QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 11:33 PM) Actually they did, they handed back Southern Lebanon to Lebanese control in 2000, and they pulled their forces out of Gaza, along with many of their settlements, last year. God Bless Israel for handing back land that they illegally took. Why i appreciate it every time that a burgler returns items that he has stolen. They deserve great praise. The only reason that Israel gave back gaza was that they had to have 50,000 troops defending 8,000 settlers. The same time that they hand back gaza they increased settlement building in the West Bank. Whic was once again against intenational law. So yes we should totally praise Israel for violating international law and UN security council resolutions. OH Wait... Israel has violated more resolutions than Iraq, I wonder why we havent invaded them?

Maybe i was daydreaming through two years of Middle East politics classes, but when did Israel hand over any land?

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) Holy crap! Man, I can't imagine what tuition will be like when my kids go off to college. I might have to send them to community college for two years in order for it to be affordable! Just send them to a public school. It only costs around 4,500 to go to school at Illinois State. And we are as good if not better in most fields than private schools.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 10:27 AM) IIRC, the British controlled that land (and also Jordan) via a mandate from the League of Nations after WWI. While it was sort of a no-man's land that was populated mostly by Arabs, there had been no sovereign Arab government control over it when the U.N. gave part of it to the Jews. A Brief History of the Creation of Israel. So WWI hits and the British need a way to eliminate the Ottoman empire whihc at the time had become very fractured. Britian did not have that many troops so it made the Hussein Mcmahon deal in 1915. This deal promissed to Shairf Hussein that he would be given controll of the arab world if he would lead an overthrow of the ottoman empire. HE did and at the conclusion of the war the British said ehh, too bad. Then we have the Sykes Picot agreement. this is where the british anf french carve up the middle east with the british and french both controlling palestine. In 1917 Lord Balfour declares that there shall be a Jewish Homeland. Many see this as a way for the british to increase loans from banks due to war debt. Next comes the Uganda Kenya Offer. The british offer a large sum of land in Africa to the world Zionist organization. Theodore Herzl grateully accepts, but the World Zionist organization does not, and the conflict in palestine grows. So Woodrow willson knows that the Mandate system will nto wor so he sends the King Crane Commision. The commision interviewed many people in Palestine and what they learned was that the people feared zionism and would accept a US mandate, but for obvious reasons did not trust the Europeans at all. Jewish immigration increases, and in 1936 the Arabs began a revolt. The revolt was a non violent boycott against anything jewish or european it lasted for 3 years until the British issued the White paper. the paper declared that jewish immigration would be limited and that the palestinians would have a state in less than 10 years. On comes world war two and UNSCOP. Skipping many things like the Patria disaster and Qassam. The Partition plan was passed by the UN in 1947, then we have Deir Yassin, and independence on may 14th of 1948. So What is the Morale of the story. When countries try to decide the fate of other countries, things tend to get f***ed up. -
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 04:49 PM) That's certainly the most bloodless solution but it is the least permanent and probably the least effective. What you're laying out here, basically, is no different than what has been happening ever since Isreal was created. This is basically the cycle that has been repeating itself since Isreal was created. -Period of war. -Incomplete resolution to the conflict. -Buildup of the same old tensions ( this involves both sides taking potshots at each other ) -Event that acts as a spark -Period of war. Now that Iraq is out of the terrorism sponsoring game it's the twin ugly heads of Iran and Syria that are behind everything IMO. The level of patent hypocrisy displayed by those 2 is just mind blowing. They claim that the Isreal/Palestine situation is the whole driving factor behind tension in the region, yet they do everything in their power to derail the peace process even though it would mean the creation of a Palestinian state. Fact is that Iran and Syria do not want peace. Well they do but it involves wiping Isreal off the map in a new holocaust and replacing it with a like minded Islamo-fascist state first. Throw Iranian nukes into the mix and this has the potential to really come to a really ugly head here soon. Personally I think war with Iran and Syria is inevitable. If thats true then the question now becomes what is the cost of going to war now as opposed to going to war later. Just to clairify do you mean the United states going to war with those two countries or Israel?

