  1. thanx to balta for the article that backs up my point.
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 01:31 PM) This was what DeLuca wrote today in the Sun Times...if anything, this team needs a backup for Hermanson, not another starting pitcher. Even one of the other guys discussed here won't give us that. i agree a RP is more important than a SP.
  3. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 01:29 PM) Yes. But Crede is not going to be traded, and Lowell is a bat on the bench that can spell Kong and Crede. Not sure what you are talking about, because they arent trading JC or Crede according to the rumors. the latest rumors had contreras, marte, and mac in the deal for burnett and lowell. also, are you sure you want a player for insurance that costs 18 mil over the next 2 years? i don't know how a player making that much money will take being an insurance policy anyway.
  4. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 01:22 PM) Burnett+Lowell>Marte, those are your three actual MLB players in this trade that are contributing to their respective teams. Sorry what are you talking about? isn't crede's defense and clutch hitting contributing? didn't contreras win 3 of the last 4, including beating the bo sox?
  5. i agree with one of those guys on sports page last nite, kevin matthews. so far, the team hasn't messed up our chance at winning the whole thing. the thing is hopefully management doesn't mess it up. why do we want to trade possibly contreras, marte, and mac for burnett, a career .500 pitcher? there's no getting around it, and he has had injuries. on top of this, he wants 40 mil over 4 years. this smells a lot like the pavano situation. AND we're getting saddled w/ lowell's ridiculous contract. this does more harm than good. i dunno if crede gets traded too, but crede and contreras > burnett and lowell in the big picture.
  6. QUOTE(BamaDoc @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 12:42 PM) Is anyone else pissed off that some guys sound like they don't want to come to a first place team. Burnett, who no one would have traded just McCarthy for after spring training, seems determined to be a free agent. Thats his right and perogative but I don't do any of the proposed deals if he doesn't sign for numbers in line with our other starting pitchers. It would destroy our salary structure to give him 10 million a year. What do you tell Garcia and Buehrle or Garland? I would be more inclined to trade Marte + a lesser prospect for Guardado. i wholeheartedly agree. i have no idea why we want burnett, his possible long-term contract, and then lowell's. i think guardado is a better option.
  7. i dunno if burnett is worth mac and marte, just cause of his injuries and his .500 lifetime record. if you gotta trade contreras too, that's way too much to give up for an unknown.
  8. *he was saying that the sox are recruiting burnett by the compliments they are giving him and levine seemed to think the sox will get him eventually. *the interesting part is that he said the sox might again consider using contreras as the closer if they do get burnett. i dunno about that tho cause if he comes into a 1-run games, allows a double, he is so easy to steal off of. if that guy takes third base, and w/ contreras's high amount of wild pitches, i don't think it's a great idea. plus wouldn't it take him longer to warm up since he's used to starting? *silvy said he thinks a bigger need is a bullpen arm(which i agree with), esp. w/ hermanson's back issues and marte's inconsistency. levine countered by saying that every team has A and B relievers. because the sox are in so many tight games, ozzie has to use his A guys a lot. the way levine saw it was if you have 4 starters(the 4th being burnett) that can go 7 or 8, you reduce the number of relievers you use. cause since el duque and contreras usually go 6, you gotta use 3 or 4. i'd still say another bullpen arm, like a guardado, would be better, esp. considering burnett's injury past. *just another note, i was reading a recap of yesterday's marlins game and i found a quote from jack mckeon that caught my attention: http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/news_story.asp?ID=131351 i don't know if i'm making too much out of it, but what does mckeon mean by he didn't think anything was bothering burnett? *also another quote from felipe alou referring to burnett
  9. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:33 PM) So, does this make it more or less likely that Burnett will go to the Jays? It might make it more likely because the Blue Jays could figure they need to get another pitcher to make up for the loss of Lilly until both he and Halladay return. It might make it less likely because they could just decide to pack it in. Either way, this probably really affects our chances of landing Burnett. good point, i didn't even think about the injury in that light.
  10. QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 11:08 PM) how is this thread any different than the typical "konerko sucks for one day thread" trust me, he doesn't just suck for 1 day. it's been quite a while.
  11. QUOTE(Kogs35 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:32 PM) the whole nl west sucks that's my point. i don't think they're ready to give up.
  12. isn't sf right in the hunt in the nl west?
  13. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:17 PM) He still allowed the run to be knocked in. He's been shaky, not dominant like you'd expect from a closer. it was manny ramirez, future HOF, not some AAA callup. also, i do think it would be more important to get a guardado-type reliever instead of an elite starter. also, marte should not close till he can prove he can pitch well in the 8th.
  14. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:36 PM) i didn't see that much to complain about i agree, i'd say the normal amount of missed calls. and that guy @ 2B yesterday did a good job of seeing scotty overslide the bag, good job of staying with the play, even tho it wasn't good for the sox.
