Who will win the battle for the 5th spot?
fattyguy78 replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm taking the underdog and gonna go with Campos...who knows...hopefully he'll surprise us...hopefully they all surprise us -
I'd still like to Francisco Campos get a chance...we just picked him up in the Rule 5 draft along with Grilli and he is tearing up the Mexican league...but I think he is destined for the minors...
-
I'm gonna go with the Rule 5 picks....Grilli and Campos....Grilli is supposed to be good and may put up good numbers and Campos was lights out in the Mexican league..10-2 with like 2.1 era..i think they wil contend for the job as well

Sauerback is done for the season....this is from rotoworld.....Free agent Scott Sauerbeck reportedly will undergo shoulder surgery next week and miss the season. This could explain some of his problems from the second half of last season. Sauerbeck has failed physicals for both the Cubs and Reds this winter, forcing him to undergo surgery. I have reason to believe that we haven't signed
fattyguy78 replied to Bighurt52235's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The only thing i have heard has been from this board...but here is the link that was posted in a previous thread.. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/al...13-albeat_x.htm and they said jackson was signed on the same day as santiago...but like i said the only things i have heard have been from here -
"we dont need a backup 3rd basemen valentine even though i hate him with a pasion can play 3rd with someone filling in at SS or 2b depending on where he is playing next year. " It was reported in an earlier thread that KW was looking to add a backup 3rd baseman, I'm not makin the stuff up, I just thought he would have made an adequate backup.

Not sayin he's a freakin god send or could turn the organization around, I woulda just liked to have seen him back is all and he is cheap too.
-
sorry about the double post...damn computer froze on me

Tigers signed infielder Greg Norton to a minor league contract. This can't do wonders for Dean Palmer's confidence. Norton is very likely to make the team as a reserve, so Palmer probably won't be kept unless he has a great spring. Even then, he would likely just be viewed as trade bait. Scratch the idea of bringing him back....why couldn't KW have done this?? Aren't we looking for a backup 3rd baseman? I woulda liked to have seen him back. Maybe we can't afford minor league contracts anymore either...

From Rotoworld: Twins signed RHP Rick Helling to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training. Although Helling might still be useful as a middle reliever, he's no longer capable of helping a quality team as a starting pitcher. The Twins will give him a chance to win a rotation spot, but they need to keep looking for upgrades. Not a major signing or anything but its more than we have done lately....

Perhaps a new GM is the answer but, I do like KW in the trade aspect exception of course in the Ritchie deal, but he definately has much to learn about using the farm sytem and about signing players to reasonable contracts. I guess wouldn't be so impatient or a such a negative feeling if I could just see that stuff was being fixed...the White Sox have barely made a blip on the radar screen with the Uribe/Politte deals...everything else has just been failed attempts at trades....to me, its just the fact that actions speak louder than words, and so far this offseason there has been nothing but talk and that's it...but i still do have faith in KW's ability to pull off a decent trade.

"A higher payroll would be realistic if the revenues were there. I just don't buy the fact that JR should have to drastically increase payroll to cover for all the bad contracts the Sox have. It is not a perfect world and if mistakes are made, they can't always be corrected the easy way, by throwing money at them. " I do agree with you....but it's not like we traded for these bad contracts, with the exception of Schoenweis, but we didn't even have to pick up his option, these bad contracts are of our own doing and if he shouldn't be held accountable for them then who should? It's certainly not my fault or yours, or anyone else's on this board that they signed them to s***ty contracts...I agree with the revenue part as well but no one is gonna want to come see them if they don't put a quality product on the field...it's a catch 22 Reinsdorf won't spend until we win, and we won't win until he spends

I look at it like this...yes we are adding 7 million over last years salary but that is only enough to cover the raises and arbitration from last year i.e. Thomas 4 million-6million...Buerle 345,000-3.5 million...Loaiza 500,000-4million, not to mention Lee, Schoenweis, Garland and others that got raises...he is raising the salary, just not enough to get any real players, i mean, yes we have some money for losing bartolo/gordon, but it's not enough to do anything of substance. I think the point of this conversation was not to put Reinsdorf down and say that he is a cheap ass, it's just from my point of view, like it or not we need to have an average payroll, of at least 70 million to contend, if we had that payroll we would win the central every year...I think we all just want him to raise the payroll to a reasonable level, and don't give me the marlins/ angels bulls*** cause everyone knows that those a fluke things that only happen once every ten years or so...in the case 3 times....but even a blind squirrel can find a nut every once in a while...
-
Sullivan is no bum, he has been one of the better relievers in the majors the last few years, and he greatly improved our bullpen, I would've had no problem with him being back with the sox this year.
-
somewhere around 3 years/23 Million...
-
Being reported on ESPN news right now....missed the terms of the agreement
-
wouldn't mind that either...just as long as we turn Nomar over and get something else outta him
-
I wouldn't mind the Magglio trade personally if we can turn around and ship Nomar to LA..if that is still a possibility...i wouldn't complain at all if we turn Magglio into Williamson, Perez, Mota, Jackson/Miller, and a lower level prospect....things should be getting interesting though
-
They have just reported on ESPN Bottomline that Tom Hicks (Rangers owner) has set a Tuesday 5:00 et deadline for the deal to get done...things should be unfolding soon...finally this s*** comes to an end and at least we will know what we will have to work with...
-
Have u guys heard any word on what the White Sox plan to do with either Shoenwies/Kelly Wunsch...in regards ti tendering/non-tendering them tomorrow at the deadline????
-
Sorry if this was already posted, but i didn't see it anywhere, but rotoworld is reporting that the pitching prospect likely to be included in the Magglio to Boston trade would be Cotts
-
Bowden was reporting that the Orioles are VERY close to signing Ponson, take it for what you will though....also said that they might announce that they signed IROD and that they r going to continue talks with Vlad too....talk about spendin some money...just rumors for now though
-
Just caught this on rotoworld the the M's have just signed SS Carlos Guillen to a 1-year 2.5 million dollar contract, so I guess this means Jose to Seattle rumor is dead.
-
I completely agree with quickman....and just a thought, I mean if Ozzie hasn't even spoken with Frank or many of the other players on the team how could he possibly know where each of them is better suited in the lineup, I just think he should at least talk to them or even wait till ST before making these assumptions...
-
Rotoworld is reporting that Tejada has supposedly told his agent to get a deal done with Seattle....he picked them over Baltimore and Detroit, so it is unlikely that Valentin will go to the M's
