The Official NIT Thread

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:52 AM) It's not that it is the NIT....... it is the fact that we lost to Vanderbilt at home. They didn't come to compete and that is sad. They still charged fans money for their tickets. Yeah, but did you see the gate? It was just over 5,000 last night. That's the lowest ever for a men's game. It was played in Indiana, but it's hard to call that much of a home game. The timing of spring break really hurt that. I didn't have much desire to drive 3 hours to see them last night. However, if I was in Bloomington at the time, I still would have gone. -

I personally have a hard time about getting mad over tonight. It's the NIT. I can't get excited over that at all. Even if we won the thing, I don't know how happy that would make me. -
Should/Will Mike Davis be back?
greasywheels121 replied to IlliniKrush's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 08:42 PM) I just feel that that team was stacked with veteran leadership that knew how to win. Davis was probly part of it, just not as much as i'd like to think he was. He's not always responsible for them losing either (I think bracey is a huge factor in that). I just think that if IU fans (and i'm not blaming anyone of this, but i've heard it plenty) defend Davis through everything with "he took us to a final four," i don't know if that's a real good basis for keeping him More s***'s going to be heard now that we lost our NIT game tonight in Bloomington. I personally don't care about that. Teams like Maryland, ND, and IU are going to have some trouble getting up for these games. So whatever to that. However, you've seen me on here as a big Davis backer the whole time. I don't think that's the only thing I've ever used to defend him. -

I honestly think he's just getting started. I'm excited for next year. I just hope that the outcome of the season is satisfactory enough that a lot of the doubters will stop talking and we can finally erase that 5-year interim label. I like where this team is headed right now. With the exception of the Minnesota game in the BTT, this team has started to go in the right direction. If we build on that, and we should, Indiana will be back on the map. We're going to have a lot of scholarships for the 06-07 season. I just think we're starting to get back on the right track, and we'll stay there. -
I'm O Positive. I've given 3 times, the last being in the fall. I've gotten a new card everytime, because I've always given at a different place and never have my card.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 12:08 PM) Greasy are you trying to tell me Mike Davis was responsible for that team getting to the final four? I'd say it was a team thing. That group of players and the coach. I just hate how if this team is ever winning, it's because of the players, Davis had no part in it. If we're losing, it's not the players fault, but that Davis is a horrible coach. I'm just tired of all this conversation. Davis shouldn't and won't be fired. -
QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) Intersting the people here who called Maggs a selfish, greedy, MF for becoming a free agent and NOT showing any LOYALTY. Suddenly don't have a problem with dumping Frank if it means helping the team. LOL. You guys kill me. I may have shared some of those sentiments with Maggs, but I don't think it'll ever be that way with Frank. Frank is the White Sox IMO for what he's done here. While Maggs had good numbers while he was in Chicago, I just never saw him meaning to this franchise, what Frank has.

Very awesome Jim. Thanks a lot for the tidbits; they're definitely great to hear!

Hard to answer. I love everything about that city whenever I get to make it up there.

I'm sorry, but is Mike Davis only responsible for coaching this team when it loses? -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 09:03 AM) I am really curious why you think Frank is more useful as a player? He cannot play the field anymore, and he hasn't been able to stay healthy either. Also why would you discount how Konerko plays at home, when Frank has a huge disparity home vs road too? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/splits?statsId=4527 Franks hit 14 HRs at home and only 4 on the road, with his slugging and OPS dropping 200 points when he hit the road. You can't discount ones stats, and ignore the other guy. Konerko's best year still didn't match Frank's worst year in a lot of areas. Also to think Frank had his best years here when Comiskey was still a pitcher's park.

QUOTE(sec159row2 @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 11:19 PM) I wasn't comparing him to knight at all... i wasn't using "that argument" Davis may be an awesome recuiter still doesn't matter... he's not a good coach... you don't let kids play ya coach em!!! The talent wasn't there the last year. However, Davis won 20 in his first three seasons at Indiana. No other coach at Indiana has done that. I don't know how you do that, and take a team to the tourney when you don't know how to coach. -
Frank must testify at Thursday's hearings

I haven't read the other Thomas threads, but I was watching Sportscenter at 6, and they said Frank could just do his part via a satellite due to his ankle. -
Sox vs. "Insert Location"Angels "Location?"
greasywheels121 replied to Mr. Showtime's topic in 2005 Season in Review
I hope Stone is on with ESPN or something. I watched the game a majority of the time on ESPN rather than CSN. The game was solid today. Today was the first I got to see BMac, and he flat out impressed. I'm excited for when he gets his chance in the bigs. ESPN really gave the Sox and BMac a lot of love today. Kind of nice for a change. -

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 08:41 PM) Someone took them to the NCAA title game in 2002 and it wasn't Bobby Knight my friend. Exactly, and before somebody says anything, Davis recruited that group of "Knight's players." And people want to use that argument, a lot of Knight's early success at TT should go out the window. Since those weren't his players. Oh well. -
Hmm...Gotta go with Home Alone and Ferris.

QUOTE(backman @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) i heard something, did marrquette loose? Lost last night 54-40 at home to Western Michigan. Marquette went 1-4 in its last 5 games without Travis Deiner. -
I'm really glad Dye's here. He's always been one of those guys in baseball I liked; kind of nice having him in Chicago now. He could be the poor man's Robin.

The only one that I really see as a concern is health. Our pitchers will be fine, if healthy. Yes, we gave up some bop, but it's going to be impossible for this team to still not have power. The only thing that scares me about that is that we don't have as much as before. Therefore, if health is a problem with say a Frank, Rowand, or Konerko, it could hurt a bit. I just see everything going back to health.

This bracket's such a mess compared to the NCAA, because I can't tell what date the future games are to be on. I guess I just have to play eenie miny mo. However, if we're still playing, and if our next 2 games are after Sunday, I think I'll be there. -

Better not change anything. As Alex said, DJ, Vaden, and Killingsworth wouldn't be playing here next year. It'd probably be the same with Bracey, but he's back in my dog house. I think Bracey's going to be back, because he's certainly not going to the NBA. His only choice for playing pro will be overseas. He's just so damn consistent. It's just a small thing too, but I thought it was cool how the whole team shaved their head for the BTT game. Ewing didn't, but he at least did something to change it up. Bracey was the only one to not really do anything along those lines. It's a small thing, but it just kind of shows that he's not all team. Who knows. We can survive without Bracey. Strick and Vaden can pick up his points up top. However, we can be fine with Bracey next year. Bracey will look very good next year, because he won't be THE guy next year. I'm ready for Thanksgiving '05.