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 12:19 PM) Saw this one coming from 10 miles away. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,203814,00.html Isreal hits Iran in 5.............4............3.............2............1............... I read the articel and i don't see how this is proof that the iranians helped fire the missle. The article just said that 100 revolutionary guard helped fire the missle. I didn't see any proof of that claim.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) In case you didn't notice, its their stated goal to wipe Isreal off the map. Kidnapping is small potatoes in comparison. It is the stated goal of the Hamas Party, not the people of Palestine. Why then do we blame ALL Palestinians for this belief. A majority of palestinains do not support Hamas's goal of wiping out israel. A Majority of people just want to return to a life without a constant struggle. The reason hamas is in power is because the patah party is so unbelievably corrupt. Hamas is not only a terrorist organization, it also provides many of the social services that palestinians enjoy today. Estimates are that around 90% of Hamas's budget goes towards constuction of new schools and hospitals. "I vow that if I was just an Israeli civilian and I met a Palestinian I would burn him and I would make him suffer before killing him. With one hit I've killed 750 Palestinians (in Rafah in 1956). I wanted to encourage my soldiers by raping Arabic girls as the Palestinian women is a slave for Jews, and we do whatever we want to her and nobody tells us what we shall do, but we tell others what they shall do." -----Arial Sharon

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) Why can't the Palis give up the soldier and just call it a day? /sits and waits for the Isreal is scumsucking power tripping assholes answer... after all the Palis are sooooooooooooooooooooo innocent. So we are going to blame an entire population for the actions of a few. It is not as if the ruling party of Hamas has declared that they comitted that kidnapping and that in some sort of outlandish resolution the entire population stated that they supported the kidnapping. It would be similar to me blaming all americans and myself for the rape and murder of that iraqi women by US soldiers. Please dont blam the whole for the actions of the few

QUOTE(KWs OK for Me @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 11:12 PM) My brother was the same way about the LSAT, and his score kept him from getting it NU and UC Law which kinda is too bad considering he had fricken great GPA from UC. To get into wither of those schools you have to be redickulassly smart and have worked for a few years. The average age of their entering class is like 26

QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 08:13 PM) I'd probably have to say Scalia because of his strict, narrow adherence to the Constitution rather than a broad interpretation. Unfortunately, he's also an arrogant and polarizing figure. I'm hoping that Roberts and Alito will follow Scalia and Rhenquist's narrow interpretation of the Constitution. This will make the line item veto case very interesting if it ever gets approved and then sent to the SCOTUS -
quick reply as i have to go to work. I am VERY disappointed in this decision. I went to school with these assholes and everyone knows that they are guilty. i'll elaborate more on what exactly happened later, but i have to go to work

It is not probably from teachers. History tells us that liberals are younger and conservatives are older. Liberals want change Conservatives want things to stay the same Hence, younger vs. older

Tyson Chandler Re-signs
Pale Hose Jon replied to nitetrain8601's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I guess i am just confused at why someone who has average numbers deserves to get such a huge contract. I like Tyson, but at over ten milllion a year this is not a "great contract." He scores 8 points a game, and has absolutley no outside shot. A six footer is no guarantee with him, and how many of his RPG are off his own missed shots. Tyson at 8 mil a year seems fair. Remember Shareef Abdur-Rahim, signed for the MLE -

Pale Hose Jon replied to nitetrain8601's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Over 10 million a year, that's rediculas, you might as well keep that money and sign several guys. By the end of this deal, he better be worth that money. -
So far here in bloomington normal, gas has risen 50 cents a gallon. and there was even one station that was charging 3.50 a gallon. The lines at the stations that had not yet risen the price were long. Gas at 3 dollars a gallon was inevitable, but i wish it weren't paired with the destruction that the hurrican is bringing.
