsnoggle U) are at the top of the list. And I guess Majerus apparently said this would be his "dream job" during the game? -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 05:40 PM) I really don't think DJ White will transfer. When faced with the reality of sitting out almost two full seasons, and talking to a new coach, I think he will find his best course of action is to stay. Even if he just does it to get his game to a level to jump to the NBA after one season. Sitting out another season doesn't help him. Aboz, give me som background on Jay Wright. I don't know much about him. And DJ will be the real tell tale about the rest of the team. I think his decision will ultimately determine how many stay or don't. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 04:37 PM) I thought for a while it was parity in the Big 10, but I'm beginning to think more and more it's mediocrity and the lack of a really good team. Fun stuff though, and there are a bunch of NCAA Tourney calibur teams, just not much more than that. It's interesting though. Last year, everyone's saying how the Big Ten's down, and there's 2 final four teams. This year, everyone's saying the Big Ten is one of the elite conferences, and we're not expecting many teams in our conference to go deep. Weird. -

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 04:15 PM) I knew about the blackout from the discussion earlier and I watched a few minutes of the game to watch for it. I thought I saw a rather large amount of black shirts in the crowd to tell you the truth. Behind the Iowa bench, maybe? Believe me, I had a great view today, and it looked like any other game. -

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 03:34 PM) Greasy, what's wrong with Indiana? They're very dissapointing right now. Not that it hurts me that much as an Illini fan. DJ got hurt. Killingsworth was basically unknown at the beginning of the season, and no one knew what to do with him. Once they thought they had started to figure him out, DJ comes back. Killingsworth and DJ would always demand 3 guys on them, and this would open up easy outside shots. And then DJ went down for the second time. Killingsworth is no longer an unknown. For the most part, you can guarantee yourself victory, if you stop Killingsworth on offense, or get him into foul trouble. -

This just doesn't seem real anymore. This is analogous to the White Sox' season, except we DID collapse. What a messy situation. I can't imagine seeing Davis showing his face again in Assembly Hall, after today. Flu or no flu, what timing. I guess the coaching change will have to happen before the conclusion of the season. I feel bad for Davis. He's a great guy, but he was never going to win in this situation. No one was going to be able to succeed Knight and do well. It's best for the two to seperate. He'll definitely be able to catch on with an NBA team or a smaller school. The game was just unreal. So many missed opportunities; Iowa let us have a shot, and we didn't do it. I feel like my heart's still racing from the ending. And I'm glad the 'black-out' was all hype. I didn't see any of it. -

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 01:37 PM) Best name I've heard. Jay Wright. Hopefully for IU fans, that will happen after this year. I'm sure they'll name an interim coach and then clean house after the year. Worst thing for them will be DJ White transferring, Vaden possibly as well. But it won't take long to turn things around there, even if those guys do leave. If they clean house altogether (Rupp/Marsh), Ben Allen would leave too. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 10:29 PM) Nah, but that rumor is hot over there. I know the Indiana students have a protest planned for the next home game (which is tomorrow?) People are doing a "black-out" in support of firing Mike Davis. I find it to be lame. I don't know how big it'll end up being.