  15. the thing that concerns me most on this team is konerko. seems like most of the time he gets a hit is leading off an inning. he is so very slow and he hits #4, a spot for guys to drive in runs. the problem is he hits .245 w/ runners on, .225 w/ RISP, and .140 w/ RISP and 2 out. those are horrific numbers for a #4 hitter. to compare, uribe, usually hitting 8 or 9, is hitting AT LEAST 40 points higher in each of those categories than konerko, that's pretty telling, esp. since konerko is makin 8+ mil this year. if i'm kenny, priority #1 is getting guardado or another very good bullpen arm and priority #2 would be shopping konerko. i know it'd be hard but who knows maybe the nats would be interested w/ their offensive woes or maybe in a 3 way trade somehow. i dunno but konerko is leaving way too many runners in scoring position.
  16. yea i dunno what north was talking about, kept repeating stuff a lot, three things basically: 1.) why didn't you catch the fly ball? 2.) was it a tough loss considering its the red sox? 3.) why does ozzie rest his players? he repeated each of the 3 questions like 2 or 3 times each. aaron sounded like he was gettin tired of getting asked the same questions, and i don't blame him. rowand said that rest helps the guys out mentally and that the players don't and can't ride the roller coaster for 162 games cause it gets mentally draining, so they just move on, which is good to hear that they are not doing that. i have no idea why they have those co-hosts on the show w/ north if they don't get to ask any q's themselves to the guests. i guess that's how much north thinks of himself.
  17. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:59 PM) There has got to be something done during pregame warmups. Coop needs to get Garcia on a different routine, because everyone is getting sick of the same old 2 runs in the 1st inning almost every game. It has really become just a normal thing. It needs to be addressed, fast. i concur
  18. QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:00 PM) i dont know why he pitched that 9th innning because that was the 4th time the Tigers had seen him. I think maybe Cotts should have been in earlier, but its hard to say what would have happened. And it sounds bad to bash Ozzies decsions because of the outcome but, in my opinion i think Freddy was tired. Go Chi-Sox your right on target, i'll take it one step further: ozzie cost em the game today. freddy shoulda never been in there, esp. after the rain delay, in the 9th. politte shoulda started from the beginning. after the runs we scored in the 9th, we woulda won if those guys freddy let on base hadn't scored.
  19. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 08:33 PM) Let me be perfectly clear. You never metioned "lately". You were talking about Aaron's defense as a whole. If you meant, just this series, you were not clear. But your attack on SS2k5 was neither nice, appropiate nor smart. i attacked him? he's the one who called me drunk first. whatever. maybe i didn't mention it directly about "lately", but if you've been watching the games, you would've known what i meant. i'm sure ozzie or one of the coaches have talked to him and fixed that. just a couple of lapses. and it was not just this series, it was another non-tigers game in the past week too.
  20. QUOTE(forrestg @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 08:29 PM) Did you see how upset he was getting about his strike calls! yea, but i thought most were balls
  21. i saw the ozzie guillen press conference after the game on comcast, and they asked him if that bothered him. ozzie said he's not gonna babysit em, that he was talkin to the umpires bout when the game was gonna restart and checking up on freddy. it did seem like he was pissed bout it. i guess he didn't know till they asked him @ the press conference.
  22. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) I wholeheartedly agree. i also agree, i just wanted to point out some recent lapses, but he is still solid overall.
  23. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 08:19 PM) Take me on Smart guy... I'm a season ticket holder. I've seen almost all the home games...live. I sit right behind home plate in the first few rows in the upper deck. I see his defensive postioning before pitches and for every batter. I can see the WHOLE field and watch WHOLE plays develop. Something you CAN'T do watching TV. I've seen the way he backs up his teammates, takes great routes to the ball, makes the correct throw, hits the cutoff man...etc. He is a great defensive outfielder who makes great decisions. I COMPLETELY disagree with you on your "scouting report" and agree with SS2K5 that you must be drunk. Now...is there anything more you'd like to add. funny how you didn't say i was wrong. what was the point of that? i know he's good defensively, just pointing out that he's had a few lapses lately. obviously you are drunk or you and that other guy are buddies, cause what i commented on is EXACTLY what DJ commented on. i don't think he'd be allowed on-air drunk. dj can also see the whole field, whose word am i gonna take? dj, a former pro player, or you, someone who obviously overlooks mistakes by his players. easy choice.(and it's not you)
  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 08:03 PM) Bad decesion making? Are you drunk? i guess you really don't watch the games after all. like today, he threw towards third base when he had no business doing it and threw the ball away, costing freddy a run on the play when he shoulda thrown the ball to second to keep the dp in order. last week, he did a similar thing where he shoulda thrown the ball in to second and instead tried to throw em out @ third and also backfired. both times, he had little chance to get the lead guy and both times dj pointed it out. and in this same series vs. the tigers, he threw a horrible throw to the plate when he had NO CHANCE, and the guy who got the hit took second on the throw. he has to do the fundamental things right. AND PLEASE BEFORE MAKING ANYMORE STUPID COMMENTS, WATCH A GAME OR TWO.
